^ yeah your right. but when i saw them, he was on guitar the whole show.
Thats very odd. What show was it? Paul came on a bit ago as a full-time sound manipulator. I'm not a die-hard TMV boot collector, but this is the first I've ever heard of him playing guitar with them.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
they were opening for the chilis in november. my personal opinion is that they were much better with just guitar bass keys and drums. with maybe a sound guy out back. now theres like 8 or 9 of them onstage and its ridiculous.

I'm with you on that one 110%. Its not that I think it ruins their sound, it just doesnt do much to improve it. They put out the same amount of thunder when they were just a 5 piece. At least Omar started seriously applying Adrian, Marcel and Paul. During the FTM tour Adrian and Marcel wreaked alot of havoc during the jams. Marcel would do some hand percussion and it wouldn't be on beat with Jon. Stuff like that. They "fit" into the band more with the new material, but an 8-piece (and probably growing) is still very excessive. Just give me a touring rhythm guitarist and Im happy.

Interesting, because I have a natural predilection for a bigger, fuller sound. I agree that a 4- or 5-piece TMV is already quite full, and capable, but seeing them @ Roo with all the other players just made it for me. I like to see a large band be successfully utilized like that.
here's another tmv show from 2007 with pridgen and idle tooth, in case anyone is interested. It's a really good recording too. i think you have to register to get on this site, but its worth it. they have a few other tmv shows floating around too.
A band combining Omar and Frusciante would be amazing. I seem to remember watching a pretty good video of them onstage once, but it was poor quality and a long time ago. Frusciante is an amazing guitar player, there's just not enough improvisation for the RHCP live, too structured. I wish I could hear the recordings of Flea, Frusciante and the drummer's jams, I'll bet they're far more interesting than RHCP (who I like.)

THe Mara Volta playing Roo with the "surprise" addition of Frusciante would be about the most amazing thing that I could ever think of! I'd probably end-up dying (happily) that night! To me, that's just the big surprise announcement that we need to make this year a legendary one! If you really loved us, SuperFly, you'd grant me this one small wish!

Just keeping the Volta love going.
Also informing everyone that there's 2 new Omar tracks floating around. One of them is up on the GSL myspace page. Tonight is one of the few nights a year when tequila sounded like a great idea, so Ill track them down and post them when Im all together again. For now I just want my Mingus Dew.

I just can't see spending that much on a cd, no matter how bad I want it....and trust me, I want that one badly! I will usually shell-out the big bucks for rare vinyl. Was it released on vinyl?

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Live EP without shelling out 100 bucks for it? I'd buy you a beer at the Roo. I can't seem to find even a crappy quality of it anywhere. I'm also have a really hard time finding the Omar Rodriguez album, from the quintet, I hear that is some great stuff as well. Anyone that can help a brotha out would get some major props.
