It genuinely is annoying that New Orleans is getting a pass on its state's horrendous quality of life.
Genuinely annoying?
The state's quality of life is not on the agenda. We enjoy a good quality of life here in the city. Yeah, there's tons of problems that may or may not ever be fixed, but I'm guessing you're still mad that Houston got knocked off early making sure to get in a dig on New Orleans in nearly every new poll since. We are what the 80th most populous city in America and maybe the 50th largest metro yet here we are hanging with the big three and Denver which I would not personally have anything bad to say about.
I'm just giving my opinion, which is that New Orleans is in probably my least favorite state in the country, which has the country's largest prison population by a wide margin, nation-worst education and healthcare outcomes, etc. NO itself consistently has one of the highest murder rates in the country. That's bad, I think? The only other city left that's top twenty is Chicago and NO's is 50% higher.
There's not really any reason to go after NOLA in particular if it's just that I'm still mad about Houston.
Really want the final two to be NYC and LA. Honestly New Orleans and Chicago are both rad too, but the debate has always been are you a NYC person or LA person. East coast/ west coast. Biggie / Tupac. It's a debate as old as time, but inforoo just really hates driving for some reason.
It's not the worst outcome ... but LA as a city is kind of an outlier, especially by the criteria that people have been petitioning on. LA as a sprawling region is conceptually better than LA as a standalone city.
If there are single issue voters hung up on transportation - I can't blame them for turfing LA soon.
I've voted Denver the last few rounds because while it's a fun city I feel like it has very little of its own culture and the food isn't great
I say that as I'm literally booking a flight today to visit this summer but still
I've been told the food was good and that Boulder was also up there? I know that people eat elk and shit like that up that way. Baby spring lamb comes from there too, but I'm not eating a baby lamb any more than I would eat a rocky mountain oyster.

I love Houston, so that's not an issue for me. But New Orleans isn't a state which you know but got turned. Alabama, West Virginia and Mississippi are probably way worse than Louisiana. And there's plenty to like in all of those places as well.
I will confess I enjoy the Mountain Style pizza you can get in Denver. Still, the other cities are leagues better. NOLA is the closest thing you can get to as a European city without leaving USA.
denver is the most European city in the USA
I wasn’t previously anti Denver but now I am because of this sentence.
New Orleans is an affront to god by being built below the ocean and Chicago is so cold. Denver in definitely the prettiest and cleanest city left. Arguably the best weather too.
The whole state of California is in a rolling state of emergency due to unbreathable air, wild fires, earthquakes, or mudslides and is bound to collapse into the Pacific at literally any moment.
I wouldn't live in any other city personally. Weather, culture, music, architecture, food and multiple events constantly going on definitely gives it all check marks for me. Plus, we are in the thick of festival season here. There an event almost every week right now.
Buku - March 25-26 Hogs for a Cause - April 1-3 Final Four - April 1-4 Zydeco & Seafood Extravaganza April 9-10 French Quarter Festival (which is FREE and multiple venues throughout the city) April 21-24 JazzFest April 29-May 3 Daze Between New Orleans May 3-4 Do the Zoo - May 6 Bayou Boogaloo - May 20-22 Greek Fest - May 27-29 New Orleans Wine & Food Experience June 7-12 Essence Festival July 1-3 San Fermin in New Orleans July 8-10 (which includes the NOLA style Running of the Bulls) Tales of the Cocktail July 25-29
I could literally go on. We used to have dead summers due to the heat, but NOLA worked hard to get events through the heat and the restaurants all have lunch/dinner "coolinary" specials. This city is magic.

It's in France. Three syllables (or-le-ah) and the capital of Centre-Val de Loire region. Jean d'Arc (aka Joan of Ark) famously fought the English there in the early 1400's and preserved the city for France. I think it's SW of Paris.

Wait is that last pic from the 90s Volcano flick with Tommy Lee Jones ?

I would honestly feel bad if I did a post like this about New Orleans but it's literally already under water.
We've had our fair share of short straws with weather events in the last 20-25 years. But we're not under water anymore than the city was settled below sea level. That's a misconception. The city was settled at a high point on the river. In the old days, there would be spring floods and then the soil would be deposited along the banks and make the land higher. Of course diversionary practices and keeping the river within a set of banks fucked shit up. It doesn't move back and forth anymore, but the land doesn't get replaced around it. So the city continues to sink and will eventually be underwater. But it isn't. This is literally out of my window looking at the river where the city was first settled.
See the Natchez steamboat? That's about where the original landings were. And no, that area is not underwater. We don't swim to work on most days and don't drive submarines to get from place to place.

Nah, I don't feel bad. You were calling out New Orleans and Chicago for this stuff. Just helps to mention that LA has its issues.
While we're at it, you called out Chicago as so cold and said that Denver has the best weather yet Denver is colder in the winter with twice as much snow.
Weather Highlights Denver, Colorado Summer High: the July high is around 88.9 degrees Winter Low: the January low is 17.9 Rain: averages 16.7 inches of rain a year Snow: averages 60.2 inches of snow a year
Chicago, Illinois Summer High: the July high is around 83.9 degrees Winter Low: the January low is 19.2 Rain: averages 38.2 inches of rain a year Snow: averages 35.1 inches of snow a year

Wut
denver weather is better than LA imo, too hot and smoggy.

I agree with this statement.
Edit: But science says I'm wrong.
BESTPLACES COMFORT INDEX
Los Angeles The annual BestPlaces Comfort Index for Los Angeles is 9.1 (10=best), which means it is one of the most pleasant places in California.
9.1 / 10 June, May and October are the most pleasant months in Los Angeles, while January and February are the least comfortable months.
Denver The annual BestPlaces Comfort Index for Denver is 7.3 (10=best), which means it is more comfortable than most places in Colorado.
7.3 / 10 June, September and August are the most pleasant months in Denver, while December and January are the least comfortable months.
this basically just says colder = bad which is a legit opinion I suppose. Those aren't even the most pleasant months in Denver imo, I prefer spring/fall.

Idk if Denver's air quality is that great either.
They found that metro Denver residents faced an average EPA AQI level of 64, with 274 days in 2018 during which air quality was moderately degraded or unhealthy — more than in almost every other large metro area with populations topping 1 million. The researchers counted eight days that registered unhealthy, with a maximum AQI reading of 174. Denver’s healthy air days in 2018 — an AQI lower than 50 — numbered 83, about 22% of that year.
Only the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metro areas had worse air quality than metro Denver in 2018, according to the 360 Quote researchers’ analysis.
