Best: 1. The Mars Volta (need i say more?) 2. Ray Lamontage (this man's voice is amazing) 3. The Secret Machines (goddamm these guys rock) 4. Jack Johnson (in the rain, people climbing trees, everyone singing along....so sweet)
Worst: 1. Widespread Panic (two nights too many, not a big fan...sorry) 2. De La Soul (personal reasons.....i shoulda just went to bed.....lol)
Overall, it is pretty darn hard to pick best or worst, it is all in all just a surreal expierience...
Did ANYONE?? catch alison krauss & union station? i missed her last year and it makes me very sad
We caught it. It was okay, but she/they didn't play any of the songs I liked and wanted to hear. She did a lot of showcasing individual band members rather than just playing the much-loved basics.

The Best: 1. Ray Lamontagne (unbelievable energy in the air) 2. Tea Leaf Green (played like their lives depended upon it) 3. Panic - Saturday (Warren Haynes and "Guilded Splinters")
The Worst: 1. Trey - (can't believe I'm typing it) 2. Modest Mouse - (boring) 3. Mars Volta - (I know they've got a big following on inforoo, but I just didn't get it. Maybe I expected too much.)

THe top 3 is hard, i really liked all the shows i stayed for, and for the bottom 3 that also makes it hard, but here goes. #1 - Mars Volta - Without a doubt, i had the highest expectations for that show, and they came through big time. #2 - Saul Williams - If i wouldnt've been camping for mars volta i wouldv missed this show, and im very glad i didnt. His passion was awesome, good intro for mars volta, and i really liked the heavy beats. #3 - The Word - I was a little disapointed before the roo that robert randolph wasnt playing with his band, and i hadnt really heard any of the word, just that they were good. THeres was no way i was missing rr, but they were so good i stayed for the whole thing. My favorite part of the show was the electric wasboard.
Now for the worse, this werent bad at all, just not as good. #1 - All the headliners - I was disapointed by the lack of quality headliners, although i suppose a lot liked widespread, definatly not enough for 2 nights though. #2 - Missing Benevento/Russo Duo - I heard great things about this show, and wanted to go, but I'm glad i stayed for the headhunters. #3 - The begining of Trey - It was so weak that i just decided to go to sleep instead, wish i wouldv went to secret machines in the first place.
i think the best show of the weekend was j5 dave was a close second and john butlers set was great although i didnt see all of it its one of my favorite shows to listen to on cd and i have to cheat with a 4th and say mars volta was incredible...it was my first time seeing them and i was blown away...i loved it when they finally came out and the power went out again ..he said "god just took a big shiit on us......ya god shiitss too.... how do you think we got here?" that was great
i thought mmj was not very good either of the last 2 years and dont understand why they are back for a third time in a row, im glad to hear that some other people were underwhelmed by them also as i have taken heat for not thinking it was a great show and was beginning to think i was crazy or something.... i thought everything on the second stage was a letown except for j5... i just think that the sound sucks at that stage... jack johnson and kings of leons sound was awful where we were sitting..but if i had to single out a letdown for number 2 it would have been trey third i would say the widespread double headliner... i love wsp i just wish they would have only headlined one night...maybe still have 2 sets but make one a latenight or something

ya i missed alo because things took effect a little sooner then expected and we never made it....ended up just sitting and people watching and smoking while off in anothe world...this year i will not be making the same mistake i will eat my goodies at the gate to centerroo as opposed to when everyone at camp says they are ready to leave but it takes another 40 minutes to leave

Best: 1.) Secert Machines 2.) Modest Mouse (i'm a huge fan...i guess everyone was sad they got the radio song out of the way too soon. everyone around me (right up front) was really into it) 3.) The Frames
Worst: 1.) Mars Volta (biggest disapointment...being late then way too gimmickish) 2.) Joss Stone 3.) Umphrey's Mcgee (also i was very excited to see them after all the hype....what a let down )
well to each their own.... but to call mars volta gimmickish?? while talking up modest mouse seems odd... i would guess your trying to insite flaming but maybe not...i guess im a long way from understanding the tastes of 1984ers(boy oh boy are things changing at roo) my son is a 1996er and he can recognize decent innovative music like the mars volta and umphreys over the same recycled radio/mtv pop sound modest mouse and some other recent roo acts throw out there
by the way i think people were more upset about the radio tunes being at roo period and less about the timing of them in the set

ha...it amazes me the hate that Modest Mouse inspires. As if half the indie scene right now doesn't rip a page straight out of their early stuff. Granted Ian Brock's a notorious asshole, but Modest Mouse is a great studio band. Even Ugly Casanova was a worthwhile side project. One car commercial and hit song, and suddenly they're everybody's favorite whipping boy. I don't get it, but then I don't get why Coldplay is huge and the Frames aren't, so what do I know?
mars volta on the other hand, meh. don't get it. don't hate it. i just prefer Trail of the Dead for my emo psych rock fix. i think it's really hard for a band like that to overcome the baggage of expectation resulting from the hype of coming from such a popular cult group.

