how did a bunch of goat intestines end up in a dumpster?
Their one time friend, and inspiration for Dealoused, Julio Venengas enjoyed posing nude with them. They spoil, wind up in dumpsters. Enter Blake Flemming.
2 more things.
1) F*CK YEAH!!! 14 pages of Volta love. Last I checked this was the largest non-sticky thread on the 1st page here.
2) Nola should go back and edit the thread title to "Give us The Mars Volta" or something to his liking. "No Mars Volta" almost sounds like we don't want them there.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
So who else is setting up their VCRs for this rare TV performance? I am, and I'm gonna keep this tape forever. Oh, yeah, we are by FAR, the largest thread on the first page, non-stickied.

I wish I had IFC, but alas I do not, not going to call and pay whatever for it, to watch the channel once.
Also I will change the thread title. Let me know what you think?
Karma my man. Good idea since this seems to be the gathering spot for all of us dirty TMV fans. Like I said a few pages back, I'd like to keep this thread going for as long as possible. Every time someone from SF/AC comes to the good ole Inforoo they'll feel the love.
In my opinion TMV is a great poster child for what Bonnaroo has become. They're an "alternative" band who focuses heavily on jamming in their live shows. I don't think many people would complain about them being regulars like Les and Trey have become.
I'm addicted to this new Omar album. If you asked me a month ago if I'd be listening to this or the new Elliott Smith album more I'd tell you Elliott hands down. This really is a pleasant surprise. Really digging this version of PHTE.

"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
we'll just get them to jam on some zeppelin...the closest thing we have to Zep successors + one of the best guitarists in the world. it'd be some good stufff

It was a great peformance! Even though Rollins' show does REALLY suck, karma to him for allowing them to play a full (Volta length) song! That's something that will rarely, if ever, happen! That made it all worth it for me! It's simply amazing that a show can feature an interview with John Waters,a live performance by The Mars Volta and a segment dedicated to calling Toby Keith an assh*le...and still be that bad! (Forgive my rant. I've always really hated Henry Rollins and that show just reminded me why!)

The Mars Volta has to be the all-time "most loved band" that most people don't even know about. Roo'ers know them, but the average music fan has no clue who they are.

if they ever went mainstream, it would be tragic.
They became (unwillingly) mainstream for a heartbeat when FTM came out. Widow-mania swept the airwaves. Omar and Cedric joked many times about FTM being the most returned album of all time because of that single...... the only song under 10 minutes on the entire album.
I'll never forget seeing them on that tour. At both the shows the crowd was very calm until they started playing The Widow, then 500 screaming emo kids just came out of the woodworks.

Not to worry TMV faithful; I don't think The Mars Volta is a band that can ever be really mainstream. They are enjoying a bit of commercial success but that's bound to happen with a good band. Think about their style of music: it is so avant-garde that I don't ever see the general public labeling it as mainstream.
Their music is so wierd and so different from most other music that I listen to--my ex-girlfriend always asked "why do you like this stuff, it's not like your other music?" But I probably love TMV over any other band right now. (my current squeeze loves TMV and I always tease her 'cause I've seen them live and she hasn't. Ironically, our favorite TMV songs are way different)
But seriously, here in TN, nobody I talk to knows about the Volta. I drop the name here and there but never see any recognition. I was talking to guy at work last night, he says he plays guitar, says he likes the underground stuff, mentioned a Buckethead show he had recently attended. I asked if he knew Omar's music and he said "Who?" And Omar is a guitar God.
Sorry for the long rambling post. Anyway, I doubt TMV will ever be a household name.
None of my friends new of them until I started listening to them, and so far none of them like it. Big shock, huh? Some of them with me even went as far as to bash it, when I made them watch the Henry Rollins Show. Saying stuff like "where are his balls," "those lyrics make no sense," "well, he's fast, but he doesn't play well." (that last one was being directed towards Omar)Oh well, though, more for me to love, i just wish more people would give them an open chance, and I think they could have a shot at being a house-hold name.
I know, it's a joke. I think TMV would win, or at least be in the top 3. I'm amazed at how popular they are on here. I'm glad to see Mars Volta mentioning Van Der Graaf Generator in that interview, interesting little bit.

Ding-dong! May I interject for a second? As a Burger Shack employee for the past three years, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that if you're craving White Castle, the burgers here just don't cut it. In fact, just thinking about those tender little White Castle burgers with those little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in your mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one... just makes me want to burn this m*th*rf**k** down. Come on, Pookie, let's burn this m*th*rf**k** down! Come on, Pookie! Let's burn it, Pookie! Let's burn this m*th*rf**k** down! Let's burn it down! Let's burn it! So you guys maybe should just suck it up and go to White Castle.
Add the m*th*rf**k*ng Mars Volta, or we'll burn this m*th*rf**k** down!

dunno if this adds anything new, dont have the time to read the whole thread
from an email Hi Mike,
Thanks for your interest in Bonnaroo! I agree that the Mars Volta would be an awesome addition to our festival, and we are definitely keeping that fact in mind. There will be more artist additions added in the upcoming weeks, and they should be good ones. Stay tuned!
