rope sandals. Get the ones with 'a little more soul' or else everytime you walk through a mud puddle/damp grass they'll turn into sloppy sludge and mildew (people don't appreciate that) the soles really are excellent. I have the traditional JC sandals, theyre great. They are the greatest festy shoes.
I was worried about blisters or harshness of the rope, none of that, super kind to your feet.
They're like $40 and you cannot go wrong. Everything you love about chacos (full foot grippage so you can run in them, ect) and the convenience and comfort of a traditional sandal (easy to put on and off, lightweight)......plus everytime I wear them I make a new friend out of someone who digs em.
Inside Centeroo I never have a problem. Walking around the campgrounds can be a bit painful with the rocky paths. I always have a pair of flip flops in my bag
Do Sanuk's usually run true in the size? I wear a 12 in Nike, adidas, etc...
Pretty much so. My husband wears a 10 in everything, & a 10 in Sanuks fits him just fine. I wear an 8 1/2, so I size down to an 8. I tried a 9 once & it was way too big.
I got mine yesterday and immediately put them on. I ordered the size I usually wear and they are perfect and OH SO comfy! Now my guy is jealous and wants a pari

Hey guys, just got my Sanuk Carpe DM's and I dig them......except I'm a 10 1/2 and these shoes are a size 11 and they are just a tad too big. Would washing them in hot water shrink them down a little?

Yes. Mine shrink each time I wash them. But once I've worn them 1/2 dozen times, or walk through water with them they stretch back out, naturally.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

I'm a 10 1/2 too and go with the 10 because they are so comfortable that they don't squoosh your feet. Try the hot water wash. It will probably help.
This has prob been said but nothing beats a good pair of socks (if your wearing them). Smartwool makes some great low cut wool socks that I used for Roo (when I was wearing my shoes instead of chacos). Would highly recommend.
This year will be my first Roo and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about Vans (I didn't read from the beginning, so sorry if it's been conquered before). I've got an old, beat up pair of authentics and was wondering if it was a good or bad idea to rock them.

As long as they are comfortable for you to be on your feet for a long time in, then you should be fine. I would recommend another pair of shoes or sandals, though. It helps your feet out if you're able to switch it up a little. I always wore a pair of flip flops around camp in the earlier part of the days and two different pairs of shoes I wore when we left for the day. Truth be told, there's only so much you can do. By the end of it all, you will be sore one way or another. And it's completely worth it.

All of the shoes I brought last year worked out really well except my Teva Mush sandals- they're really comfy as everyone here promised they would be, but I stupidly wore them to see Major Lazer and my poor toes got stomped on :/ My old, beat-up Toms, a pair of ankle boots and my rain boots all served me very well, though.
Just wondering, I haven't been through the entire thread (it's very long), but has anyone ever thought of wearing like, Dr. Scholl's inserts? In all my pre-Roo researching that I did I never saw anything about gel inserts. How come? Bad experiences? I've honestly never worn them, so I don't know if they are bad in general.
I wear a pair of old leather boots with sherling interior, sort of like Frye Harness boots. Waterproof them, they have been to half a dozen festivals and do me well. Each year I replace the insoles with Kiwi work boot ones for women (can find at Target, Walmart, etc.). The sherling keeps my legs cool, the insoles really do help (get the kind you can cut to a custom fit), and the boots work rain, shine, dust, and mud. Think they also look cute with dresses and denim cutoffs.
This is my plan for this year as well, boots and inserts. I'm super allergic to the dust so I'm taking my trusty Frye knockoffs so my feet and ankles are protected. Got em at Target two years ago and they're hands down THE BEST boots I've ever owned. Highly recommended...

I wear pretty much nothing but Toms when I'm not at work. For my feet they are surprisingly comfy and I love how they are vegan footwear! I'll be breaking out a new pair for Roo most likely... I don't do tennis shoes and sandals tend to hurt my feet.
I wore my old, broken-in Toms for a late night show last year and got pretty bad blisters on my heel. But Urban Outfitters has these cotton mary janes that are wonderful with a pair of inserts. I wore those everyday (except that one night) and my feet didn't hurt once! I'll definitely be wearing them again this year. www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=17651514&parentid=WOMENS_SHOES

Alright, alright... I caved in after all the peer pressure and ordered a pair of Sanuk Sidewalk Surfers from Amazon, Kyoto Dean in brown.. I've never been too big on sandals, and I refuse to wear flip-flops especially. I also have never been a fan of Sanuk styling, as they tend to look like some sort of odd beatnick slipper to me. Even when I opened the box (less than an hour ago), I wasn't sure I could deal with them. Then they seemed a bit hard to get on and I questioned whether they run small. But after a few minutes my thoughts are that I might never take them off! No mileage on them yet, but they are crazy comfortable right now.
How do Sanuks rate as far as durability and longevity? I really hope this hold up, and I will definitely be wearing them into Roo. I'll probably bring my adidas Kanadias as well - decently breathable, fairly light trail running shoe, wore them last year, I think, though the weather was relatively cool and dang near perfect in my book. Open-toe sandals are a no-go for me. Tried them in 2011, hated them and the constant barrage of stones they let in, not to mention having absolutely filthy feet covered in dust. And I'll bring some rubber muck boots I guess, just in case we have a mudfest.
Thanks for the numerous recommendations, folks. Finding a conservative looking pair for $30 on Amazon tipped the buyability scale to the "buy" side. If you're a cheapass, er, "thrifty" like me, hunt down a deal and give them a try. Oh, and mine seem to be pretty true to size, since I can generally wear either a 10.5, sometimes 11, and these 11's are just right.
i like minimal shoes, but you need a hefty sole, there is some gravel between big stages and my fingeroos were not enough support have something light, that will dry out fast and have a firm sole for gravel i take it off for the shows shoes, that is mostly just the shoes
