"The Police, which made Sting a household name, is planning on reforming in celebration of their 30th year anniversary. Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers are planning on rehearsal dates in the near future and plan on playing massive gigs in the UK this summer. The trio has not played together since breaking up in 1984. A source told themirror.co.uk "They were intending to make an announcement in January after all the tour dates had been finalised." The band scored a number one hit with "Every Breath You Take" in 1983. 'Synchronicity' was their crowning achievment as it went 8 times platinum. All of the groups studio albums achieved platinum success before the band went out on top in 1984."
I'm nervous because Coachella is notorious for offering a ton of money to some old band to reunite on their stage-- but the Police have turned them down before. I'm thinking Roo could be it (if they do a U.S. festival).
I guess there's a chance they could play Coachella or Bonnaroo, although I would think Glastonbury would be more likely. If Roo were to get them, then it would be pretty awesome, agreed.

I don't see why they can't play all three. This would be great stuff, and I think with Copeland being at the Roo last year, I see this as very promising. If they do play both the Roo and Chella, then it would be like doing east coast/west coast. Hell, they can even throw in an ACL and cover the south as well.
Like I said, I'd like to be wrong. It would be a huge show. Looking into it, I don't know about if I trust the source listed. I'd like to, but I think we'd be finding more about this all over the place, like major news sources. Also, some of the stuff listed (like the not playing together since breaking up) is wrong.
No, I do agree with you Isaac. Definitely, Coachella is known for getting reunions going - Hell, they got the Pixies back together, along with numerous other acts, so if the Police were to play one festival, I would not be surprised that they play Coachella.
And I also agree that the Cleveland leader being the site to break this seems highly suspect. I checked NME.com and Rollingstone.com and neither have anything mentioned. Although, I did find out that TV on the Radio is coming to my town (Atlanta) on a Friday in April about 0.5 mile from my house. That put a smile on my face.
Edited: The mirror link is giving this "rumor" more legs. Sorry to doubt the almighty Cleveland Leader.

If the police were there, well id bust a nut over it a few times. I also like the odds considering stuart copeland played last year, it probably just depends on how he liked it. I'd say if he liked playing there he'd suggest it to the band, making it a strong possibility. I'd say the police is one of the biggest headliners they could get, next to a pink floyd or cream.
When I first saw the title of this thread I got worried, I thought it had something to do with an increased police presence at Bonnaroo. Thank god it's not what I initially thought!
My initial reaction is to call bullshit, but...this comes from Sting.com:
01.03.07 30th Anniversary of the First Police Single - Official News As numerous rumors have started circulating regarding plans for a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the release of the first Police single, the following is an official statement released on behalf of the band by a spokesperson at Interscope Geffen A&M Records:
"As the 30th anniversary of the first Police single approaches, discussions have been underway as to how this will be commemorated. While we can confirm that there will indeed be something special done to mark the occasion, the depth of the band's involvement still remains undetermined."
Now this gives creedance to the idea that the band might actually be getting back together given the lack of denial from anyone in the group (something usually accompanies rumors like this). However, I think it far more likely it would be a one off gig for charity (a la Pink Floyd) or a short stadium tour in England. The idea of those egos co-existing in a global tour seems a bit far fetched...it is an interesting possibility.
i call shenanigans on the mirror. this would be BIG news if it happened. sorry... HUGE news. Too big for Roo. They could sell out stadiums on their own.
so can radiohead, dave, trey, the dead/phil, wsp and tom petty. do they need to do roo?? no. but its gotta be an enjoyable thing for bands to do. and im sure the money aint bad. id say there are no bands too big for roo outside of an announced one show phish reunion.

this is the first that i've heard of this..... PLEASE don't play with my emotions!! i am a huge POLICE fan. i saw them on my 4th ever concert. it was one week after i turned 14, it was on the very last leg of their very last tour, and it is STILL one of THE BEST shows that i have ever seen. it was truly amazing.
however, this could be just a rumour gone too far. i don't think i can believe it just yet. i will NOT get my hopes up..... but if this becomes a ROO-reality, then i will get all giddy inside. LOL
It’s looking more certain than ever that Sting is about to reunite with his original band, The Police.
The signs are strong, with enough clues available so that even Colonel Mustard could figure it out. Here’s one: Yesterday, both former Policemen Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland were guests, with their families, at a Malibu birthday party for Sting’s better half, Trudie Styler. Their appearance caused quite a stir.
And on Thursday night at the Disney Music Hall in Los Angeles, Sting dedicated a lute version of “Message in a Bottle” to the pair of former comrades who happened to be seated in the auditorium.
Further investigation: Although Sting and his camp remain mum on the subject, sources do tell me that The Police will reform this summer to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
Yeah, a Roo appearance is pure speculation at this point, but you can bet your ass that AC and Superfly will do anything that can to book them. Sweet Jesus, this would be so awesome, especially if it was their first reunion gig!
If the Police are named as a headliner, I will be glued to my puter the moment tickets go on sale to get mine before the fastest sell-out in history ends!
