In my opinion if they wanted to drive Madrid they needed the lineup to be significantly better than Barcelonas. If the lineup is the same, and someone has to choose one weekend or the other and not just do both, Barcelona is the easy choice
re: the location of Madrid, I've got to say that during PS this year it always cost us minimum 30 mins to maximum an hour to get back to our hotel - and we were located in the city centre, not even as much so outside on the way to the airport which is even further. But I absolutely don't trust busses / shuttles for this to work. It's insane that half their budget is gonna be spent on that, feels so wasted that I'm questioning why they opted for Madrid even in the first place.

until Barcelona sells out

I honestly don’t think they’re looking at it as a destination festival. From what was said yesterday, they’re focusing on the community of greater Madrid. Capacity was marked at 100k in the press conference . Zero chance they hit that. I’m betting if they get between 50 to 60k it’ll be a win for them.
The city also said they want it to return year after year though so this isn’t one and done.

Shuttles suck, I agree. That said, I’ve had some totally crazy fast experiences on a shuttle.
This Ain’t No Picnic (for example), Fred and I walked out of the gates at the end of the festival and onto a bus. The walk to the gates took longer than the actual waiting. Now admittedly they dropped us off in God Knows Where Burbank and we had two Ubers cancel on us but the shuttle itself was fine. Had there been a better public transportation system, we would have been fine.
And they got talked into that space. My guess is they got free use of locations that were otherwise setting there not making money.
They meant just one weekend with Ciutat shows on Monday and Tuesday and free day in Parc del Forum on Wednesday. Bits area is gone -not the stages, just the area in Sant Adrià del Besos- but unrelated to that phrasing. The new Mordor setup is staying, that's a given.

how are they gonna keep the bits stages while losing the area to put them in?

Was wondering that as well. I don't see the space to fit two more stages in the non bits area of the fest.
They’re not changing the Mordor set up from 2022, they called it “a massive success” or something along those lines
I really disliked it actually. It meant that camping at Mordor for big acts was way easier than just having to move from front to back. Huge crowds standing still for a long time can cause bottlenecks, which we saw happening across several performances most notably with Dua Lipa, Tame Impala and Gorillaz. If crowds keep moving, then stuff like that doesn't happen. On a normal field festival, this wouldn't be so much of an issue but because of the location, PS has only so much passages from and going to Mordor. I hope they change it cause it's dangerous asf.

And there already was a lot of sound bleed coming from Boiler Room to Plenitude. I was hoping they actually get the permit they need, not for the 30 (?) k that it was supposed to hold but maybe like 15-20k and add BR back to Bits. Bits was mostly empty a lot of the times and having it only two stages, there's only so much reason to go that far out from the rest to see a show or not. I suppose that's not what they were talking about?
if they get bridge access again it solves the problem. I don't really get how they weren't allowed to use the bridge this year... but still had clearance to let VIP or whatever use it.

i didn’t like it either, but this kind of language doesn’t fill me with much hope in that regard
The side by side stages were trash compared to the old way, but if they just got rid of the dumbass VIP area directly blocking half the viewing area at both fields I think it would be a lot better anyway.
Those Pulp dates make it a lot more plausible. Not a conformation by any means but open on BCN and booked 1 day during Madrid. That could be part of the 98% they were referring to.

playing Ireland on the Friday during Madrid doesn’t feel promising to me

I’m thinking they’re playing Barcelona and not Madrid. At least till more dates pop up and rule them out completely. Something was said in the press conference that was (paraphrase here) “if someone can only play one festival then it will happen”. I’ll try and look for that quote.
If that happens though, the disappointment is gonna be deafening.
