If so, I'm just curious what everyone does for their hair while at roo?
The first time I went, I had it braided wet and used moose and it kept the style all weekend without needing washed bc it was 2014 and not humid. 2015, it was so hot and my hair stayed sweaty and nasty, even with a shampoo everyday. I also tried dry shampoo and it didn't seem to help either. Also, I don't shower at the shower pods and my blow dryer had no way of working, even with a car charger with a wall socket. I have REALLY long hair.
If I can't figure something out for 2016, I planned on getting a ball cap and either doing a ponytail (which I hate how a ponytail looks on me) or do braided pigtails and hopefully the pigtails will be dried by late night and I will have an insane curl in my hair until I dance and get sweaty and it's gotta go back in a ponytail.
I just see all these photos of chicks with long hair thats perfect and straight at music festivals and I'm curious what I'm doing wrong???
I've tried looking cute at Bonnaroo and no matter what I do my hair usually ends up in a ponytail (which I also hate how a ponytail looks on me) but I try not to let it bother me. Usually those girls that actually look like their hair has been styled are not camping and have access to electricity. Just get a cute headband and throw it on your head and try not to care how you look. The cool thing about Bonnaroo is that no one cares if you smell, don't have makeup on, have sweaty hair, etc. We're all there to just have a good time! That being said it does bother me when I try to take pictures and I"m like "DEAR GOD! What is going on with my head?"
Glad I'm not the only one. And never thought about the access to electricity thing lol i forget some people roll like a rockstar or RV.
And honestly, I had lost a ton of weight before roo last year so I was feeling good about things until I got there and day 1 my blow dryer wouldn't work and I spent the whole weekend telling people "sorry i'm so gross" bc I didn't have a game plan. I just rocked the bun on top of my head (which looks worse than a ponytail on me lol).
You're right though. Thanks ladies for helping me out and reminding me that the few in the pictures aren't a normal bonnaroovian lol see yall in june with our crazy hair!
I brought a shower tent last year for the first time and it was so nice. The water from the sinks was freezing though and it was hard to stand it long enough to wash my hair. Someone (an angel, I'm pretty sure) at my camp gave me a full gallon of water and poked holes in the lid. My sister poured the water from it while I leaned forward and washed my hair. It was the cleanest my hair was all weekend and I didn't even need the whole gallon. It never stays clean though. I put hair stuff in it and let it dry the best I can but I always end up ponytailing it. It gets sweaty and crusty and knotted and there's nothing I can do about it. I shove a hat over it anyway to keep the sun out of my eyes. Just accept the grossness.

I feel like that is the most important thing no matter what advice we give you and what you try. Have you seen my hair down? I've got a butt-load of hair. Both long and thick. I do braids for as long as I can and if it gets too nasty, I throw it in a bun and forget about it. Like Linz, I hate my hair in a bun, but we've got to do what we've got to do! My hair is never down or cute at Roo!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Myself and my best friend kinda just made up our own thing for hair and it worked really well for us...we braided our bangs across the front and back to one side, and just threw the rest of our hair back into a messy bun or ponytail. Then we tied a folded up bandanna around our heads just behind the braid and occasionally would soak it in water to keep cool and such. It was pretty sturdy and stayed up well the whole day, and looked pretty cute too.

Well I just need to come camp by you so you can style my hair allllll weekend!
have any of you seen those "cape" looking vest / sweater type things that a lot of 20-something girls are wearing lately? Looks to me like something that would be cool on the farm if you could get a lightweight version

My hair is long and naturally wavy, so I usually straighten it before I leave my house and camp GA all weekend. I have lots of luck with dry shampoo for the roots if I want to keep it down somehow, but also helps with making the inevitable top knot look slightly less sweaty.
Curious as to whether anybody has tried out Hair Charmsies and how long they last. I got a knock-off version from Urban Outfitters on sale super cheap - thinking about adding them to my pre-town straightening of the hair regimen.
I don't know how girls where their hair down ever in the summer, much less at Bonnaroo. Too hot!
I've got short layers, somewhere between just past the shoulders and just above at any given point in the year. So my hair routine is always some sort of twist/braid to control the shortest layers, and into some sort of ponytail/pigtails to get it off my neck. That's it. I am a big fan of that headband twist around method mentioned earlier, but mainly for work or around town. It never seems to hold tight enough for me to trust it when I'm dancing or hooping at a show, but that might be because my hair is shorter and doesn't get wrapped around enough. It's a great do to dress up or down with different headbands and/or playing with bulk of your hair in the back or to one side.
I grow my hair out until I have 8+ inches to spare and then cut it and donate it to Locks of Love--takes two years. At Bonnaroo 2015 it was long and I wore it in two Heidi style braids--not a good look but it kept it out of my face and off my neck. But I get to cut it in May--hooray! So it will be short at 2016 'Roo.
I wore these. All day/night, everyday/night of Roo. Felt like a champ even on Sunday. Brought them to 3 days of WayHome fest as well. I cannot recommend them enough. My shoes have the reverse colour scheme as these, which are not the most pleasing to the eye. But they're mesh top and have a reflective strip all the way around. I'm in deep love.
My husband gets some like these at Payless and loves them. I think they may also be Champion.
My first year was 2014 too, and I have weirdo mixed kid hair, so I knew there were going to be hair probs. We had a shower tent with those shower bags and when I was so gross I couldn't stand it I washed my hair in there. It took 5 whole gallons of water to rinse it, but it worked. That year, Ii mostly wore it in French braids everyday.
Last year was pretty similar grossness wise, but I did this cute thing with a headband. You put it over all of your hair while its down, and wrap pieces around it toward the back of your head. In the back, you can tuck it all under, or put it in a low ponytail. I'll try to find a picture or a link to something similar.
Solidarity on the mixed kid hair probs. I have really long hair so I usually just do what my husband lovingly refers to as my "Mormon braid" or toss it up in a big top knot.

