I think that alot of the people in '05 just wanted to make the scene, hanging around for enough of their preformance to say that they had "seen" them. There's alot of that at Bonnaroo every year. People feel like it's some sort of hipster p*ssing contest where whoever "sees" the most shows, wins. Also, I think that people sometimes feel the insecure need to try and fashion bullsh*t hipster superiority, sh*tting allover anything that everyone else likes. I'm not saying that everyone that didn't dig Volta's set falls into either of these catagories. If it wasn't your thing, that's absolutely understandable....but everyone here knows the kind of people that i'm talking about (they're always there). I'm just saying that this kind of attitude is definitely prevelant at all concerts, especially one like Bonnaroo. Afterall, it's the biggest of the big....and the hippest of the hip. I loved their show and a repeat preformance would be all I need to make this Roo as close to perfect as possible.

Well said. I know alot of people like that and I have to constantly remind them that music is a matter of perspective. Besides that, what right does anyone have to sh*t on someone elses little ray of sunshine. None. I met this dude who was one of my buddies college friends. He had hipster painted all over him. We talked about alot of music and somehow ATDI came into the fold. Unfortunately I asked him his opinion on TMV. He proceeded to tell me with a straight face that he thought Sparta was a much more talented band. I almost hit him.
He also went on some big tangent about how he hates music with no vocals. He's a hipster so I grilled him on Jazz. Can't like Jazz if you don't like...ummm.... instruments. Can't be a real hipster if you don't have some fake assed appreciation for Jazz.

That's funny, I don't think I've met a hipster who's not too narrow-minded to think jazz is worthless.
I love talking to hipsters and bringing up Charles Mingus. Mingus was like an atomic bomb to Jazz. Il go on and on and then ask them what their favorite Mingus composition is. Then they usually look like this ???

OK, take this for what its worth. Its from the comatorium which can be 50% fanboy BS and 50% REAL insider news.
There is no real source on this yet, and it could be a joke. I just figured it was post worthy.
"Universal Records craziest outfit 'The Mars Volta' is set to release their latest album entitled 'Gangrene Feathers' this April. The productive duo just released their third album, 'Amputerchture', to a mixed reception, and are also set to record the soundtrack to a yet untitled film by Jorge Hernandez Aldana."

Hope to god that is true.
Well, it certainly sounds like a TMV title. I really like it.
This just keeps going on with my theory of them playing roo. SF/AC wouldnt want to take away a bands thunder. Either they let TMV announce their new disc and tour, or Roo announces them first and they just get to say "ohh yeah, we're releasing a new album, and tour BTW."
edit: Im getting excited. Credit goes to exo from thecomatorium. Figured this would be some good reading for fans.
"Don't shoot the messenger.
For all I know she's lying, but I doubt it. She's working for the record company that's going to publish the new record. Not Universal, so that article might be wrong."
"Simen sier: Hey, are you still there? -:Luicy:- sier: Yup! Simen sier: Hmm, I just read something on IMDB about the new tmv record. There's an artible saying the name is 'Gangrene Feather'. Know anything about that? Simen sier: article* -:Luicy:- sier: Nope, but the copy I have isn't even done. Some of the tracks are missing drums and guitar. Simen sier: Oh, but how does it sound? -:Luicy:- sier: It sounds pretty good. Sounds like a regular record! Simen sier: I mean, the music. How is it? -:Luicy:- sier: Not as rock as the last ones, lots of piano stuff and slow stuff, at least the tracks that sound done or whatever! Simen sier: Ok, that's cool."
"-:Luicy:- sier:
Simen sier: How does the record open? Simen sier: Like, the first song. -:Luicy:- sier: It starts off with piano. Sounds like it's not done yet, because there are no vocals on it. Very dream like and positive sounding. Gets into a drum and bass kind-of thing later on that's pretty metal/rock sounding. I'm not that good at describing the actual sounds Simen sier: Is that part anything like the Gust of Mutts part from Scabdates? -:Luicy:- sier: Hmmmm. Never heard that. Is that the live thingy? Simen sier: Yep. Simen sier: Are there vocals on any tracks? If so, could you give me some lyrics? -:Luicy:- sier: Sure. There's a very catchy part on the second track where he sings 'Maggots descend, grieving your lost/Pretend they will follow and never look back' or something. Typical volta stuff Simen sier: Haha, that Cedric."

Wait. Why are people so convinced that TMV is going to be there this year? There is already a potential log-jam of late night acts and do you really see TMV playing in the sunshine?

