I can’t imagine a world where someone could listen to In Utero, Ten, Superunknown, Purple, MC&TIS, and Frogstomp and not appreciate every single drop of it. Much less put genres like “hyperpop” ahead of it. The only argument would be the case that grunge/alternative and hyperpop/pop should be combined since they are subgenres/genres.
For being one of the smaller genres, hardcore gave live music the kick in the ass it needed. It brought in audience participation in ways that enhance our experiences even today in rock, rap, psychedelic, indie and metal. I said it the other day, but we mosh, we dance hard, we stage dive and we crowdsurf. No other genre has brought that much to the table. Come as you are, tattoos, colored hair, leftist politics, acceptance of others for whoever they were as long as they weren’t nazi. I’m sure hyperpop exposed us to new fashion but that shit never mattered to me. Vote off hardcore, but remember if it wasn’t for us, rap and Frank Zappa beating the PMRC, you all wouldn’t be able to even curse.
Even in 7th Grade that shit seemed promoted and contrived. Penance sacrament is I like some songs though because that’s like me at 12-13-14 and goes along with everything else you’re exposed to. Some of it will appeal. That’s the nicest thing I think I could ever say about disco. In the actual world I’m finishing up on the Metallica Lolla show at the moment and got Denzel in 5. Can’t hate 100% but no
In defense of hardcore, here’s Waiting Room by Fugazi. The first video is one of my favorite videos of live music ever. The second is the studio recording. Also fucking awesome.
