Boston calling is definitely in danger too i would say, if it weren’t for Metallica day selling out I think it would have shut down. Hopefully they get another slam dunk next year, would hate to have it narrowed down to firefly and gov ball.
Oh I moved to Denver a few years ago. I would drive to bonnaroo when I was in NY though
I mean I go to Bonnaroo also. I went to both Buku and Bonnaroo and if Voodoo hadn't called it quit I would have been there too. That is my point. I am used to going to at least two local fests, now what am I going to do? I guess ACL. I have a free place (or three) to crash and it is drivable. It just isn't the same though.
One of my photog friends said that Buku was in talks with Rehage about making something new when voodoo would *have been...idk how much stock I'd put into that bet.

Hate they’re scrapping it when they were growing it. But maybe it’s some corporate pullback or for whatever reason the future economics weren’t going to work. It’s not like people don’t go or aren’t willing to pay a somewhat higher price to attend. I’ve been to all but the first one in 2012. I’ve seen great new shit and legacy stuff as well. 2014 was my favorite lineup. I’m like you though in that sure I’ll go to jazz fest for a day or two, but that’s completely different. I count on seeing 40 or more sets between Voodoo and Buku every year. Plus Buku being March and because of what it is gives you an early glimpse of some of the people that will be on the circuit as well as a good revitalizing shot of rap and EDM.
Festival owl said that he heard Mardi Gras World was sold for development. They are doing shit that way on the river, but I couldn’t find where it sold. Also one of Buku’s OG founders Reeves Price got promoted to AEG VP for overseeing AEG/Goldenvoice festivals. That was announced yesterday, so who knows what to read into that as far as if it has anything to do with it.

Mardi Gras World has not been sold. They are open, running tours, building and housing floats. And if any got sold for development it would be the property in Algiers that they've been trying to get rid of for ages, which is still not all of Mardi Gras World. 🙄

Mardi Gras World is my favorite venue for a music festival. I think its a perfect fit for both the festival and the city (despite all the concrete). I hope it never gets touched.

I thought it was the area closer to the power plant which is why they didn't utilize that area at Buku this year.
If they do move it, can't wait to see how they mess it up. 80% chance they haphazardly cram it into Champions' Square & the tops of the Superdome parking garages.
