I really want to participate in this thread, but I wasn't at '05, so I give you my best and worst of '04:
Best: 1. My Morning Jacket - OUTstanding. It pains me to hear people talk slightingly of one of the best performances I've ever seen. At one point, I felt the earth move.
2. Damien Rice - I've always liked him. Always. But I was afraid he was going to come off like John Mayer live. Boy, did he prove me wrong. (Apparently, in '05, John Mayer went another step and proved me wrong about him as well.)
3. The Bad Plus - I've never seen a group of guys so happy to play or so stunned when they were appreciated. The whole crowd loved every second of it, and so did they.
4. The Kings of Leon - Sweaty. Grimy. Dirty. Rock.
5. PRIMUS - The Bonnaroo '04 DVD could have been this whole show and I would've bought one for myself and one for each member of my family.
Honorable Mentions: Steve Winwood, Bob Dylan
Worst:
1. Wilco - Oh man. Wilco is one of my top three favorite bands and I have seen them K-I-L-L live. They can rip your heart out, rock you like a hurricane, however you like it when you catch them on the right day. It was too hot (I almost passed out from heat stroke mid-show), the sound blew, and I just wanted more. Have seen them twice since then, both outstanding shows, so they get a reprieve.
2. Trey Anastasio - How Disappointing. I suppose we left early, so I shouldn't talk, but you can't expect to just play one or two songs well and have everyone rave. I would've rather stayed at my campsite.
3. Los Lonely Boys - Worst way to start out a festival ever. Lame dot com.
i tried really hard to resist but i am not able to, so one last thing....mellow-dramatic??? come on guy if your gonna tout your superior intelligence then at least use the correct spelling and not some contraption of a word that dosent exist. maybe some english classes might be a good addition to your long list of classes. i think you were looking for melodramatic. its ok its a common mistake... just bad timing for someone going to such an extent to explain their intelligence
i only know because a gorilla taught me
you're right man, I was rather high when I put that post-up, and didn't really think about it. You got me.

I actually really enjoyed that show. Actually, as I read your post (and as I type this) I am listening to them live from the Fox Theatre in 04. They (in my opinion) are alot of fun to watch live.
And Bob Dylan is my favorite artist of all time and I've seen him multiple times but I found his Bonnaroo set lackluster. To each his own, I guess.

I know the Los Lonely Boys like what they do, but starting a show (festival or not) by saying "Do you guys want to hear some Texican Rock n' Roll??" makes your entire gig sound like a gimmick based on your ethnicity.
But I don't like their music anyway, so I'm biased.
I don't like Heaven or a couple of their more poppy songs, but Onda sounds like vintage Santana to me. I don't think they are the best way to open a festival either, but I don't think Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra was in 03 either and I enjoyed that set.
thats just the kind of excuse id expect from an ithica boy
so the lowercase y in you're is for irony too?
Are you out to get me or something? It wasn't an excuse, it was the truth; and furthermore, IthAca has two "a"s in it, which is an inexcusable spelling mistake seeing as how its directly under my name (wouldn't call you out, but you did it to me). And wait a second . . . are you trying to tell my I should have capitalized the "y" in "you're"? Cause you're wrong if that's the case . . .
[ he implied i was immature and then challenged me to a duel of "thingy sizes" and right after mentioning education...that is awesome...killer stuff...i salute you sir...your humor is outstanding and exactly what was needed to difuse a tense situation...you are truly the man and i bow to you in thanks
that was 100% serious for me....sorry i didnt get your joke (even though i even mentioned your killer sense of humor....and even made reference that it was a joke.....easy killer) i think maybe we need a spelling and reading comprehension thread.... maybe hooked on phonix works for me
this is a a forum...its not like your turning in a report to a president (like he can read)ive got better things to do then fix all typos and errors in my posts....plus my tutor keeps on signing for more banannas and wont proof-read a god damn thing

sorry, didnt mean to sound that hostile, said the ithica thing just joking around, then afterwards i noticed the y and had to add that in there too. lookin back i guess it sounds pretty angry. if your gonna get on people for grammar on a message board though you gotta expect your posts to be scrutinized.
I have to ask. there seems to be so much positive reaction to Kings of Leon that mystifies me. The two times I've seen them live, they've been thoroughly mediocre (except on the few and far between longer jams). No energy. Not much deviation from the album versions of the song. But I saw them back when they were supporting their first album. Have they improved or is it just people who love their music giving them leigh weigh?
i have only seen them at roo... and i dug the music but couldnt take the singing....everyone who likes them tells me to give it a chance..it takes time to grow on ya but i think its just not for me
i like their album stuff well enough (the second one has some embarrassingly bad lyrics though). just wish they tried to be more rock'n'roll and less 'too school for school' in their live performance. maybe they'll loosen up as they get older.

In my case, yeah I would say I was pretty biased. I felt that they had energy though. Not Akira mind blowing but the people around me were gettin down, so it was fun none of the less!
