Question - my friends and I are not bringing herbal treats with us to 'Roo, if we want that we figured there will be plenty available. But we will probably bring some alcohol, and none of us are 21 yet. Obviously possessing alcohol under 21 is illegal - we get that. But as far as getting pulled over / car searches go, do you really think a few water bottles with rum in them will be noticed?
I've been in the same situation for the last 2 years going in and I've never had trouble. I dunno if the people thought we looked old enough, but no one said anything to us and we had our beer in the cooler and they just checked to see if we had glass. Don't bring glass and don't get pulled over before you get there. We did hide a couple cases w/ spare tire though. Just don't act like an idiot (some of my friends have a problem w/ that) and you'll be fine. And if you wanna bring liquor in buy the stuff that in plastic bottles. I know Evan Williams sells a 1/5th thats in plastic and I'm sure other brands do too. I wouldn't worry about Alcohol, its mainly drugs they are after.

I have a question which may seem silly - are there ever undercover cops at Roo? Like...ones who may try to sell you something to catch you?
I keep feeling very conflicting about taking my own things to Bonnaroo, on the chance that I'll get caught on the way there. Maybe I'm being too paranoid?

I will not be bringing anything of my own with me.
Im not sure if there have been undercovers in the past, but no matter what.. if you get a bad vibe it'd be best to stay away.
three of us in the truck last year ( our first roo). I'd done a lot of reading regarding everyone's past experiences. Nothing illegal happened in the truck (no odors in particular).
I am way over 21 but my passengers were under 21. We got stopped. I've got quite a bit of experience at security check points. While many of those manning the check points were roo volunteers or hire security there were MANY sworn officers around. Some cars were given "extra" attention and some were moved to side lanES where very "professional" attention was given to the vehicle.
We had enough beer and hard liquor in the car to kill a rhino. (along with lost of water, we killed the beer and liquor and had VERY LITTLE water left, but this is another thread..... ) What was a concern was the bottle (BOTTLE= GLASS = BAD) that one of the boys had put in the cooler at the last minute (ON THE TOP). So, we lost the bottle and the bottle alone cause a bit more of an inspection in the entire car.
The fest just wants everyone to be safe. They don't want glass. Put any glass deep in a cooler before you enter. Don't have the car smell like anything as you come in. Put any items you don't want seen, out of sight and NOT in the glove compartment or other easily viewed area. If you do this and have the "happy to be at roo, can't wait to set-up demeanor you will move through security check points with out a problem.
be careful in Maryland, i was on my way to STS9 last august and got pulled over by state trooper. I didn't consent to a search so they called the dogs, dogs had a hit and they searched my car, found like 2 grams, my bubbler and my batty. i got arrested and they gave me a years probation and court mandated rehab. Phuck Maryland.
Some parts of MD are like that, be careful. I never had any problems living in Towson(north of bmore) and I've never had any problems here in Rockville, but I've heard of those who have... don't do anything stupid is the main thing

Keep your car clean, dont speed, dont get pulled over, cops can and will do whatever the hell they want, with or without probable cause, all they have to do is make up a lie if you refuse like that you look nervous, suspicious, high, etc and if you refuse to comply they can get you for obstruction. Im not saying all cops do this, but if something is found, guess who the courts are going to believe. I had a cop order me out of my car once, for a falsetraffic violation he patted me down, forced me to empty my pockets, while another officer searched the car, they cited officer safety reasons. Igot busted w/ 2 halfs, and a pipe in my pocket. They also said that I consented, and that I gave them the names of people I was Dealing to, which none of was true. Why would I tell them I was going to commit a felony, and tell them everything, especially names of people that i didnt even know, but anyways, my attorney got me off the possession charge, and I had to pay a paraphernalia charge that I paid 224.50 on, pus attorney fees, and bail.I never had appear before a judge in the municipal court, I paid my fine before court took session, and was given one year of unsupervised probation. I guess I should be thankful that it wasnt worse, but I am driving clean to Bonnaroo because I know they pull the same nuts in Tennesse, and it is alot worse with their drug tax. All I am saying is that if you ride dirty, dont speed, smoke weed in your car, drink and drive, decorate your car, and hope that no asshat cops pull you over, because there really is no foolproof method to avoid hassle, just keep low, and hope for good luck to follow on your way there.

And be sure to wear your seatbelts! They can and will pull you over if even only one person in your car isn't buckled in! That just gives them the "in" that they're looking for.

