Agreed. Heavy, intelligent music. Right now I can't really see anyone on the lineup who would lead into Tool well. The Flaming Lips is a definitely possibility, but I'd rather see someone more akin to Tool musically.
People feel like it's some sort of hipster p*ssing contest where whoever "sees" the most shows, wins. Also, I think that people sometimes feel the insecure need to try and fashion bullsh*t hipster superiority, sh*tting allover anything that everyone else likes.
Well said. I know alot of people like that and I have to constantly remind them that music is a matter of perspective. Besides that, what right does anyone have to sh*t on someone elses little ray of sunshine. None. I met this dude who was one of my buddies college friends. He had hipster painted all over him. We talked about alot of music and somehow ATDI came into the fold. Unfortunately I asked him his opinion on TMV. He proceeded to tell me with a straight face that he thought Sparta was a much more talented band. I almost hit him.
I know this was waaaaaay back in the thread, but I couldn't let it go without my two cents. I consider myself a peaceful person, who repsects most people's taste in music. But I think I probably WOULD have hit him. Opinions are opinions, but damn...

Just putting this out there. As far as raw skills go, Pridgen blowns Mr Theodore out of the water. The kids young, very talented and has endless potential.
That said, I love Jon. Sad to see him go. He was probably my favorite part of that band. And for the record, he was booted out for being "lazy", he didnt leave.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
Crimminy, I was expecting the Mars Volta and I got the Roots and the Mardi Gras Indians, with all do respects to fans of both, I'm just a little disappointed. GRRRRR ???

Is it Volta day, Poopzilla? They added another date in CA--at least they're playing, that's hopeful. We'll see how long this drummer sticks around...
I think Pridgen will be around for a while. Both Deantoni and Blake were fill-ins. I think there was some sort of intention of keeping Blake around, but they had prior bad experiences with him.
Pridgen is young and very ambitous. An outlet like TMV is perfect for him. He is by no means a 1 dimensional drummer, and playing with these guys will give him a good chance to show his thunder.

^ I'm really looking forward to seeing/hearing him! If he is, indeed, a better drummer than Theodore....DAMN! We really need Volta at Roo this year! Keeping my fingers crossed!

^ Thanks man! That was pretty f*cking impressive but, I'd still like to see him in a band context (TMV @ ROO, for instance). I can definitely see why Omar picked him to replace Jon!
Maybe this "tour" of theirs isn't quite so nation-wide... I can only hope that something is done about this...btw, I think I heard that tickets were selling out for the SoCal shows in under 10 minutes.

Holy hell, I was definately impressed, he seems like he might be their best yet, but we'll see how he works on a jam, studio, and live environment. I have faith in this guy...

I think the fact that hes already been doing it so long at a pretty high level bodes well for his work ethic. It definatly looks promising, now we just have to wait a month to hear about him.
It's killin me that they have to play out in CA. The 05 roo show was the one and only time I've seen them. I'm dyin to see em again. If they don't play roo, at least bring to the east coast!
