Its been covered at great length already but the only "downside" to a smaller attendance is if you're talking about the longevity and sustainability of the fest, which still will probably be fine in the long run. They've had poor attendance years before and bounced back. It terms of the festival experience itself, yeah not sure how there's much of a downside at all.
But you have to see how they bounced back. They had to book U2 to get crowds back one year. So are they gonna follow Lolla and get some Kpop to bolster sales?
U2 had one of the smallest crowds I’ve ever seen at a headliner, not countin’ 2016.
2016 was excellent! Ya’ll are in for a treat. Less lines at the vendors and potties. Food wont be sold out as fast. Walk right into the Pits right when the shows start. Its fun

Double edged sword. If they are planning for smaller crowds theyll staff it that way. So maybe there will be lines for things cause they only have a single worker instead of 3 like normal.

There's depth in this. I was saying to SFA the other day that I can't feel bad for LN if they flopped on this one attendance wise. I also know that Bonnaroo is about adapting and there will be less staff for sure. That could mean either harder or easier security checks, hard to tell - it could mean that the repeat buyers are the main audience here and you'll see a lot of that energy. Good with the bad.
Rather have them blow out on a fun year than, waste it on say.. Foo Fighters instead of Tool and a "hotter" Friday HL act? that sold more tickets but wasn't the way LN books? When there's that many variables you just say fuck it. I'm going to go fucking do my thing and it's going to be a blast.

Looks like DreamaRoo was reporting back on their factual experience from 2016.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Honestly the only time the crowd really "felt" small was at femi kuti. I was able to walk right up to the rail as he started. But it filled in pretty well.
I never felt that sort of crushed -in cattle call feeling in a slow moving mass of people moving about in centeroo. Was easy to bounce around to different shows, find a shady spot to sit down and rest. I don't know if these attendance numbers are sustainable for the production and logistics costs, but I'd be fine with this sort of attendance moving forward.

eh, if LiveNation is fine with this turning into Gov Ball South, 40k attendance would work.

This is an accurate assessment of the direction that bonnaroo is going, just with more acts at plazas etc.
They have to totally get their shit together though because they don't know how to structurally run a camping festival yet.
So is AC no longer involved in the festival at all? I knew Live Nation was handling fest production and logistics, but I thought AC was still doing the booking.
