This is my thing, it only works if you can pull it off... if cops ask to search your car, act SLIGHTLY dumb. You don't want them to think you're a zippy (or worse, stoned) but usually the line of questioning goes something like this (in a very innocent voice)
-But why would you want to search my car?
-But wouldn't that take a long time? I don't have anything. so there's no need for you to search.
-Are you asking if you can? 'Cause if I'm allowed to say no, then I'd like to go and get on with my day now.
Of course, if he tries to tell you that you have to consent, then feel free to tell him to shove it. I've just found it's usually better coming off as someone who hasn't researched police search rights up the ying yang 'cause they have a bale in the trunk.
Underage Drinking is Wrong... But... if you had to have a reason to smuggle Liquor in...
A handle is 1.75 liters, Now its your job to match the color of the liquor closest to the color of a 1.5 liter bottle of soda. Fill it, then with a trace amount of super glue you can 'seal it closed' virtually unnoticeable.
Or Make your mixed concoctions at home, (one full handle of booze, and fill the rest of the 3liter soda bottles with your mixer). Then bring a second bottle of soda to dilute the mix when you reach camp.
also works well with the no glass rule.
For example, my handle of vodka will be placed in a bottle of sprite. My buddies two bottles of whiskey and rum will be placed in a bottle of Birch Beer and Cream Soda.
Beer can be disguised and placed inside twelvepacks of soda, superglued or taped to hide the open box.
.
I work with the Police of Suffolk County NewYork. The best way to speak to them is by saying 'Officer' not 'sir' or 'Ma'am' I have been told by a few cop buddies, that if they pull over anyone that say's 'Sir' or anything other then 'Officer' they'll give them a hard time.
I'm not too worried, I'm a fairly conservative driver, my cars clean and completely legal. Booze will be hidden well. also i have several PBA cards as well as my ID. (instant get out of jail free card)
Anything you don't want to the cops to ask you about, DON'T LEAVE OUT IN PLAIN VIEW! If they are going to search your car, they are going to do it, they won't ask permission and your probably f'd at that point anyway. Bottom line, keep it out of plain view, don't consent to searches (by the cops at least, the 'roo people will look through your stuff, not much you can do about that).

One little bit of advise from a former officer. I use to work some overtime working festivals. We would be there camping with all the regular folks. We were looking for the hardcore users, but don't just light up around anyone. Know the people you are hanging with and stay away from the hardcore ones that don't know any better. Bonnaroo is a wonderful experience and I don't see why anyone would need to cloud their mind to enjoy this festival, but that's your choice. Anyway, have a great time and remember, save enough of your mind so you can come back next year! ;D

I hate to burst your bubble, but this will not work on the way into roo. the reason is that you are entering onto private property and they have the rulle that all guests are subject to search upon entering the grounds.
Now you can certainly refuse the search, as that is completely within your legal rights, but if you do, they will turn you away from roo and you wont be allowed to enter.
If you are selected to be searched on the way into roo, you only have two choises, let them search, or turn around and go home!
You could always show up at the gates already filthy and covered in dirt and mud with your ticket being the only thing clean about you... I doubt the security person would really want to put his/her hands all over you

A theory, or words I've always lived by is don't give them a reason. Just be smart and bad things won't necessarily happen. There are always those who fall victim to trouble despite even causing it, but I guess that's why they are called accidents.
We were all under 21 last year, so what we did was mix our whiskey with a 3 liter bottles of cola, 3 of em. We fit a whole handle in there, and we were driving there last year with a radar detector, so I was sitting in the back just drinkin on a big bottle of coke.
Be careful with the radar detector and be sure to read up on the state laws of the states you are driving through. I know they are illegal in Virginia.

