this is such a cute thread.. and i have to laugh at the boys who stop by and throw their cents in.
im planning on the bathing suit top and a skirt or shorts. and wife beaters. lots and lots of em!!
i am also thinking about getting a nice wide brimmed hat.. for sun shelter. but dont know where.
and as for shoes.......... oh man. i barely have any choices just for regular days. i was going to bring flip flops only. im guessing thats a bad idea??
Flip Flops are a BAD IDEA!! I did that when I went for my first time in '05 (sadly I didnt find Inforoo or I would have been much better prepared) because I didnt really have anything else and it got very hard to walk around in the mud once it rained. The flips would stick in the mud and then my feet would keep moving = me falling and busting my a$$! Not to mention quite embarrassing!! One of my friends sacrificed his flip flops for Crocs and put them in the big pile... that was awesome Id love to see a picture of that! I wish I had done it then, but Im doing it now! I hope I have convinced you to invest in a pair!!

last year my date wore a bikini top and jeans shorts with the shorts unbottoned/unzipped - and of course the bikini bottoms under the shorts. it was sexy. I recommend it for any of the ladies who are confident enough to just walk around in a bikini. She said she was very comfortable, and she had pockets.
i'm going with long skirts, and tanks mostly...a few tee's, and shorts, PJ pants and a hoodie....and lots of extra underclothes...i like the boy-short undies....i'm doing crocs and/or tevas, and a pair of rain boots for shoes....oh and lots of bandanas....

I tried wearing shorts last year and they just stick to you with the heat - I was not comfortable in them. So the rest of the time I stuck with my strappy long hippie dresses and tanks and long hippie skirts. Nice thin cotton is the key. A hoodie or long sleeved shirt for the night time. I took jeans with me but never wore them.
Last year I wore my Birk sandals but I ended up with blisters and very sore feet, so this year I am going to try Crocs - but I will bring my Birks also.
I also wore a cheapo walmart fishing hat - that thing was the best purchase I made for Roo
Let's say I was making a super-cool hippie-chick wrap skirt. Would it be better to have it tie in front and overlap in the back or tie it in the back and have it overlap in the front?
.... and yes flip-flops are a bad idea, unless it's for just chillin' at the campsite.
Hmmm, I'm trying to figure out what to bring to wear, never having done this before. I'm hearing skirts over shorts so far. Which is cool, I was planing on bringing a couple of short skirts, but I live in shorts in the summer around here and I can't believe that it was too hot for shorts in June? I agree with the tanks and swim suits tho....but then I do live in the south I also live in sundresses in the summer, those do well on hot summer days when there isn't much breeze, and they usually have pockets. Question for those who've been there, done it: how many times a day do you change clothes on average? Like one outfit for day and one for night?

i advise everyone to bring a hat, even if you don't normally wear them!
i bought a cowboy (cowgirl, i guess!) hat last year on a whim, and second to my sandals, it was the best piece of clothing i brought. it kept my scalp, face and ears from getting sunburned, kept my dirty/wild hair hidden and kept my head nice and cool!
i'll be bringing basically the same kind of clothes i brought last year: lightweight capris, a billion tank tops, a billion pairs of undies, flowy skirts, 1 pair of jeans and 1 sweatshirt, 1 pair of shoes (which i never wore) and my chaco sandals. i also brought a pair of those under armour short shorts, which were really comfortable to wear under skirts and dresses

I got a really nice floppy hat at Wal-Mart before I went and that was a huge help. I usually rock the wife beater with skirt or gauchos. guachos can be ok if they are light weight. As for flip flops, I have worn them the past couple of years and I've been okay, but DO NOT wear them if it is going to rain! I made that mistake and ended up walking around Bonnaroo barefoot, it was slightly disgusting but added to the dirty hippie feel. This year I plan on bringing my Tevas and Crocs and definitely pjs to change into when i get back to camp. it's always nice to feel a little bit clean when you go to sleep. :-)
with tank tops. I will also bring a pair of jeans, a hoodie, bandanas (like alisa - that is all I did with my hair last year), no makeup - not even mascara. I will probably also bring a couple pairs of shorts. Last year I wore a skirt on Wedneday night - I was glad because it got cool but the bottom of it got soaks in the grass - setting up camp at 1 a.m.

