VIP is worth it for 2 reasons in my mind. 1. Proximity and 2. Space. The Proximity to Centeroo and the What Stage is the only aspect of VIP that is even CLOSE to being worth the ticket price. Having a guaranteed spot that close before you arrive is and should be the only thing worth the price tag. The size of the space they give you is phenomenal. The campsites are at least 4 to 5 times the size of the spaces in GA where it is packed in. We actually had more sapce than we knew what to do with. The VIP campground is spacious, quiet and clean. It is also close and crimefree. It is a breeze through security into the stages, and allows for a comfortable, carefree Bonnaroo experience, that puts the music first and the hassle and bigness of Bonnaroo second. A great GA experience is dependent on MANY MANY factors that are out of your control, whereas VIP allows you more control over these factors.
My experience in VIP this year was equal to and slightly better than last year (close bathrooms/showers!!), and I will be returning in 2008. My travelling companions, the lucky bastards, actually won the silent auction for the VIP tickets for 08. I'm so jealous. We are talking TOUR BUS for next year. I'm pumped. Bring on Roger Waters.
this is going to sound so bad to many folks, but i think the people you meet inside VIP are just a little nicer than the GA folks. Maybe that has to do with being clean and not totally exhausted all weekend? I dunno - but I had a better experience this year than last.
A tour bus sounds pretty freakin crazy - but for us, we decided the RV was overkill. There was one afternoon I took an AC nap, but honestly, I could have done without it and saved well over $1K.

I think it might just be that you were camped near me. I really am just that cool. And I never knew that I had a twin brother. I do get what you're saying about VIP. Not that there weren't really cool peeps in gen pop, but there were definately a lot less of the shady characters in VIP. Most of the people dropping that kind of coin on going to roo really were there for the music.

So I am a newbie around here and am looking to finally get up to Bonnaroo. I have never done the festival jaunt, but have hit hundreds of shows. I am almost certain I am doing VIP, but have a question that I didn't see on this or the other board.
For the actual show, is their seating for VIP or do they have a special area so we can get up front for the larger acts (headliners or main stages)? How does this work?
I was VIP last year and really don't think it was worth it. Yeah, it was closer, but everyone needs a little exercise :-). And that was really the only real benefit. I honestly think I missed out on a lot of the "Roo experience" by being VIP. I keep hearing all these great stories that I didn't experience. I'm going GA this year. The only thing I think I'll miss is the showers. But being dirty is fun

Yea but taking a dump in nice a/c bathrooms after your morning coffee is a whole lot better then those port a potties , and 2 or 3 showers a day really keep you going in the heat , also from what i read hear about all the shady people lurking around Ga and all the thefts..I have to say that I did not have one thing stolen, and we had 3 coolers outside our Motor home the whole time ... also , If you plan on getting "TOASTY" in centeroo its a 3 min walk ''HOME" , If you wanna get into centeroo without getting searched and bring in your own drinks you can, Just hide it as your walking through .I never had my backpack searched , We just poured our drinks into cups . All in all I dont think I could do Bonnaroo without going VIP.I might be spoiled, but those little extra perks just make it worth it ... And look No storing food , no cooking food , not getting ROBBED on a stale fly infested slice of pizza . and I was able to see and hear the main stage while at my site .....Its well worth the extra money ..
I agree with pretty much everything 'Vette says. After years of going to festies with hot, stinky, overflowing portos, those AC Bathroom trailers with flushing toilets are the way to go. And then there's this:

Honestly though, the portos weren't that bad. They always cleaned them constantly by where I was camped.
I didn't have a single thing stolen either.
All it takes is like $20.00 a week X's 52 weeks = $ 1,040.00 . add a few dollars and sell the otherone or split the cost with someone and its like $12 a week...

I think it's worth the cash, then again I have never stayed in GA.
Bonnaroo is a vacation for us, so spending the extra cash is not a big deal. Most people go to islands or resorts and spend much more then we do on the tickets, gas, camper, etc. If you are thinking of going, go... Along with other posters have said here, by the time you spend the money on food it can be a break even on the cash.
I just got to find a buddy who might want to take the trip up. My wife isn't a huge camping person, nor am I, but I won't mind when I wake up to music and a VIP experience.
I'm just waiting on a price and initial line up announcement. In the meantime, I will be hitting Langerado for two days to warm up.

Roo is our vacation too.. we leave early for the farm and stop places along the way , then after Roo we take a good 4 days just to unwind from the whole trip.. This year we might make a trip to New Orleans after roo and maybe to see some family in Tampa after that ..
I am in South Florida. I am just hoppin on I-75 with some friends and we purchased one day passes for Friday and Saturday. I'm not a big Phil Lesh fan so I won't feel too bad about missing Sunday. I actually was bummed that he (Ethan Schwartz) didn't bring back Wilco or the Lips or Ben harper for the fest.
But he did bring in some cutting edge indie for Sunday (Of Montreal, Minus the Bear, and The National) but I won't be catching them.
Really looking forward to Vampire Weekend, Ghostland Observatory, Brett Dennen, Built To Spill, and REM and The Roots.
One other very important benefit to VIP, you bypass those centeroo security checks. I could fly in to centeroo and grab a gyro and be back in my chair in 10 to 15 mins. Also, the 20 X 50 foot sites. I can't imagine roughing it in GA.