See Keith, it's this kind of crap you really don't need to stoop to....first off, Modest Mouse has been making great music for a decade now. Yes, Float On was on the radio ALL THE TIME. But up until that one song, Modest Mouse has been about as far from the MTV pop sound as you can get. Either you know their music and just can't recognize that, or you don't know their music and you're making an ignorant statement. The fact that you implied they were "gimmickish" in an earlier post leads me to believe the latter is true.
I know you'll say it was a joke, but the remark about your 9 year old is not funny and IMO was solely meant to be insulting. Either step up your game and at least make us laugh while you talk smack, or just stop being an ass.
i didnt reference modest mouse as gimmickish....it seems that some people are habitual misunderstanders....or just arent reading a thrread but cherry picking certain quotes..... i said that i didnt understand how you could reference mars volta as gimmickish and then talk up modest mouse... the previous poster used the word to describe volta, i didnt say anyone was gimmickish (i would have used a real word)... he also had 1984 in his name which is why i referenced my sons ability to recognize a band with a popular radio sound that has been on the radio under various different names for what seems like forever versus a band such as mars volta that is doing something new...a low blow? possibly. but not any lower, uneducated or annoying then calling mars volta gimmickish
deathreau its this kind of crap that you dont need to stoop to...either read a thread and find out who is implying what or dont comment and please try to quit misquoting me and rearranigng what i say just to be argumentative and make it look as though im hating on a wide and diverse group of people

Best: 1. Allman Brothers - They opened with Mt. Jam my fav Allmans song and during the Bands' "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", i was standing in the feild with all these people, down south, dirty and baking in the sun watching people hand out mushrooms in front of the stage and i thought... This is America...
2. Sound Tribe Sector 9 - My first time seeing them for the latenight, they rocked it and had an awesome time, one of my highlights from last year contrary to SaintCash's comments hehe its all good man...
3. Keller Williams - He's my fav and he played a pretty solid set. My first time seeing the Keels, seen em a bunch since then though. The vibe was great and i had made it under the tent right after Particles set which i had caught the end of. It was like Keller gave me shelter from that crazy rain, when the show was over and i walked out of the tent i didnt even remember that it had stormed so bad.
Worst: 1. Trey - Just a bad show, im not hating on anyone but it happens, Trey said it was a bad show himself. 2. Ratdog - I really liked this set but i've seen them play SOOOO much better, i think they're more of a small venue band. 3. Gabby La La - I was cool with less not being the front man so much and playing more of a supportive role but like alot of people, Gabby just doesnt do much for me. She's out there and interesting kinda but doesnt have a hook with me so much.

Modest Mouse is an amazing studio band. I'd easily rank two of their CDs (Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon & Antartica) in my top 10 list, if I had a top 10 list.
As for live? I can't say. I've never seen them. From what I hear, however, Modest Mouse shows vary from good to bad. 'Roo must have been a bad one. So it goes.
by the way.. there is a guy up there calling people asssholes and motherfukkers and yet it is my post that you see fit to remark on with things like " the remark about your 9 year old is not funny and IMO was solely meant to be insulting." your right.. i should have been swearing and calling people names....you instigators are just silly sometimes.... i dont understand why my opinion draws such responses while poeple are commenting on commiting suicude if ya like my chemical romance and calling people vulgar names and it draws no response...at least my posts have an actual opinion and are generally not nearly as inflammatory as what alot of you like to twist them into

Actually, not to cause a fuss, but the guy above (dudezer) wasn't calling anybody on the boards an 'a-hole' or 'motherf**ker'. He was referring to the fact that Modest Mouse's frontman, Isaac Brock (he called him Ian), is notoriously known to be a bastard. Which is true.
i realized that it wasnt about anyone on inforoo.....but i would say it falls under the category of "solely meant to be insulting" much more then anythign i said.. and my comments were in reference to many other posts in many other threads in addition to this one that go unnoticed because everything i have to say is such an issue to a few

keith, You talk more about all of these conflicts going on around here than anyone else... That doesnt help... If you dont want them to pick you apart, dont pick them apart...
yes i know... i talk about the conflicting issue... i dont comment on other peoples opinions of the issues until they make inflammatory comments or misrepresent what i am saying...its not the people with differing opinions that are fighting...its the people who comein and call us names or say somthing like "i am so tired of all this whining" and what not for simply discussing the issue that cause all of this bickering