I wore the same clothes all day and then added a long sleeved shirt of some kind over the tank top or sundress at night - it can get pretty chilly later on. You get dirty and sweaty but so does everyone else, so it doesn't matter
Oh and like Crazykitten said, wear a hat!! I HATE wearing hats or anything on my head but that thing made such a difference with that sun beating down.
As for make up - I just wear a little eye-liner and chapstick with SPF in it - in that heat any make-up isn't going to last long anyway.

ps Its amazing what hops and herb will do for makin you happy.
A couple of my linen skirts are long...will they get totally ruined at Roo as I walk around?
i wore a long skirt last year... it wasn't that bad, really. i mean, the rest of you is dirty anyways, unless you REALLY care about keeping it clean, in which case just leave it at home.
i ordered the mary jane crocs today and i cannot wait to wear them at roo. i wore flip flops last year and my feet got so nastyy.

so skirts vs. dresses? any chime ins? I was thinking i would just bring my dresses but I wore a skirt today and was just thinking it would be so much easier to mix and match with a skirt than to just have a dress with no real options with it
damn... i just realized how girly that is I really do need more girl friend cause really this is my only outlet

If I had enough dresses I would wear those every day - much cooler and much more comfortable. But I only have one that I really love I made 2 really pretty ones but they are cordorouy on the top and just a little too thick for the weather.

sigh... i wish i was crafty... karma... I just bought a new dress but payed way too much for it to dare bring it to roo and risk the mud or beer or whatever... though it is cotton so it might wash quite well... It has pockets so its tempting to bring it But i think i'll stick with my hippy-dippy ones I was just thinking with a skirt you can change up the shirt depending on the weather then at night just drop trow and put on a pair of jeans... but i guess you can just put a shirt on over a dress... I'm just really prone to the cold... I shiver like a malnourished chihuahua

Aww thanks - although really I am not crafty. I just could never afford the dresses being sold at all the shows, so my friend had one and between us we figured out how to make them ourselves. It took me a really long time to make them.... My favorite part is picking out the fabrics for the patchwork parts!! I am actually pretty clueless, but no zippers, no sleeves, no buttons and I can handle it
I also figured out how to make the patchwork, cross-over back apron tops - I used to make them for my daughter when she was little and put sunflowers and ladybugs and daisies on the front - she looked so cute in them.
Here is a link to some really cute stuff - it is a little pricey but this is the kind of stuff I made so anyone can do it with a little time and effort. www.peace-by-piece.com/
*Sigh* Very cute, I love sundresses, I could live in them all year long. I wish I could sew. But then again, maybe not. I probably wouldn't even if I could knowing how I am....I just have things I'd rather do I guess I'll just hope Old Navy or Banana Republic has some left when I get back around. Got a cute one last week really cheap at Old Navy, they had a couple more I wanted to try on but I didn't have time......

Old navy's dresses never fit me... they make me sad ... cause their stuff is always so cute... its what i get for being miniature in the breasticle region... wish i could say the same for my hips lol

Oh random... ok well not really it applies to the girly-ness of it all... but being a southerner i find that in the summer when the skirts and sun dresses are broken out of the closet my arms are about ten shades darker than my pasty pasty legs... I'm not one for tanning beds and from what I can tell the lotions just make you look like an oompa loompa ... any solutions? or products that you guys (correction, gals) have found helpful for the post-winter two-tone effect

although the tanning bed would probably obtain the best results... tanning your legs in the tanning bed takes forrrrrrrever, for some reason. i use jergens natural glow, it's subtle but it makes your "tan" look natural, and you build it up rather than turning orange after using it one time.
i work outside in california so i've learned my lesson about SPF and hats/head coverings- wear them. i also have a gnarly farmer's tan, but i'll be rockin the tanks regardless. i have a couple dresses that i'll bring, but other than that, i mainly stick to loose linen shorts... mmmhm. i hate crocs. usually if it rains, i'll just bust out my rubber field boots, but it is a good idea to wear tall socks with those suckers. are there advantages to crocs other than "comfy" and "easy to clean"? make-up-wise... i admit, i do like to have some coverage. but i don't mess around with foundation- i stick to tinted spf/moisturizer. i'm outside all day riding horses, so i have a few recommendations: philosophy makes a great peachy tinted spf 15, and aveda has a tinted moisturizer/spf 15 in a few different colors. remede makes a tinted spf 30. i've only worn those... but a sephora search will do you good. usually i sweat a lot (a lot), so i put on the tinted stuff first thing in the morning and re-apply regular non-tinted spf on breaks. they're a bit pricey, but totally worth it- you'll get a little coverage and you won't feel all melty. plus, the cheap-o stuff really didn't stay on in the hardcore sun sweating it out. yeah... i'll wear some of that stuff and waterproof mascara. i'm also bringing my favorite scarf.