Thats really picky. Ill take TMV in a blizzard. Why does anyone think any band who hasnt been confirmed is playing? Nothing is final until SF/AC says so. Until then we get to dream. There's alot of reasons people think TMV will play. From their positive experiences with SF/AC to their announcing a new disc and tour VERY soon. They already announced 2 cali shows.

Haha yeah, I just didn't know if there had been rumors in TMV camp or something about 'Roo this year. I dunno, I've never been able to get into TMV beyond the song Televators even though ATDI was one of my absolute favorite bands in middle school and high school. I'd be all for TMV being at 'Roo though, it would give me a chance to finally see them live. Karma on the high number of Tom Waits plays by the way, he is a genius among men.

If youd like Ill give you some good TMV stuff to check out. Definetly not an accessable band, so I never blame anyone for not getting into them. Frankly, I hated them off the bat. They just grew on me like a disease. Same goes for most of my favorite artists.
Waits is my man. If theres one thing I tell people constantly about my musical tastes its this, and its a Waits quote. "I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things."
And most definetly good looks on adding possibly my all-time favorite album as your avatar.
As for TMV, this is all just lip service. I just throw up whatever I can because theres alot of Volta faithfulls on here. Most definetly praying for them to be at Roo.

I really have no clue what happened to that thread between last night and now. Im not gonna go crazy looking for it as Im sure we'll be getting some news soon.
But for those of you who love the volta, heres an awesome video of their Cinco De Mayo show in NYC in '05. Very, very special show for me as I got to see them play with one of my all-time favorite pianists, Mr. Larry Harlow. Heres a video of a jam from L'via. Great quality, shot on stage.

TMV doesn't matter as much as Panic At The Disco, Claypool, Phil Lesh, Trey, MMJ or The Arcade Fire, so obviously we shouldn't waste our precious Inforoo discussions on them or anything. Why should we spend OUR time thinking about/hoping for another preformance by them? We need to accept that, not only are we in the unimportant minority but, them making a return isn't nearly as important as we may think. I mean, we're only part of the Bonnaroo community, we shouldn't expect any kind of special treatment or anything. The Mods personal preferances should always take priority over our wishes. Thank God, we have them to guide us!

Man, you really are pissed huh? Is this because they locked your Volta thread? If so, don't take it to heart. They only locked it cause there already was another thread.

No prob. That chubby little spanish guy is one of my idols. I grew up in an Irish/German family. How salsa made its way into the house is beyond me, but Im forever grateful.

Seriously, Volta... Come on and bring your busy asses by the farm... fix ya some fresh lemonade... And maybe I'm being hopeful.. but is it more than a coincidence that TMV are presaling tickets for the two Cali shows tommorrow and Friday?
Another thing to bring some hope into yur mindz is that i remember Ashley Capps from AC ent. saying in the Knoxville News-Sentinel that his favorite show of the weeked (05') was the Mars Volta set! or maybe he said it was the one he was looking forward to the most, either way though. At least we know the top dogs got some good taste in music! Ive seen TMV twice, once at Roo and once with system of a down, they were great both times, but the acoustics inside weren't as good as the roo show, or maybe it was my state of mind @ roo, who knows!
I would pee my pants if they announced TMV. In a good way ;D They blew my face off two years ago. I've been dying to see them again, just don't want to see them in an opening slot.

do the volta ahve summer tour dates yet?
Not to my knowledge. I had just recently read that they were "re-entering the studio". If that means more work on the current album or tracking for the next I dont know. Last I checked they have 2 shows booked for SoCal I believe, and keep saying more will be announced shortly. Worst case scenario is Im seeing them at Roseland instead of the City of Bonnaroo. I'm still holding out hope, but its deminishing. With my luck they'd be going late-night against The FLips. I think this is actually the first time Ive thought of such a debacle. I must say, I think the FLips trump everything for me.
We can always formulate a Inforoo Volta abduction for the first week in June. While holding them we can feed most of the band whatever we have and let Omar out to graze.

I actually was standing next to Jack Johnson in the crowd at the Mars Volta concert, it was crazy (even if youre not a Jack fan). I heard rumors of a bunch of different artists at taht show. They definitely rocked it that night (or morning).

TMV add coming soon I hope
TMV has ALOT of admirers. Theres always alot of chatter after shows about what celebs were there. One of the last times I caught them was at Roseland and Serj (SOAD) was sitting in the balcony catching the show. There use to be a big thread on the comatorium about all the celeb fans. Thinking about this gave me the urge to watch a great video.
The Flaming Lips ft/ Justin Timberlake Top Of Pops- Yoshimi Battle The Pink Robots (Part 1)
p.s- Sorry for all the Lips stuff in the Volta thread. Both very different bands, but equals in the sonic orgy of my mind.
