I'm on hardcore until further notice cause idk what it is
there's an electronic genre called hardcore but i'm assuming the hardcore in this survivor is referring to hardcore punk, a more musically conservative "roots" reaction to post punk, new wave, etc. these early acts eschew anything artsy or cool or electronic or psychedelic. it's what i think most people think of when they think of punk. the act that best encapsulates the original meaning of hardcore punk is Minor Threat.
but in the decades since hardcore picked up elements of heavy metal and birthed a variety of different genres, all with the -core moniker, the broadest of which is metalcore. first wave metalcore felt a lot like thrash metal vocally, lots of growling and eventually the metalcore innovation of screaming. this is mostly considered first wave metalcore, but today if you search out metalcore artists a lot of the vocals are clean with songwriting heavily influenced by pop punk or mallcore or myspacecore. so distinctly metal riffs coupled with clean vocals and often lyrics about being sad. there's recently been a revival of 1st wave metalcore with acts like Knocked Loose, but still when most fans these days think metalcore, they mean acts like, you guessed it, Architects.
because of where they came from, a lot of these newer metalcore acts still are described as "hardcore" since that is where they ultimately come from.
quick shout out to the youtube channel Punk Rock MBA who does a ton of entertaining nerdy videos about the history of various punk and metal subgenres and acts.
During the late ’90s and early 00s, a small Swedish music studio was responsible for a phenomenally high percentage of the world’s biggest pop hits. Cheiron Studios innovated upon the formula laid out by Abba and helped put the likes of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys on bedroom walls around the world.
My favorite hardcore bands are Converge, Refused and when I looked up best hardcore albums. Relationship Of Command was on there, so yea I love that shit. I know I’m not real hardcore. Sorry guys .
Maybe this was mentioned in one of the other day’s threads, but what differentiates house from techno?
Different geographical origins - House came primarily from Chicago, techno from Detroit.
In a more modern sense, and speaking specifically to musical elements,
Techo: Less melodic, heavy kick with infrequent snare/clap, often "darker" House: More melodic, "boots n cats" (snare on beats 2 and 4), often uplifting
Evenflow has to be the king of buttrock songs. If we’re putting them in that category, they’re the best.
