All is good with the barefootin', until the great Port-O Monster rears his ugly head.
Yup. I have thought about it too some, but there is always a few spots I venture through in Centeroo where I feel so much better having something protecting my feet.
I went with running shoes last year which was fine but I wanna go bare foot this year. Bad idea?
I went barefoot for about 2 days my first Roo. It was ok until I realized how much of my time was spent worrying about what I was stepping on or where I would step next. I wouldnt suggest going barefoot full-time, but I know that it is liberating to be able to be barefoot at times.

Personally. I hate crocs they ruin the arch in your feet and they are terrible looking no matter what you do to them. My personal choice for not just roo but any concert would be thick soled canvas shoes.
Fellas, I saw Sanuks at Ross for 16 bucks each. They only had men's size 11 and little boy sizes. Just thought I'd give you a heads up!
Thanks! I went to Ross in Murfreesboro, TN and bought these.
www.sanuk.com/mens-standard-sidewalk-surfers/SMF1060,default,pd.html?dwvar_SMF1060_color=CHO&start=1&cgid=mens-sidewalk-surfers They have a size 9(green), 10(brown), and 11(green) left! They were $22.00 before tax.
i feel like the kind of shoes you were are very specific from people to people. what feels good always depends on the shape of your foot.
my two pieces of advice are:
1. closed toe shoes. i bring a pair of flippy floppies to wear around camp and for an hour or so maybe at a show late at night when my feet are super tired and need to breathe, but for the most part i find closed toe shoes to be the best. your toes don't get stepped on as much and it keeps them cleaner and more comfortable IMO.
2. bring MULTIPLE pairs of shoes. over my years of festivaling i've found out very quickly that even if i wear my most comfortable shoes more than 2 days in a row, my feet are not going to be happy. i usually bring 4 or 5 pairs of closed toe shoes and one pair of sandals. i'm sure that seems like a lot, but if my feet are grumpy, i will be too.
I just want to buck the whole Sanuk obsession for a second and say that I LOVE water shoes at Roo. They're well ventilated so your feet stay cool and don't get sweaty...they're lightweight, and most of all, comfortable.
I just ordered these. They're cheaper than Sanuks and while i've never worn Sanuks I would highly recommend water shoes as long as they have a thick enough sole.

Just bought a new pair of sanuks because my old ones are officially worn through the bottoms. Hopefully these ones will treat me as well as my last pair did at roo.
Last year around April or May, I was in the local REI store with a gift card wondering.. 'what can I buy with this that will make me very happy'. We'll I found these shoes made by Sanuk and called Carpe DM. I put them on my feet and basically had a foot organism. I also read this cool story about this guy that loved wearing this brand of shoe, unfortunately passed away and these were made in his honor. I thought it was a very touching good karma story and the shoes were super comfortable, so I bought them with my gift card and a little cash. Last year, those things went with me everywhere... Bonnaroo, beaches, malls, lollapalooza, etc. I actually called them my "fun feet" because they made my feet so quacking happy all the time I never wanted to take them off. I also always felt something was special about those shoes but I could never explain it.
Then trolling as usual on inforoo today preparing for my annual voyage wondering when I’ll get my tickets, I found this thread: Rae Gross from Sanuk needs our help. As I read through the original post I saw Matt’s story and instantly thought about my “fun feet”, ran to my room and noticed these are the shoes dedicated to a fellow ‘rooer that tragically passed away in 2010. I’ve been reading about this dude for a couple hours and feel like we would have got along real well. I think it’s ironic that I found the shoes that were dedicated to a fellow ‘rooer. What is meant to be will be. With all this being said, Sanuk Carpe DM will forever and always be my Bonnaroo shoe of choice and I’m glad I finally found out why.
RIP Matt Sloan. I would have loved to share a cookie with you.
Peace and love to all of you. Stay safe, drink water and have a good time this year!!
Got my Sanuks in the mail yesterday. Got to confess, I think they're totally overrated. Definitely not the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn. Wear whatever is most comfortable to you normally.

I wouldn't give up on them. Mine are much better after a lot of wear than they were originally. They need a little breaking in before they are at their best. But some people just don't like them.

This was always my advice until I found the Sanuk yoga-mat flip flops. I wore them all day everyday at Hangout and never had an issue. I had my birks, CarpeDMs, cheap flips, and fraidy cats with me and none of them were needed!
Whenever I am with friends, I always make them try on/ feel them. I am in love.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Sanuks for me are no good. Crocs, Birkenstocks (super old worn out but completely mold to my feet) and Chacos got me through last year. Will repeat this year

Bare foot/exposed toes are an overall bad idea.....go with comfortable running shoes....this way, if someone steps on your feet in a tent, it doesnt hurt as much.......
Okay, I'm late to the game but wanna try and have some comfortable footwear this year. I'm not a sneakers kinda fella (although they are my current go to, I just hate 'em), but my boat shoes just never really cut it at The Farm. I got some big ol' Hobbit feet too. Any quick suggestions? I'm hearin' good things about Sanuks, and leanin' that way, but damn are they expensive and hard to come by in my size right now!

If you're not a sneakers guy, and want to spend less than Sanuks, I'd try some Crocs. Yeah, they look like footwear for the mentally handicapped, but the soles are very similar to the Sanuks. Personally, I've just had the epiphany recently that I need arch support for my feet to be really comfortable. My friend got some Fila skeletoes, and says they're awesome, and they're on sale at Kohl's around here. Might try those also. Birkenstocks rock, but they're definitely not cheap, but you may see them on sale somewhere.

All this rain talk made me finally break down and go get boots. Luckily I found a pair on clearance at Target for $5!!! You can't beat that.
My last 3 Roos I wore my regular flip flops due to the fact that I practically live in them year-round, even in the winter. This year I decided to try something with a little more support and bought some Tevas. I'll also be bringing my flops and an old pair of running shoes.
Sanuks are way comfy: once you break them in a bit, they stretch so if you're inbetween sizes and will wear them strickly sans socks, buy the next size down and wear them from today til Roo and you'll be lovin life! Keep in mind, your feet also need breaking in, to really, any new shoe/boot. I have two pairs of sanuks now: one hemp size 9 for wearing with socks, so comfy, and now a pr. of size 8 Hey Jute's, awesome both. Thinking I'll bring the lightweight old pair of hikers/boots for the rain, incase, did last year, never used 'em but, wore them out of there to the airport/shuttle while packing up last year predawn, by then my sneaks (salomon trail runners) were semi-trashed/filthy. Peace out!
Probably going to bring one of my 9 pairs of TOMS, preferably the ones that are ripped to shreds already. My old birks. And my black tennis shoes I use for mud races.
I don't own a single pair of flip flops, because I cannot stand that thong between my toes. But if they're a must for fountain play, etc. maybe I should get a cheap pair? How does this list sound to you vets?
Walmart has canvas shoes with a croc-like sole for $18. They're closer in appearance to a pair of toms or chucks than sanuks and are extremely comfortable
Thanks for the advice guys! Just got some Sanuk Carpe DMs and they should be arriving either monday or tuesday... Hoping that's enough time for them to be broken in!

I've got two pair and both were awesome from day one. No worries on breaking em in.
