I'm really struggling with the Exploding Star Orchestra vs. Rich Ruth schedule conflict... Any arguments for one or the other?
Rich Ruth set at Nelsonville last summer was GREAT, big ensemble with Luke Schneider on pedal steel. That said, it seems like ESO is a rarer opportunity? Kali Malone in that time slot for me, but ESO/Los Lobos/Kali/Rich Ruth is a terrible logjam for me

Final-ish run at a schedule that probably doesn't account for travel times or eating as much as it should:
R: Lonnie Holley > Terry Allen > My Brightest Diamond > 700 Bliss > The Mountain Goats > Liturgy F: Reasons to be Cheerful > Gatos do Sul > Bonny Light Horseman > Larry & Joe > Mary Halvorson > Love in Exile > Los Lobos > Pino Palladino & Blake Mills > William Parker > Son Lux > Makaya McCraven > billy woods Sa: Stephen O'Malley > Bassekou Kouyate > Christian McBride > Kevin Morby > The Weather Station > Charles Lloyd > Devendra Banhart > Ichiko Aoba > Sierra Ferrell > Bela Fleck > Cecile McLorin Salvant > Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupil Su: Zorn Gnostic Trio > Theon Cross > Wadada Leo Smith > James Brandon Lewis > Kate NV > Sona Jobarteh > Oneohtrix Point Never > Algiers > Zorn Cobra

Not to throw you into conflict hell again but Sun Ra Arkestra is possibly the GOAT big ears set imo, borders on "can't miss" I think

Not Nathan but it probably has more to do with times to get to the venues than actually seeing the shows. Evsn if you left early from Ichiko you'd have a 15/20 minute walk to M&M. There's also a good possibility that SRA show goes to 1 in 1 out.

haha, 100% why I just wind up haunting M&M and standard. Ngl I was hoping to buy an ebike so I could just commute easily from my house to all the venues but it turns out buying a house is mad fucking expensive, who would have known

I've been recovering from bronchitis for a few weeks now and trying to get straight for BE. I looked into the shuttle lines they're doing again and I'm floored it doesn't run to the KMA.
Congrats or condolences on house owning idk which though. I go through both every day.

This is definitely part of it! Also had the opportunity to see SRA at Pitchfork in 2016 and a good friend is obsessed with Sierra Ferrell so hoping to make her jealous
Even given all that there's a nonzero chance I still end up trying to see them anyway

I don't usually come up with a realistic schedule... I always end up with overlaps and impossible sprints across town (plus no food breaks). But I think I'm close with this one...
Thursday Matt Nelson's Out Series -> Sam Gendel & Sam Wilkes -> My Brightest Diamond -> Exploding Star Orchestra OR Rich Ruth (going back and forth on this one)
Friday Conversation: Beat Down -> Danielle Ponder (partial: first 30 mins) -> The Music of Annea Lockwood -> Mary Halvorson: Amaryllis -> Film: True Stories + Q & A w/ David Byrne -> Pino Palladino & Blake Mills -> Son Lux -> Makaya McCraven (partial: final 60 mins) -> Caterina Barbierei
Saturday Stephen O'Malley -> Lee Ranaldo -> Bill Orcutt & Chris Corsano Duo -> Devandra Banhart -> Kali Malone -> Brandee Younger -> SUSS -> Secret Show @ Tennessee Theatre (Maybe)
Sunday Conversation: John Zorn & Christian McBride -> Morton Subotnick -> Music of Éliane Radigue -> Bill Frisell Four (partial: first 45 mins) -> caroline -> John Zorn w/ Christian McBride & Dave Lombardo -> Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos (partial: first 40 mins) -> John Zorn: Cobra
Especially sad to miss: Ichiko Aoba, Josephine Foster, Reid Anderson, Shane Parish, Steve Gunn w/ David Moore, Sun Ra Arkestra, Theon Cross, and Tim Glick

Is there more to SRA these days than just as a legacy act?
I would say yes. Living Sky, the newest release, is phenomenal. The last few years have seen the first new output in over 20 years. Including compositions by Marshall Allen - who has been with the SRA for over 60 years. I saw them in October and they can still bring the heat.

How bad of a walk is it from the Civic Auditorium to the main drag where the other venues are? To pick a hypothetical example, how feasible is it to see most of Kate NV, Sona Jobarteh and OPN? All three of those are wonderful but might have to drop one of the first two if I'll be spending all my time hauling back and forth between KCA and the Standard

Google says 17 minutes and a 0.8 mile walk. Not something I'd wanna do a bunch, but it's doable. garageland would tell you I can't be trusted to define walkable though. 😄

According to this downtown Knox should have 'rideshare' ebikes thru Bird.
Dave Maynar can you confirm? I know there were scooters available last year, but I dont recall seeing ebikes.

I can't recall seeing an ebike, but a) i don't spend much time in downtown proper and b) I've never looked close enough at people on bikes to see if they're rentals.

This is good news. I have a few gaps Saturday and Sunday that there isn't much going on for me.

For Saturday, he's told me he's gonna play whatever the fuck he wants, so it's gonna be right up your alley probably.
Is anyone up for group messaging? I can get something set up for the weekend if there's intrest.
Also, does Tomato Head on Saturday morning for brunch work for everyone?
I'm in for the Group messaging. My first show on Saturday is O'Malley, so I'm in for Tomato Head if I can be out of there by 10:30 (but again, and obviously, don't plan around me...)

Funnily enough, I happened to walk right by an unused one leaving a show Friday night. In that collection, there were like 4-5 scooters and 1 bike, so my guess is the bikes are less plentiful.