My two cents may not be valid in this as I'm an every four-ish day shampooer as it is, and my hair has basically trained itself to not get too disgusting in that span of time. The past two years I've washed my hair Thursday morning and given myself a really good blowout, then lived off dry shampoo for the rest of the weekend. Last year I did lots of pig tail french braids and high double buns. Both were still trendy and fest-y but kept everything off my neck and masked how dirty my hair was actually getting. Trying to wash my hair at roo always seemed far more of a hassle than it would actually be worth to me.
I'm also convinced that any picture of a girl looking clean/overly cute at a festival is definitely not camping in any way. There's just no way.

I have to wash my hair every day at roo, it just gets too crazy uncomfortable otherwise (I normally wash it once every 3-4 days, at home). It isn't too big of a pain if you go early to avoid the lines, and it's soooooo refreshing.

This really is the key. I was having to dye my hair ever few weeks because of washing it every other day. Now I wash it once a week, to maintain color for longer, and it doesn't even look dirty then. The more you wash your hair, the more oils your body will produce to compensate for the dryness caused by the frequent washing.

I wash once a week with Dr. Bronners tea tree oil soap then condition the ends with Wen Six Thirteen (Shea Moisture restorative conditioner works well too).
For Roo prep (based on a Wednesday arrival) I do this: Tuesday evening I wash my hair really well scrubbing excess oils off the crown of my head with the tea tree shampoo then let air dry. Once my hair is completely dry I straighten with my Chi flat iron adding Biosilk to the very ends if they need it. The biosilk will also help prevent frizziness through the weekend. Wrap hair in a tight top knot for bed and leave it up for the drive on Wednesday. Once camp is set up and it's nearing bed time I either leave it alone or comb it out and toss it back up for bed. By the time I start my day on Thursday my hair is still pretty, clean and ready to take a weekend of sweat, dust and whatever else. Braids are your friend through the weekend and so are bandanas or wide fabric headbands!
It really is best for your hair and scalp to start washing your hair less. Your hair may also be a completely different texture once you've let it do it's thing with less frequent washes.
I've never been a girly-girl when it comes to my nails but one of the girls at work has started selling Jamberries and I love those things! I can see at roo how they would help hide the dirt under your fingernails...

My friend used the Sally Hanson stick on thingies one year and they stayed on for the whole of Roo and hid all the dirt!! I may consider it, because I get obsessed with the amount of dirt under my nails..... If I can't see it then maybe it won't bother me so much!

I've used the Sally Hansen things at festivals, they also seem to keep my nails from breaking as much which is a huge issue for me at fests.
Anybody shop at Appleletics.com? I've won $20 off, won't use it soon and it expires on 2/14. Just use the code WINNER20. I know the first person that uses it will have success and honestly the way they've set it up it looks like multiple people could use it but I don't know.
I just bought my first Roo outfit for this year. Not that I needed anything. This is like the 4 dresses I bought last year & wore to Coachella, Shaky Knees, Bonnaroo, and Newport Folk Festival. For me, it's the perfect festie dress.
OK ladies, here's a question--do any of you go topless at roo? What do you do to keep the girls from burning? I know sunscreen is the quick answer but my lily-whites have never seen the light of day and unless it's SPF 3000 I don't think it would work....base tan at home? Not like I'm thinking of letting my yard-dogs off the leash but I'm curious...

I have never, but god knows if I was 20 years younger I would!! Last year I did no bra the whole weekend and it was so freeing!!
I would assume you would need to make sure to re-apply often? No clue
Burn that bra! Seriously! I haven't worn one in over 40 years. I think they were invented by Victorian men to make us miserable...as payback because they have to wear ties...;-)
I know I have said it in this thread before, but I despise being braless. It isn't comfortable for me and I wear one even if home alone. I don't take it off until the second I climb into bed! #teambra

I am also on #teambra. I have to have at least a little sumpin to keep them from flopping around.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.
