I only took my Teva sandals last year and survived with no blisters. However, my tan lines were a little funky for awhile. Also, by the end of the day, the lack of support/cushion made my feet and legs so sore each night. They were easy to clean off though after that Kanye mud pit I stepped in. Maybe this year I'll try Teva's during the day, and better supporting shoes at night to dance longer.
I wore a pair of the Pegasus 3 last year and they where by far the best show i have ever worn to the farm. This year im taking these as well. Built for running but if you need a pair to stand on for four days at a music festival where youll be walking a whole lot and dancing till god knows when, these are for you.
Sanuks. I love the comfort and breathablity. They can easily be kicked off to go barefoot if wanted (I do this once we get a spot at a stage).
This is what I wore my first year, and it did not go well. My feet were swollen and sore all weekend. For general use, they are awesome. But in my case, the marathon-level walking and standing and frollicking and so forth need something a little more supportive. I just use old tennis shoes now, and never have any problems.
It may have just been a fluke, or me pushing my body too hard, but I figured I'd give my experience. For the record, I have two pairs and they are the most comfortable shoes I own, for day to day general use. If you're a more relaxed festival-goer they are probably just fine.

I am relaxed. Normally throw down a blanket towards the back where we can kick off the shoes completely and either lay down or have plenty of room to dance. Though we do stay out and dance at night. I have never had comfort issues with sanuks. The even worked great as my shoes when I went to Transylvania and climbed up and down thousands of stone stairs over a week period. Definitely the most comfortable shoes I've ever had.

Anybody ever wear Minnetonka moccasin ankle boots? The ones with the nubbly sole and squishy insole, not the ones with the thin crepe rubber soles. I need something to cover my ankles (bonnarash) and something with enough squish that my feet don't ache from standing. My harness boots were fine for walking last time but the hard leather soles left me in agony from standing. Minnetonkas seem like they'd have a nice split of coverage, tread, and squish...
So if you look at Bonnaroo fashion on Pinterest, all you see is girls in ankle high boots. Are these girls serious??? Other than rain boots, I haven't even considered boots for Roo. Am I missing some vital info on wearing boots or are they just slaves to fashion?
For me, its all boots, all the time at Roo due to the dreaded Bonnarash (allergic reaction around the ankles that some of us get from...something). It cut my first Roo short by a full day because I was just in agony and my ankles swelled like I'd stepped in a wasp nest. I had to wrap my legs in gauze and hydrocortisone for a full week afterward.
I don't find boots all that hot if you wear wicking socks with them.

This! I usually wear some sort of short boot whenever I'm planning on heading into centeroo. The only time I don't is when we are sitting around at camp. I just feel so much more comfortable walking through the dust and the crud and whatever happens to be on the ground in short boots (mainly Minnetonkas - which I think are very comfortable). Also - I think they are a life saver at night when you can't see what is on the ground and when it gets chilly!

I didn't see your post when I replied and quoted you in the other comment. I wear Minnetonkas the entire time. I have a couple of go-to pairs that I have had for years and some that have made the trip to Bonnaroo for 5 years now (and are holding up great). I would get some and wear them around a little before Bonnaroo - I've had one pair that seems to give me trouble and need to be broken in. The more you wear them the more comfortable they become. They run pretty true to size. Here are some of my favorites:

Oh wow, awesome!!! Thanks for the experience, I really appreciate it... I haven't owned Minnetonkas since I had the beaded toe mocs as a little kid The last ones were exactly the pair I've had my eye on!

This helps me out so much. My allergies are very sever and I don't want to get the bonnarash I have heard so much about. I am usually a chuck/flip flop/rainboot girl at fests depending on the weather, but wasn't sure what to do about Bonnaroo. I was actually eyeing the middle pair that you posted. I think I am going to go ahead and order them, so I can break them in now.

My first year I wore just a basic pair of flat skater-like shoes. They were alright for the weekend but were pretty much already destroyed and ended throwing them away after. Last year I wore my old pair of Nike AirMax shoes. Best decision. Super comfortable and like the name of the shoe, they allow a good deal of air to flow through so my feet were never hot. If you have an old pair, its ideal. But buying a new pair isn't worth it for them to get ruined at roo.
Tevas vs. Sanuk??? I'm looking to buy some sandals/warm weather shoes soon because I pretty much wear my moccasins everyday so it may take me all four months to get them broken in hahaha. I'm not about to ruin my weekend that I spent all that money on because of something as simple as shoes!
The sidewalk surfer style of Sanuk's have always worked for me. Very comfortable and very breathable. The only issue is they are absolutely not moisture resistant and if you step in a puddle or mud it will be like you weren't wearing shoes (but if this kind of thing bothers you then a music festival is the wrong place to go). I throw them in the wash when I get home and let air dry and they are perfect. I normally bring 2 pairs in case one gets to trashed. I would take the comfort and ease of them any day over a pair of boots that can't breath and can't be kicked off instantly. Most of my friends wear either sandals or just some tennis shoes.
yougoghoul and mizvalentine I went to a garage sale this weekend, and they just so happened to have the shoes we were talking about in my size for $1!!! So I am now set. Oh and they are so comfortable!
Zulily has Tevas right now for close to half off. I just ordered my husband a pair. This is our first year on the farm and I have been doing my research on which shoe seems the best. We decided to try Tevas. Do they need broke in?
Best shoes would definitely be Tevas, Chacos, Crocs, or Sanuks! Tevas, Chacos, and Sanuks are all super comfy. Crocs are comfy too, and help out SO much if it rains! It's also always smart to bring a pair of tennis shoes too. (Sometimes I like to just go barefoot)
I've only ever worn basic tennis shoes, but I've never had any problems with sore feet/legs or blisters.
My friend that goes with me attempted several shoes last year...including flip flops, moccasins, and boots, before finally settling on tennis shoes by Sunday, too. She was always complaining of sore feet/calves. Not sure if it's just because I spend all day on my feet and she doesn't or if shoe choice was a factor, or a combination of both. It was worth mentioning.
If you're going the tennis shoe route, make sure you take way more socks than you think you'll need! I only took a couple extra pairs my first year and regretted it. But I'm weird about clean, dry feet, so perhaps that's just me.

Yes, absolutely! I try not to over pack too ridiculously much, but I always bring extra socks. I can take being dirty and sweaty for days, but wet, dusty, dirty or muddy feet just won't do. After a day in the sun a change of socks goes well with a baby wipe bath before regrouping for evening hijinks. And ditto about being on your feet a lot normally - I've gotten blisters at Roo before due to soaked shoes and poor shoe choices, but those of us who are on our feet at work all the time tolerate the walking and standing much better than those who aren't.
If I make it this year I'll probably mainly wear a pair of Adidas hiking shoes that I may marry if any state legalizes that sort of monkey business, and also bring Sanuks and waterproof hiking boots and/or muck boots, just in case. Bringing rubber muck boots anywhere is a pretty good way to prevent mud - I haven't needed them once since I started keeping a pair in my trunk a few years ago!
I haven't been keeping tabs on this thread, but I had an idea recently... I'm tempted to get some insoles and use them at Roo, especially when wearing sneakers. I'm looking at several on Amazon with good reviews. Figured I'd throw the idea out there for others to consider.

Guys I wear these to every fest and they offer superior support and flexibility. You'll feel like you're walking lighter, almost as if gravity doesn't even matter.
