I dont think he's that much of a stretch to preheadline, but the lineup has gotten a lot bigger since 04', i think. Thinking that, modest mouse definatly wont preheadline, especially after their 05' set, even though they were having technical difficultys.

In that sense the biggest year is debatable. But in a popularity sense, i think 06 was inarguably the "biggest" yet. And this year it just has to be even bigger.

Not to mention they have the Cochella lineup to compete with (Rage AND Jesus and Mary Chain reunions), hence the now-likely Police appearance.
Friday: The Black Crowes - Pearl Jam Saturday: Modest Mouse - The Police Sunday: Willie Nelson - Bob Dylan
But what about Tom Waits??? And didn't Modest Mouse play the 2nd stage in 05 if I remember correctly. Hell I dunno.....I just know that inital leaked report was sick and I wish it was true.

Waits (oh please God bring the man to Tennessee) I think would play 1) as a pre-headliner, 2) headlining Which stage, or 3) some very special late night set, perhaps also on Which stage.

This part of the process always makes me feel like I did when I was alittle kid waiting for Christmas. You know, "Will I get a bike or socks or money...and is it going to snow again this year...and God I hope my cousin Jordan doesn't come...". It usually works out pretty well, but the wait always kills me.
I am curious how the headliner/pre headliner spot is gonna work out, especially if Pearl Jam isn't there. if PJ is i'll guess they'll play friday, which also pretty much assigns MMJ to play before them (amazing)
I don't think Modest Mouse will open unless their second album REALLY takes off.
I also can't think of who could play and open for the Police. To me in terms of size this would work well for Bob Dylan, although I don't think his style works that well to lead into them. Anyone got any ideas for a pre-Police act?
I have seen these talks about Dylan playing as a headline and I just want to point out that it was said that Beck was a headliner last year before the lineup was announced, but we found out he was a co-headliner.I think the same could go for dylan, especially since thats what he played the last time.
Alot of people do not know of Modest Mouse's earlier releases. Thats okay though, if they play Bonnaroo it will make people aware of their early works. Which are their best by far.
where does this dylan/dead idea come from? ive seen you mention it a couple of times but ive heard nothing about it outside fo that. is it just a dream/wish or is there something i havent heard?
In my mind I knew there were other cd's, but I guess I just forgot. Sorry. There is nothing to really verify the Dylan/Dead idea, just wishful thinking and their tour in the 80's (?) together when Jerry was still with them.

IF The Police are at Bonnaroo my bid is on Incubus to open for them. Though they've never really struck me as the Bonnaroo type, they're amazing live. They have a new album out, so it would make sense. Also, every concert of theirs I've been too they've played a Police cover, and Copeland's no stranger to making guest appearances at their shows. IF The Police are there, I will put all my money on Incubus attending as well.

I agree wholeheartedly. I couldn't stand A crow left of the murder. In fact, I returned my copy the day after I bought it, and I'm beyond afraid to try the new album. I don't think they belong at bonnaroo, but if the Police are there I'd be more than willing to bet they will be there too.
As much as I would love seeing My Morning Jacket as a pre-headliner for Pearl Jam, I don't see it happening. Pearl Jam would be a huge audience draw, so I would think the Bonnaroo management would try to thin the crowd out before PJ's set. This is why we had the Beck-Cypress Hill-etc. clusterfuck last year before Radiohead's set (fortunately, it was an easy decision for me because I wasn't missing Beck for the world).
If MMJ played before PJ, there would be tons of people who would love to see both back-to-back (because that's awesome), so I don't see that happening. Instead, I'd imagine they'd either play Which Stage like '05 or a late-night tent set like last year.
For me when I had S.C.I.E.N.C.E and Fungus Amongus (sp) they didn't do it for me in the way that Morning View and A Crow Left of the Murder did. I know it's the reverse for a lot of people, but I like their sound more now. The idea of them opening for the Police is interesting, I had no idea there was a relation between the two. Having never seen either, I would probably use that as a rare time I would stake out a spot for several hours, because I like Incubus enough to want to be closer and I'd REALLY like to be in a reasonable spot IF the Police play.
I still don't see why everyone is now thinking they both can't be there.
well i dont think pj is any type of sacrifice so the police will play. its just that it looks like pj has a show in poland on roo weekend. a
Well, before the rumors about The Police reunion popped up, it appeared that Pearl Jam was basically going to be this year's Radiohead (ie. Bonnaroo finally booking a band they'd been trying to get for years). Now all of a sudden, it's looking less likely that PJ is playing this year, and highly likely that The Police are headlining (due to the Grammy appearance/annoucement delay scenario).
Also, this rumor just popped up on MusicScene:
"To open their return of Europe, PEARL JAM will make their third appearance at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands in May, followed by slots at the Rock Im Park and Rock Am Ring Festivals in Germany. After winding their way up through Denmark, Sweden and Poland they will be ready to rock the UK for four huge shows, concluding in London on June 21st. We understand that a number of major venues in cities along the US East and South-East coast, including Tampa, West Palm and Atlanta, have been booked by the band. More details soon."
Despite this, I'm still hoping for both to appear .
