Is anyone up for group messaging? I can get something set up for the weekend if there's intrest.
Also, does Tomato Head on Saturday morning for brunch work for everyone?
I'm in for the Group messaging. My first show on Saturday is O'Malley, so I'm in for Tomato Head if I can be out of there by 10:30 (but again, and obviously, don't plan around me...)
In the same boat--game for both group message and brunch, but trying to hit O'Malley. Four days! I don't think my personal schedule plans are changing too much. My college roommate is coming up from Durham for his first Big Ears and booked us in at the Hilton so I'll be living the life.

I don't have Facebook but my brother does if that's what simplest for everyone! Also trying to hit up the early O'Malley show so we'll probably follow one of you that knows where the art museum is

Zero problem finding it. Look for a bunch of people wearing all black and follow them. It's worked for me more often than not.

I had shut my FB account down 5-6 years ago, but ended up creating a new one during the Pandemic, once I couldn't communicate with my friends any other way! So either GroupMe or FB work for me.

Weather's looking pretty decent overall! Probably going to have a bit of rain on Saturday but very pleasant (60s-ish) otherwise
The app has listings for which acts have been the most scheduled. Might shift around a bit before the fest but here's the Top 10: 1. David Byrne: Reasons to be Cheerful 2. Sun Ra Arkestra 3. Love in Exile (Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, Shahzad Ismaily) 4. Los Lobos (Thu) 5. John Zorn: Cobra 6. Andrew Bird 7. John Zorn: Nove Cantici per Francesco d'Assisi 8. Bill Frisell Four 9. Iron & Wine 10. Calexico

I have a friend with a Sonic Explorer ticket who is no longer able to attend. Anyone interested? He's going to sell it through Lyte, so it'll be on the up-and-up (and not scalped)... let me know!

I just secured a ticket on Lyte for super cheap and am meeting someone from Knoxville when we roll into town on Friday for our second ticket. Will be at the Super 8 Wyndham East. Down for Brunch Saturday, two people. We have a car. Also have floor/cot space for someone if anyone needs a place.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

If it helps, I just got an email from International Anthem that said
The Big Ears Festival performance of Exploding Star Orchestra will feature the following musicians: Rob Mazurek, Damon Locks, Craig Taborn, Angelica Sanchez, Tomeka Reid, Chad Taylor, Gerald Cleaver, and Mary Halvorson.

As always, I'm schedule-modifying.
Here's my Realistic Festival Picks™ for today:
-> (5:00 PM; Pilot Light) Matt Nelson’s Out Series (First 30 mins) -> (6:00 PM; St. John’s) Yarn/Wire plays the music of Lucier, McIntosh, & Mochizuki -> (8:15 PM; St. John’s) Mivos Quartet plays Steve Reich -> (10:15 PM; Knoxville Civic Auditorium) Exploding Star Orchestra
Decided to stay predominantly on the South side today, which means I'm going to miss Sam Gendel & Sem Wilkes, as well as My Brightest Diamond. The timings for these picks just gave some better space to be able to get good seats for the rest of the evening. I also took off Liturgy because, realistically™, I probably wouldn't be able to catch more than 20 mins of their set (Exploding Star Orchestra is set to end at 11:30PM).
Also, I know this would cost more money, so it's "easier said than done," but I do think there are a lot of people who won't choose films over live performances... and having some of those films play Thursday beginning at Noon feels like a missed opportunity. Well, a missed opportunity for me, anyway
My hotel check in is at 4 and I'm getting ready to leave now. Dunno where I'll be till 7 but planning on Staples Jr. Singers > Macie Stewart > 700 Bliss > Liturgy.
Grey Three Lobed Records hat and black hoodie. Come say hi.

Today’s picks… favoring complete performances, with time to get great seats / spots over partial sets w/ jaunts across town.
-> (11:00 AM; Krutch Park) Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives: The Park -> (1:00 PM; KMA) Stephen O'Malley: This is How You Will Disappear -> (3:00 PM; Bijou) Mary Halvorson: Amaryllis -> (4:30 PM; KMA) Kali Malone: Living Torch -> (6:15 PM Bijou); Tyshawn Sorey Trio (w/ Joe Lovano & Bill Frisell) -> (7:45 PM; Tennessee) Pino Palladino & Blake Mills -> (9:45 PM; Mill & Mine) Son Lux -> (11:00 PM; Jig & Reel) Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives: The Bar -> (11:59 PM; Mill & Mine) Caterina Barbierei

We went ahead and drove through the night and are getting ready. easymorningrebel came from Miami packed with thick leather jackets and scarves because he was afraid he would be cold this far north.

After roughly 13 years of playing various games in the Arcade and late night drunken banter, I finally met my soulmate and biggest Inforoo crush, NothingButFlowers. What a wonder babe!
I said we needed to take a photo of the two of us, easymorningrebel, tronik, and garageland and then I stooged out and forgot. Ooof.
