IndieWire posted an article that after the success of Barbie, it’s proof that audiences are craving non IP movies. I couldn’t help but scratch my head at them not understanding that Barbie is a 60+ year old property.

Barbie is very good, but studios are going to largely miss the point and go full speed ahead with other Mattel properties and similar types of IP. Also wouldn't draw any broad conclusions from Oppenheimer, Nolan exists in his own little universe.
Got my tickets for Barbenheimer. Seeing Barbie first followed by Oppenheimer; order chosen simply based on best option.
Of note, both my seating maps appear to have “single-person” seats. Normally the recliners are pairs and I just have to select one half, I guess I never noticed they also had single seats too.
Tonight is USWNT with their World Cup opener.

i wanted to see Oppenheimer this weekend, but Jack decided theatres will be too packed, so we're going to see it in a few weeks. Will probably wait to see Barbie once it's streaming. Not because I'm not interested, but because going to the theatre costs us around $80 😬

I haven't read the article yet, but I assume it's because from analysis I've seen of the film - they went out of their way to let the writers and director decide the direction of the film. While keeping the wholesomeness in, but even throwing shade at Mattel; which was a risky and "approved". But yea they don't know what IP is in reality

Barbenheimer completed. Oppenheimer at 11:15am and Barbie at 3:30.
Oppenheimer was terrifyingly good. Cillian better get nominated across the board. Top tier performance. The pacing made me anxious in a good way. The whole cast was great, just everyone firing across all cylinders.
Barbie was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a theater in a while. Theater was decked with people in pink and everyone laughing throughout. So many laughs and so well written for such a short movie. I guess everything felt short after Oppenheimer lol
Go watch both in a packed theater. Amazing time for movie lovers.

this is probably an awful analogy but as i was watching Oppenheimer i couldn’t help but relate the pacing to a really long song or a jam band playing something live. just had that shared feeling of a perfect sense of extended tension so many times throughout and, for me, the slow downs never got too slow.
i saw some takes about the last hour being able to be condensed a lot, but i thought it was really great seeing both Oppenheimer and Strauss’ situations unfold little by little as someone who didn’t know much of the history at all before going in. can’t wait to watch it all again at some point
When I first heard that script was one of the best some of the actors had ever read, I knew this was something special and Ken's whole story was a great reason to why. I'm still singing I'm Just Ken in my head. That whole sequence was hilarious and filled with so many little details. Every TV showing horses got me rolling. Absolutely loved seeing it in a packed theater with everyone in hysterics. Highly recommend doing the same.
If Barbie doesn't win or even get nominated for best production design, I'm going to riot. This was the Wizard of Oz for the 21st century. I know comedies don't get much love during awards season so I'm really curious to see if this turns it around. Greta had mentioned a lot of 50s/60s era films to watch to prepare for Barbie on a Letterbox interview and it showed. You could feel the influence in every scene.
I'm glad they didn't exposition dump explaining how Barbie could get into the real world and vice versa. None of that matter. It was a fantastical film with a great story and message that didn't really pull its punches. This is going to be a summer classic with lots of rewatchability potential.
It was so weird to see a jam packed theater at 11am for a 3 hour biographical epic about the creation of the atom bomb. But that's Nolan for ya. I kept thinking how this was the 'Avengers' level Nolan film with all the heavy hitting actors involved. You forget all about that when the film starts then it creeps on you that, hey, look. It's Oscar winner Rami Malek delivering his 10 minute contribution to the whole film. Everyone delivered no matter how small their role was. Florence's part was heart breaking, Blunt and Cillian arc was haunting then there's Downy who I didn't realize was such a huge character in this just delivering one of this best performances in years. And the big cameo at the end didn't hit me till after the film but I just knew there was someone famous playing the president. Another just great, great scene.
I guess there's been some criticism for the last hour being too long but I didn't mind it. It really did feel like two movies with the rush to creating the bomb being one and the Prestige esque deception of the last hour being a different film. This is definitely the culmination of Nolan's work with all of his skillset being showcased in full from the practical effects of the bomb to the multiple timelines to the deception of Strauss, it's the ultimate Nolan film.
Also, is this the first Nolan film with nudity? I can't recall if Insomnia or even Memento had any but I don't believe so. The seamless blend of Cillian getting interrogated from clothed to naked was so well done. A top Nolan scene and something you wouldn't expect with this subject matter. I definitely plan to watch again on 70mm and IMAX.
“Barbie is tracking to become the biggest film of 2023 and has a good chance of getting into the Top 10 highest grossing films of all time. It is an incredibly exciting moment for the industry, and we expect this trend to continue for the coming weeks.”

The runtime didn't bother me at all, though I know some probably think it could have been scaled back. The last act went a little slower but the story was always interesting.
I didn't notice the sound issues that many complained about with inability to hear the dialogue. Maybe a little low but I could still understand everything pretty well. I do wish Nolan would have maybe cut the background music a bit more while people were talking. It did get a little over-bearing at times.
The cast was great and all the acting was top notch. The score was spot on. Not sure exactly where this will fall for me with Nolan films yet. I'm definitely going to watch it again although probably not in theater, where it really shines. Lots to take in from it for sure.
