It won't ever be the same without him. If you go through it, probably 2 dozen people bought Sanuks within the first 2 months (7 pages of this thread). Who knows the total number in the 2 years since.
my girl and I got Sanuks because of Matt and this thread. They rock! My new favorite shoe. It might be a stretch, but with all the shoes he sold for Sanuks on here, maybe they might consider designing/naming a model after him? Just an idea.
I also bought new Sanuks because of Matt and this thread. And I have to eat my words because two days before Roo I was saying how I wasn't sure they were worth the money cause they seemed flimsy and not very well made. I take it back. Honestly, I can't imagine wearing any other shoes there. I wouldn't have made it if it weren't for the Sanuks. So thanks Matt.
I have to tell you that I have been amazed at the number of emails that I have received regarding Matt and his passing this last week. You and your community have been amazing at contacting me and apprising me of the situation and that we lost one of our best brand advocates as well as a really amazing guy.
Thank you for taking the time to email me, I am working right now on a blog as well as seeing if I can put together a donation in his honor. When I post the blog I will make sure we post a link on the forum, so be on the lookout (probably going up Friday).
I am deeply sorry for your loss, Matt was lucky to have such a great community. I took the time to read some of his posts on the forum, it is really sad to lose such a thoughtful and smiley guy. I love the idea of naming a shoe after him (perhaps his user name Carpe Diem?) If we get the opportunity to do that (and we are renaming a few pairs at this very moment), you can be sure we will let you know.
Best regards, Rachel

Dear Rachel or whom it might concern, My name is Bryan and I am a registered nurse living in Gainesville, FL. My girlfriend recently, upon my request, purchased a pair each of sidewalk surfers. I got the Kingston, forget what she ordered. We love these shoes! We ordered them for our first ever weekend of Bonnaroo(4 day music arts festival in Tennessee). To me the sidewalk surfers are a very comfortable shoe and yet very practical one. I heard about these shoes on a blog for Bonnaroo called Inforoo, under a thread title, "Best Shoes?", by a guy named Carpedm01, aka Matt Sloan. bonnaroo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=logistics&action=display&thread=5066 I have never met this man before. We have never talked, yet he sold me your shoe. carpedm01 recommend your sidewalk surfer as best Bonnaroo shoe. He turned a lot of people on to your product. He was honest about your product. He was your best salesman, free (maybe he did work for you, I do not know). "... And best of all, you don't have to be seen wearing Crocs in public!" was the line that got me. You should read this thread. He was your company's personal spokesperson to the on-line Bonnaroo community. Matt died over the weekend at Bonnaroo. Heat exhaustion. report said 108 degree core body temp. So sad, they say a Tragedy touches many. As far as I know, Matt and I have never encountered, but this story has touched me. You may already know about this. If so, I am excited to see the new 2011 CARPED01 sidewalk surfers! In memory of Matt. I bet they will be awesome! I will buy a pair. I know a shoe in name of Matt might be difficult, but think about it.
Keep rock'n good footwear.
one of your newest customers,
SCROG
Come on everyone e-mail, Rachel Gross <Rachel@sanuk.com> at Sanuks, and lets get those 2011 Carpe Deim orders in!

I never jumped on the Sanuk bandwagon, and I've always worn samba type shoes. But next year, a pair of Sanuk's will be on my feet all weekend.
This year, I rocked a sweet pair of Diesel Solar shoes. They were so damn comfortable, and held up extremely well. The leather is pre-worn, so they look the same... just with a healthy layer of farm dust. Highly recommend them to everyone!
before roo in '08 i got a $15 pair of some sketchers flip flops. They have an all cloth design on top and thick-ass padding on the bottom. I've worn them every day I possibly could since then including 3 Bonnaroos and they still feel new. If yall ever see them get a pair and you will not regret it!
Edit: They finally broke. Now I'm waiting till october to snag my new sanuk carpe dm's

How do the sizes run? If I wear a size 10.5 shoe and my wife wears a size 5 what size sanuks do we order? Anyone who ordered a pair and could let me know how the sizing runs would be great. Thanks
sanuks are easy to hose off. you can totally get them dirty and wash them. they are fairly thin and dry fairly quickly too.
if you cannot return the sanuks that are too small try this. take a straight razor or sharp knife and put some tiny cuts in the elastic part that makes the shoe fit. then put a couple of tiny cuts on each side of the ankle area. the shoes are already distressed and it doesnt make them look bad - actually its sorta cute. they wont rip out more as long as you make small cuts with a very sharp knife. if you are concerned about them ripping out just take a few stitches around the area to seal it. i did this to mine and now they fit PERFECTLY. if you cant fix them then you might try selling them on ebay.
my roommate bought them off me & she'll be wearing them to Roo. I'm gunna have to order another pair soon.. and one size bigger.
what sizedid you get? and did you get your size and they were just to small? i'm thinking about ordering a pair but i'm not sure about sizes online since you can't try them on.
Is it possible to find them in a store and try them on and then order them cheaper online?? Or are they not really in stores?
i've seen them in stores before. they have them at journey's (usually in a mall) and surf shops. but they sell them on racks instad of in a shoe box like they do with flip flps so idk if you can really try them on.

As far as concerns regarding the sizing of Sanuks, all i can say is that I wear a size 13 shoe, ordered a size 13 sanuk and it fits perfectly. They seeme to fit true to size.
I was sayin that more as a suggestion not for personal needs... cause someone was sayin they weren't sure about what size to order, so they should go to a store near them that has them. Thats what I was thinkin of doin for Vibram Fivefingers or Tevas or somethin.

Dude. Sanuks. Are. AMAZING.
Seriously. I brought 3 pairs of shoes with me last time. Ended up buying a pair of sanuks on the second day. And believe me, I saw a show for every time slot, no lie. So needless to say, I did a LOT of standing and walking in them. Im still wearing them. Had em for 2 years now. You won't be dissapointed. Oh, and the ladies dig em.
i'm going for the first time next year and i think i'm going to buy a pair of toms specifically for it. i'm definitely going to look into a pair of crocs too!

I'd really look at the Sanuks over the Tom's and I had a pair of Crocs but after getting my Carpe DM's - I won't be wearing Crocs this year.

Got my first pair of Sanuks this past summer and I fell in love. I'm usually an avid flip flop wearer but I can honestly say I wore my side walk surfers ten times more than my flip flops. What am I asking for for Christmas??? A new pair of Sanuks and a ticket to Bonnaroo :]
Sanuks are awesome, as well as tennis shoes. You shouldn't need any other shoes, unless you have a pair of Danners to deal with mud (don't get rubber mud boots imo, they get way too hot in the sun and don't breathe which can lead to foot rot...)
