Wife wants to see Oppenheimer first and cheer herself up with Barbie after. I want to see Barbie first, because I think it's shorter, and I think I'm struggling with some serious sciatica and maybe a herniated disc or other spinal/nerve issue that really really hurts when I'm sitting. If no one thinks it is creepy for me to stand in the back of a theatre for an entire show and pace around, I will see both this weekend.

I don’t think I sold this to my friends very well, maybe I shouldn’t’ve said “hey do y’all wanna go see a three hour movie and then go get wasted and then go back and watch another three hour movie”

Saturday marks Barbenheimer day. Catching my first-ever 70mm screening with Oppemheimer shortly past noon, and then going right into Barbie to cleanse the palette and bask in pink, empowering sunshine

Also, I've heard two different strategies when seeing both films. One, that's been pointed out already, is to see Opp first then go to Barbie for a 'pick-me up' feel good movie after. But some have also recommended to see Barbie first because after seeing Opp, that's all they could think about and wanted to talk about for a while after it ended.

Saw Barbie last night but not seeing Oppenheimer until the 4th since we're traveling up to Irvine to see it on a "legit" 70mm IMAX screen. Which is wildly the closest one to us in San Diego.
How we treating actual spoilers in this thread? Since it’s specific to two movies.
Barbenheimer going down Saturday for me.
Spoiler it since this is a "I am going to see it" thread and not a "I have seen it thread." We usually don't do spoiler threads for individual films anyway.
I was for sure going to see Oppenheimer this weekend but I have a friend in town and I know for a fact that Oppenheimer is not for them. May end up doing Barbie and seeing Oppenheimer during the week.

"wife" won't do barbie and oppenheimer in the same day, so we are just doing Barbie on saturday. my dad will be in the same theater as us seeing oppenheimer at the same time.
i'm stoked for barbie but really was hoping to do both in the same day.
Who knew that keeping both movies on the same weekend would have actually benefited them. I don’t think we’d see as much hype without the internet going crazy with these memes.
Sort of worried about what lessons studios will take from these huge numbers.
Hoping it will be that audiences want more unique, original content from auteur filmmakers and less CGI driven sequels, requels, and remakes from studio shills.
But likely it will just be that all you need is a good viral meme.
Idk. They tried this with Morbius and look how that tanked. The optimist in me wants to think they’ll make more bold choices by not moving blockbuster movies apart schedule wise.

Honestly as much as I wish that were the case, I think the takeaway between the success of both Barbie and Super Mario and the continued success of Spider-man despite other comic book movies boming and being poorly received will be that the most bankable movies are based on characters everyone knows, and not the "extended universe" of marvel or star wars because the moment that you could get people to care about minor comics characters like Guardians of the Galaxy getting their whole movie has passed. I expect Disney to put out a Mickey Mouse movie within the decade
On the topic of this thread, my Barbenheimer plans are Sunday matinees, Barbie at 12:30 and Oppenheimer at 4:00 (in 70mm, not IMAX though)