Its getting to the point where I need to have some sort of small hidden video camera, and small hidden microphone to back me up in case of some sort of hassle. Cops could drag you out, beat theshit out of you, and say that you appeared to be reaching for something, maybe even plant something on you. This world is just getting worse everyday, and Im not saying that all cops are bad, but the bad ones do pull alot of shit, and get away with it lots of the time, especially if their partner(s) back them up. Thats why the fuzz gets the moniker"biggest and baddest gang on the face of the earth". Ever see Training Day?
the only thing I have to add is if you're comming on 65 through Nashville...pay attention to the speed limit. it's ridiculously low, and they will pull you over. also through Louisville. KY and TN use many many unmarked cars, so just be aware of what you're doing.
in MD they've just added an entire fleet of unmarked cars.. and don't just look for white crown vics, they can be anything! I saw a guy get pulled over by an oldish green van!

It is getting easier for people to impersonate officers, they actually expect people to pull over for an unmarked vehicle, like an old green van, that just doesnt sound right, I mean what if it wasnt a cop?Thats just f*cked up.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
This is kind of off topic, but my hometown and the two nearest towns all pitched in a bought a corvette. My mom got pulled over by it, they pass it around the different districts.
I'm 21 and going to bring vodka, rum and some beer. Now my boyfriend 20 and his bro goign to turn 18 at roo is obviously underage. Will they be stringent with the # NO MORE than 3 cases of beer per person # NO MORE than two 1.75 liters of hard liquor per person
So at most in our car I should pack 3 cases of beer and the the liquor and say its all mine? Would it be a prob on VA roads or at the Roo gates? Or should i just pack as much as I want and hope for the best?

I will be following all the safe driving rules; seat belts, speed limits, not smoking/ drinking (of course) but my license plate will still read NEW JERSEY so I feel like I'm screwed anyway. This is my first time, but my brother has been to roo before, and he said cars with NY and NJ plates are targeted in the south and that we'll most likely get pulled over just because we're from NJ. Do these cops think that everyone from NJ is in the Sopranos or MUST be in the mob? Do they think we're no good Yanks? I'm sure it won't help when I hand the cop my license and he sees my extremely Italian last name! Anyone here know anything about this?

we come from NYC and Jers and have never gotten pulled over (with Jers tags). Just be smart and cautious and you will be okay....
Seriously, as long as you're driving safely, not speeding, and your vehicle is in good condition, you probably won't get pulled over. Even with the NY/NJ plates. Most cops (even in the South) still only pull you over for actual violations.
As far as being searched on your way there, if the police want to search and you refuse, they will call in a dog. As soon as he marks something, BOOM, they have probable cause. See you guys there, I HOPE!
However, they can't make you stay and wait for the dog unless you are under arrest. They may make you THINK you aren't allowed to leave but they are only allowed to detain you for the reasonable amount of time it takes to give you the ticket for whatever you were pulled over for. Once that's done, you can go. If the cop says you can't, ask if you are under arrest, if not, ask why you are being detained. "We're waiting for a drug dog so we can get probable cause to search your car" is NOT an answer that will hold up in court.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Haha....I think that statement applies to most of the country. I'd bet that most Americans might not be able to pass a driving test in Germany, for example. Other countries have higher requirements for getting a license; here, it's really just demonstrate that you know what a car is and have some basic sense of how it works and you're good.

Case in point. Grin.
As I understand it, in at least a couple states, someone can upgrade from their learner's permit to a full license just by going to the DMV and signing a couple forms. No test required.

Once upon a time, my license was revoked (long story, but not driving related). After about two years, I was able to be reinstated by signing a piece of paper.

Yeah....the licensing system in this country is a joke. Or rather, are a joke, since it's up to each state and all. It's great for getting people on the road, but it completely ignores driver competence, skill, and safety.
My grandpa, who was from Germany, originally couldnt understand the concept of drink holders. He would say "You are either drinking or you are driving, not both!!" and was one of the best drivers i've ever known. Two hands on the wheel at ALL times. He did speed on the highway... a LOT.. but damn did he know what he was doing.
The tests they put him through vs. the tests USA drivers go through? a joke.
The laws are made to protect the police in a pull over. You don't leave if they don't feel the situation is safe for themselves or the public. They can at anytime call for a back up to assist in a pull over. Guess what? If they believe drugs are in the car or anything else that shouldn't be, that back up car will have a dog in it. You just need to start out on the right foot. They need a violation to pull someone over with so, don't speed, wear your seat belt, make sure all your lights work and just be really nice if pulled over. I can tell you don't like police officers Leo. I'm guessing that would come across if you were pulled over. Most all officers are there to keep everyone safe. If you are not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. I use to be an office and I was a good one, so don't hold that against me. I did it because I like people, not just to come down on them.

My great-grandfather was from Germany. He kept getting tickets for driving too slow. He would literally drive 25 mph on the interstate! He was the most laid back, coatious and methodical person in the world but, he would curse and scream and just explode after he got (yet another) ticket! It was really funny! He was/is/has been the only member of my family that I ever liked! I miss him.