I saw something sick today. I was watchin MSNBS Dateline and they were catching internet predators. This 40 something guy got caught going to what he thought was a 13 year old girls house to have sex with her. He pleaded guilty and only got 67 days in jail with 67 days credited for time served. My friend got 6 months for selling MJ.....now tell me what the hell is wrong with this. A f**king sicko pediphile got less time than my MJ selling buddy. Really pisses me off, I have a 9 year old niece and if this mther f**k*r had tried this on her he would die and I would get way more time than he woulda got for raping her. Non-violent offenders getting more time than violent criminals.....isn't the U.S. great.
^^^i totally agree...sexual assault of any kind should be severly punished but sooooo many people get away with doing horrible things because the victims are so embarrassed and afraid...it makes me sooo mad.
Be careful with the radar detector and be sure to read up on the state laws of the states you are driving through. I know they are illegal in Virginia.
yea virginia sucks, why does the east coast have so many cops

Driving through VA sucks in general...its such a HUGE, DARK state... worst part of the overnight Roo drive...

off the topic but whatever. i live in va, obviously. last year i had a town police officer pull me over. i had been smoking in the car like a fool and he knew it. instead of arresting me or giving me a ticket he made me grind a substance into the pavement and made me smash my glass with a tire iron. exactly a week later the same cop pulled me over this time i had been smoking even more and had more on me than the last time. however he then stated " i just can't do it to you, put that sh!t back in your pocket and go before the other officer in his car could make her way up to my car" i went home and had a great celebration and have been much smarter about things since then.

Another off-topic, but a similar deal happened to us at an apartment.. things were just way too loud.. unfortunately, our den was right by the front door(as usual with apartments) so the cop was alerted to the situation as soon as we answered..
He made us smash quite a few bits but no charges, and it taught us a good lesson.
As I said before... keep it secret, keep it safe, and you'll be ok!

Good posts all 'round, here.
My personal experience and recommendation is, as long as you know what you're doing, speed all you like until you get to TN, then slow it down, Sparky. (Convenient, because last year we hit a random traffic jam not far from the TN border anyway). My trip was spent at 80mph the entire way (from DC to the TN border, basically), with no problems. The thing about speeding is to be smart about it. Especially pay attention to semi trucks, they have CB radios and tend to know what's going on. If they're speeding, it's fine, if they're not, be careful.
And yeah, I like all the advice about not consenting to a search if you don't have to. I'll have to keep that in mind.
I would heavily advise against speeding in the state of VA.. like the above poster said though, if the trucks are speedin go along with them.. but let them go faster in VA, the cops there are no joke
In some states the police are just jerks, remember I use to be one. Just take it easy and enjoy the ride there. You can't have a good time if you never make it there! And like the above thread says, it's private property and they can do whatever they want and throw you out whenever they want, they are GOD! So, if you are going to try and hide something, just roll the dice and pray. As far as being searched on your way there, if the police want to search and you refuse, they will call in a dog. As soon as he marks something, BOOM, they have probable cause. See you guys there, I HOPE!

how thoroughly do the roo workers search your car? (i didn't get searched last year.)
Last year was the first time the Roo security people searched our car. One guy looked in the glove compartment, the console and under the front seats. Another guy opened our trunk, touched the very top of the massive pile of gear and said "Okay, you're good." And that was it. The guy who "searched" the front seat did find some periphinalia. He said "(BLANK)? You gotta have something on you." I responded that I had nothing on me but, that I did plan on getting rather f*cked up as soon as I found something. He said "Man, I'll be right there with you! It's been a long day." How cool is that?
That was it. I have to also add that my gf and I look pretty "normal", even square. Also, our car is free of stickers and stuff. That may be why we got off so easily. I have seen them "tearing apart" other people's cars in the past. Just be cool and honest (and don't smoke on the way in) and they'll most likely be cool with you. These guys/gals aren't cops. They're just a bunch of music fans trying to do their jobs and start their own Bonnaroo experience. Don't give them a reason and they won't f*ck with you.

I don't think that they will care about your age. As far as liquor goes, they will confiscate any glass bottles that they find. If you're bringing glass, just bury at the bottom of your cooler. You should be good.

i will probably just pour them into plastic bottles though anyways just to be safe.
