^^^Yeah. Badly produced. I know more than a few people who've heard them live who say they sound nothing like they're album. I'm not saying studio albums and live performances need to sound alike, but there were dozens of people on these boards who went to Bonnaroo last year who blew Mutemath off because they felt the album wasn't very good. And some of those people happened to catch them live and really dug them because their sound translates differently live. Which makes sense if you know about how the group was formed or the background of all that at all.
And yes, I'd say I run in circles that are probably more aware of Mutemath than you. In fact, I can almost guarantee it because I have Christian friends and non-Christian friends alike who are borderline obsessed with them. And I can honestly say that their hype has not grown since Bonnaroo. Maybe people who didn't know about them THEN are more aware of them NOW, but they're still consistantly opening for other groups in areas that they should be headlining.
Not hating because I like the group, and have followed them for a few years now. But just laying it out as I see it.
As a side note, they are about to headline a tour for the first time this year I think. I think a year of touring and another album under their belt will put them in a place where a return to roo would be in the cards.

That's what happened to me. I saw a live performance of theirs on a Paste Magazine dvd and thought wow that sounds awesome but when I started listening to their album stuff it wasn't anywhere near the same thing. That being said, I missed them last year and wouldn't mind seeing them sometime.
^^Do. Like I said, if they aren't coming to Bonnaroo this year, they'll be making the club rounds. I don't foresee tickets to their shows to be astronomical in the least and well worth their value.
Im not exactley sure how much you know about them then because they headlined a tour last year and are currently headlining a tour.
Also they played in October in Charlotte NC at Tremont Music Hall for $10 with The Whigs and Jonzetta. Then in January played at Ovens Autitorium for $32, thats a pretty damn big difference. They have also been on Jimmy Kimmel and a bunch of other places in the past year.
As for your album sounding different thing isnt that what everybody including rolling stone always said about every jamband? Thats all I ever ever ever heard about Phish. I mean almost the exact same statements.

Okay. First, they headlined one short tour for their album, the concert in January was opening for The Fray, a gig on Jimmy Kimmel live is about the end of the line for late night talk shows. They're headlining a tour in Europe, the same place where the Dandy Warhols sell out stadiums. The band opened for Mae last time they came through Austin, a town relatively close to their home base AND a town that also has a lot of personal ties to members of the band.
Finally, Mutemath IS NOT a jam band. They are a rock band that jams. Comparing them to Phish is irrelevant in that their target audience is widely different than Phish. The way their album was produced has everything to do with the scene they were initially trying to appeal to. Not going any deeper into the conversation than that though because it opens up a whole other can of worms.

That site seems semi-legit. I think that we might have found our Friday night Headliner or the lead-in to a Headliner. Nice Pull, SC20.
As a side note, I'm a fan of David Garza. And I could tell you that he's had two major label releases with decent promotion. I could tell you he's won year end honors from critical groups for the albums he's released. He was featured on Craig Kilborn's late night talk show. He's had his music featured in mainstream movies. He's toured major venues opening for A list acts where tickets go at $60 a head general admission.
However, none of these facts change that he currently plays for free almost every Tuesday night for months at a time at the local folk hangout, the Cactus. Does it change my opinion of the man as an musician? No. But it also doesn't make him a mainstream success.
Wow you're so smart dudezer! But seriously, I personally would like Dylan leading into the headliner on Friday, just not as the headliner, regardless of the special guests.
^yeah, i know. opinions suck don't they. what sucks even more is when people attack your opinions with 'facts' which turn out to be false instead of saying something like "i don't agree" and leaving it at that.
but it's a good thing people are out there to judge you with sarcastic comments and karma points...it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

i'm still amazed how you manage to stay in the negative karma wise. we almost had you in the positive a week or so ago it seems...
ya i said dave didnt suck. i was karma attacked by the dave haters. and ive got one bush republican that does the same. but i figure anyone who posts regularly knows it just one of those things that happens to an opinionated person on a message board.

I have yet to smite anybody in the 9 or so months I've been on this board. I would only do it if someone was really keeping the board from running properly (spamming, etc)
......or if they said something bad about radiohead
Dudezer I wasnt in any way comparing them to Phish or even calling them a jamband. I was just saying thats the comment I always heard about phish and other Jambands. And many if not most were amazing bands.
And hasnt Craig Kilbournes show been off the air for like 2 years? That surely does not match up to Jimmy Kimmel a month or two ago. And why would you call that the end of the line for latenight? Its live, you play on an actual stage in front of your fans, and you play two songs instead of one. Id say thats pretty decent.

I assume you are talking about me but I have no clue where you are coming from. First off you claimed that you knew so much more about the band than anyone else(that sounds like fact to me). Then I just responded with facts: they headlined a tour a little bit ago, they came back through in a much larger venue for more than 3 times the price, they played on Jimmy Kimmel. Thats it. And trust I havent hit you with a single negative karma point. to me that karma stuff is lame.
I posted that i talked to the mutemath guitarist and he said they would be there maybe i was wrong or something didn't workout but we sat there and talked about the roo for a good 5 min. I could have misheard i guess. Maybe he said they would like to play oh well. Hope they are there.

YES!!!! Score another one for the good guys. I've been very pleased with the confirmed artists (and not so much with the rumored ones). Lets hope this keeps up!

Yeah, I was being an ass. That said, I think my posts pretty much explained why I thought you were skewing facts (such as playing larger venues without noting they were opening for larger acts). Let's move on to speculation...

I'd say its either Beck, Feist, J5, Keane, Loretta Lynn, NIN?, TVOTR, Wolfmother, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Oh yeah, stings on their label....... I dont think they're going to announce that date until bonnaroo does though.
