I got a blister on the back of my heel from my sanuks today, but if you walked as much as i did at sxsw over the past two days, anyone would have a bister. I am tired of walking.
Im bringing a pair of new balance sneakers (i have hideously wide feet) and my 10 eye doc martens. My girlfriend is bringing berks and 20 in tall rain boots (yes i will also be making fun of her unless it rains like crazy, then i'll be envious).
I do have to say about the docs though, I went to coventry and while other people were losing sandals and shoes in the mud I came out dirty and unscathed, all you really need to do is hose them off when you get home and make sure they dry out well. wang

new balance tennis shoes are the best for the day (keep the sun off the toes), strap sandles at night and bare feet in the morning. Please take my advice and bring some type of waterproof shoe or boot just in case. Back in 04 with the crazy down pours during the Dead it was ankle high mud.
I am buying a pair of Merrell's today. Those should be great for this, yeah?
You mean hiking boots? You know how hot it will be right? I couldn't even wear sneakers with socks in that heat, let alone hiking boots.........
Merrill makes all kinds of shoes. One of my professors had on a pair yesterday that looked like Tevas or Chacos or something. They're really comfy shoes and should do fine, to answer the original question.

im one of those girls who could totally wear heels and be comfortable at roo. not THOSE tall ones but my two inch pumps are more comfortable than ANY shoes for walking. i woldnt do it to look nice...but at every festival i go to i wish i was wearing my simple two inch heels which are SOOOOOO comfortable.
i agree with you that the ones who wear the tall shoes or the ones who have purses and makeup are doing it to be fashionable....but if you see a normal casually dressed person in short heels it could be that its for comfort. i know that sounds odd.....but the bottom of my feet hurt when i wear flat shoes for a very long time.
I looked at Sanuks this weekend...can't do it, they rank right up there with Crocs for me in terms of looks. I think I'll stick with my Birkenstock flip flops and maybe my Columbia closed toes for variety.
I made the mistake of wearing really cute and comfortable gladiator sandals at SXSW last week. While my feet didn't hurt, my legs felt like hell for several days and the inner part of both ankles was swollen and BRUISED for several days due to lack of support. So stupid.

I was standing behind a chick at a Rage ATM show and as the whole crowd is jumping her high heels were stabbing my flip flop wearing feet. I wanted to spit gum in her hair
omg NC thats terrible and very rude of her! i would never do that swear....i stick to my sanuks and my keens.
hey idio, did they have a lot of sales a REI?
i guess, they are a co-op. so they send coupons all the time for random discounts and member incentives. anything you buy as a member - you get 10% back at the end of the year to use to buy something else or even as cash - whatever you want.
they do a mean clearance section. i bought a pair of ahnu water shoes that had a retail price of $90 for $6. no, i didnt leave off the 0.
Sanuks...trust me, I've tried everything else, and a good pair of "sidewalk surfers" is absolutely the way to go. You dont want the flops, but the canvas "shoe" style. They're light, uber comfy, well vented (so you dont get swamp foot), dry out quick if they get wet, wont give you blisters, but also wont randomly fall off your foot either. And best of all, you dont have to be seen wearing Crocs in public!
In '07, my ballet style Crocs did just fine, but last year they mysteriously started rubbing my little toes raw. I decided to look at some Sanuks and wanted to try some on. Just to warn middle TN folks, the REI in Brentwood doesn't stock women's Sidewalk Surfers. I checked Binks, and they only had size 9's and only white Plain Jane's. Buckle had more sizes in stock, but they were all cold weather styles, but I got to try some on for sizing (and they were super, super nice). Ordered from Zappos, and got 'em in today. Here's hoping they work out better!
I'm loving mine so far, too! They're cuter than one would think.
I have wussy feet, though, and the top edge of the back of the shoe was hurting me. I go between squishing it down, making it a slip-on like the convertibles, and flipping the edge out so that soft stuff inside the back is the only thing making contact. That seems to work pretty good. I figure doing the slip-on thing will help soften up that area of the shoe, too, so maybe I can eventually wear them normally.
Update 4/21: It worked. They're getting pretty broken in now and are super comfy. No more rubbing. Most awesome shoe I've ever had.

I saw the hugest selection of Sanuk's at a store in port aransas today. I plan on getting some Kerouak size 9 before Bonnaroo. I have size 8 vagabonds right now.
my sanuks have never done me wrong, flip the back up when walking and then flip it down clog style for chilling, easy for on and off during the day, Im a big fan of bare feet once I get into centeroo
I love the five fingers, I'm buying a pair to take with me on my canuering trip this year....I know I've been on here before defending Chacos, but in the case of canuering, the just get to wet and heavy. I can't wait for the new shoes though, I think I'm going to get the "sprint" version, I like the extra strap over the foot. I will let everyone know how they are when I get them
I am currently contemplating my 3RD pair of Sanuk's as we speak. I am probably going to go with the "Last Straw" and have them nicely broken in before 'Roo. Link below...
