I figured this was the most appropriate place for this reminder.
"don't forget your birth control pills"
I was planning on taking my pills back to back to avoid the additional discomfort during roo. ie, skipping a cycle.
Has anyone else had experience doing this? I've heard of people doing it but this is the first time I've really felt the need to do it.
Roo is uncomfortable enough, I'm not about to add that to the mix.
(sorry if that's a touch TMI, but not many others to ask!)
i have a monophasic exactly for that purpose! first of all, make sure the pill you're taking will allow you to do this, according to my doctor triphasic pills will not work for this purpose
i felt a little bit of cramping, but other than that i had no spotting (talk about TMI) or any other issues to speak of! was kind of weird how easy it was ;D
here's a little blip from wikipedia regarding the different types of pills:
If the pill formulation is monophasic, it is possible to skip menstruation and still remain protected against conception by skipping the placebo pills and starting directly with the next packet. Attempting this with bi- or tri-phasic pill formulations carries an increased risk of breakthrough bleeding and may be undesirable. It will not, however, increase the risk of getting pregnant.
so apparently it will still work for the other two types of pills but you might have a little bit of bleeding, which imo is still better than full on!

When taking a triphasic pill you can take the pills (using two packs) several different ways depending on the length of time you want to delay your period.
To delay one week: Take the first pack as you normally would, phases 1,2,3, then take phase 3 from the second pack then take the placebos to have your period and begin a new pack. Save the other 2 phases of active pills for emergencies in case you lose of vomit a pill. Taking two phase 3s back to back keeps the hormone levels in weeks 3 and 4 of your cycle constant which gives you the best chance of avoiding irregular bleeding.

I don't know about United States but when I was on BC methods (Hubby had a Vasectomy after our last baby) TALK ABOUT TMI.... I'm sure he wants that advertised to all of us, anyhow, but before we started trying for the last baby I was on the depo provera SHOT. you only get the shot every 3 months but it stops the period alltogether. If someone is expecting their period at the time of Roo, and I know if it were me, I'd head straight to the doctor and ask for the shot. (That sounds so pathetic to do but I know if I were expecting "My Friend" to show up, I'd go get the shot JUST to stop the expected!!!) (Hope there are no doctors reading this message!!)
Second... I WILL NOT be wearing a bra, 32D or not... By the way, anyone know where I can buy good quality 32D bras? They just dont exist!
When I was a 34D and now as a 36D I swear by frederick's of Hollywood for bras. they have two styles I adore cuz they lift you to the heavens and don't look like they belong to granny and aren't so fancy they show through tee shirts. Oh, and around $30 for most.
tinyurl.com/4bq93 is a basic smooth one; I remove the cookies - don't really need them
tinyurl.com/2grveo same with this one, I remove the cookies. But I have the turquoise and it's very pretty.
I have friends who swear by the Gillian & O'Malley line at Target for lbras, but i personally haven't had any success.

I've heard this about the shot. After this Rx runs out (I've been on the pill for like 7 years), I'm going off of it. I've had migraines the last few years, usually before a cycle, and I am sick of it. I don't know if the shot will alleviate the headaches, but it's worth a look. I've avoided the shot because I am a total wuss with needles. I have an adrenaline type of reaction that sometimes makes me get pretty close to passing out. Even with things like novicaine. although I'm usually okay if I don't SEE the needle. It's genetic, I did it when I had my ears pierced at 8 before I even knew what was happening. Mom did the same thing when she was a kid.

I was on Depo for 4 years - loved it - got off it - had second child - went back to it - had nothing but problems - break thru - not fun when it is that time of the month for 3 weeks out of the month.
So - it goes either way - and also - the first shot is no guarantee - there are still alot of women who have a monthly cylce even with the shot

I was JUST talking about this same thing with a friend of mine. Her doctor said that she was going through withdrawal from the pill at the beginning of each placebo week. So she went on the 3 month at a time pill (not Seasonale, but something similar). But if you switch to a monophasic pill, you should be good with skipping all periods and avoiding the withdrawal period completely. Of course, check with your doctor about all of this, but there's even a new pill that says it's cool to skip all.
Ok since I was away at my thinggie across the country, I've missed posts etc.
Are we having a "Girly Thread" meetup?
At this point, I'm just putting together a full meetup schedule for myself made on wordpad and wanted to post it when I'm done. Did we firm up a time?
I personally think we should have a girly meetup at "Brazilian Girls" Any suggestions? or did we pick a time and place. Bommerang? Did we pick weeks ago? I can't remember if the date, time was firm.
There is a thread on it, check m directory.. I think we decided on the cold war kids...
Can I ask a question about birth control real quick, ladies?
I've been experiencing a lot of nausea for the past month and a half or so. I've noticed, however, that it is much less (almost gone completely) during that time of the month... Think it could be the pills? I've been on them for four years, just went off them for the first time this week.... My doctor says it's not likely it's from the pills, cause I've been on them so long, and it just now started, but its possible.
I was on the pill for years and then I started to get pukey like that, plus I would turn into a basketcase. I had to get off the pill. Hormonal changes suck, wait for the joys of pre-menopause! So that could be a reason, hormones are constantly shifting throughout your life. ask your doctor about a lower level estrogen in your BC pills.
wouldn't hurt to try a new type of pill, one with a different combination of hormones and see if that helps
I've also found that how I'm affected physically depends on how I'm doing emotionally. Like I get moodier when I'm in a relationship. Cramps are worse when I'm stressed. Is there anything else different in your life?
I was on depo for a few years. LOVED IT! never had any problems (or periods!) Then they started making ME go to the pharm to get it and take it to the office - too much of a pain for me, esp when the insurance stopped paying... So now I am on the nuvaring thing....it's pretty neat. You can do it like the new pills, start the new one as soon as you ditch the prior month and skip cycles. I like it as much as depo and I don't have to go to the Dr office for a shot each month! But I am lucky, I never had any of the break thru bleeding with any of it....
so it was for 1 period or 2 that you felt better during? if 2, i'd be much more likely to think it's because of the pill.
which one do you take?
Two months ago I got sick a few days after my period, and then it went away during the one i had this month...
I was on orthotricyclen lo... but i stopped taking that and got the nuva ring to start after roo...
I was totally psycho when I was on orthotricylen lo. I tried a couple other ones and then finally the ring last year. It's great - I felt so normal on it. And several of my friends are also on it now.
I scanned through this entire thread and was wondering if there was a definitive hairstyle one should adopt for the Roo? I have longish hair and I have no idea what to do with it. I hate tying it back every day because it's so fine and thin, it breaks easy. I've tried cornrows before but wondering if anyone had any alternate suggestions? Was thinking the bandana route might be the way to go...
Also I hear everyone on the bra thing, but my concern isn't so much sagging as it is sweating. Any suggestions - the girls are pretty big?
Skipping the pill is fine on both types of pills. I've done it a number of times without problem. Usually no breakthrough bleeding until the 2nd skip in a row.
5 more days and I still haven't picked out any clothes. Stupid me for being so self conscious.
