Actually This is the response I expected but wanted to express my opinion anyway. Maybe they will warm up for somebody decent in the future and I won't have a choice but give em another shot. LOL ;D

You didn't really express an opinion! You made a blanket insult, then seemed surprised and indignant when people (who you already knew were TMV fans) got offended. To join a board like this and have your very first post be a purposely inflamatory remark like that, just shows that you don't really get the spirit of Inforoo or Bonnaroo! You said "hi" by insulting the devoted contributors of the the most popular "band" thread on this board. You didn't even try to make any kind of intelligent argument. You just dropped-in to say "f*ck you", pure and simple. I just don't understand what it is you expected! You got what you deserved!
If you think that The Mars Volta is devoid of talent and that all of their songs sound alike, I can only assume that you simply don't know sh!t about music. If i'm wrong, please explain. Like stuckinutero said, I'm extremely interested in what it is that you like. That will speak volumes! And....It will undoubtedly be more informative than "they sucked"!

I'm thinking the chances of getting The Mars Volta are pretty slim at this point. I just don't see them waiting this long to announce an addition as signifcant as the Mars Volta
I hope I'm wrong though, I've seen them live twice and they blew my mind both times.

Boy did you hit the nail on the head with that one.
I totally respect your opinion to like or dislike a band, personally I don't dig N'Sync too much myself, but hey, others do. I really don't understand how you would say that all their songs sounds alike. Were you listening to them or were you simply there?

After they drop another 2-3 big names I'll lose hope. I'm only holding on because they meet the standards of a "bombshell announcement".

I shun you and your lack of faith. You gotta have faith. The slogan for the New Orleans Saints all those years we were terrible was "We Believe" I suggest that become our Mars Volta slogan. Any takers?

A lot of people saw them on tour with RHCP, and if you have, disregard. That whole tour just basically gave TMV a bad name. About 20x better on their other tours.

If you saw their roo show and didnt like it, you probably just wont like them. The only hope is that you so much prefer Pridgen. TMV definatly isnt for everyone though.

From everything i've heard, TMV is not a good opening act. For some reason, it just dosen't work. They need a good deal of time to properly represent their music. If you've ever listened to their records, you have to understand that they can't really be themselves playing a 40 minute set. Like Ziggy said, if you saw them at Roo in '05 and you didn't dig them, you probably won't ever.
I dunno, I think some people get it and some don't. The first time I heard it I had no idea what the hell was going on, and I asked if it was Chris Cornell or something (who hits those notes?). That said, I liked it immediately.
Some people just probably aren't into it at all.
Someone asked me the other day what kind of music The Mars Volta play, and I said it's like listening to a Mexican opera on peyote.

^ LOL! While listening to "Deloused" on the way to Bonnaroo in '05, my gf asked "That is a girl singing, right?". She didn't really seem to be digging it all that much but, after their set she was hooked. I'd been a fan since I randomly bought the "Inertiatic" picture disc a few months earlier (knew the name but, didn't know why) but, that show definitely sealed the deal! You're right oops, They are definitely not for everyone. They're not very user-friendly and they are a little self-indulgent at times but, once you "get" it (IF you get it), you can kinda become rabid about it! I love the fact that their music is pretty indescribable. That just goes to show that they are doing something new, innovative and challenging. Hell, when I try to describe them to people, I start thinking "This doesn't really sound like my thing either!". But that's what makes them so great!

i saw them open for APC many years ago, and that's when i fell in love with them. had never even heard of them before that point, knew none of their songs, etc etc... but you just couldn't help but get into it. they basically blew the roof off the joint and completely overshadowed the headliner!

Well Ziggy thats where I saw em so maybe? I had heard from several people that they were good so sat threw there set. ( I am not a sitter, I'm a dancer). I was very bummed cause I wanted em to be good. If I went to a restauraunt and had a lousy meal it would take a little convincing to go back. Peace Volta fans!

Because of this ridiculous little 17 page thread dedicated to the so called "Mars Volta", I decided to illegally download Francis The Mute. I listened through one time and did not get the excitement. Muddy, unorganized guitars, no melody, and high pitched incomprehensable lyrics.
Then I took a deep breath (several... through some type of glass breathing apparatus) and tried to listen again.
I now legally own all 3 albums.
Congratulations y'all!!! Now that I'm on board, Superfly will add them for sure. Don't say I never did anything for you.

I won't be trying to convince you to go back. Based on your original complaints about their music I don't think you'll find anything different to love a second time. We Volta fans need to remember that they are not to everyone's taste.

Thats pretty much how I felt the first time I heard the Tremulant EP. "Who is this strange woman screaming about the neo-necropopulace?" My favorite reviews have to be those handed out by pitchfork. They've always been really brutal to TMV. "I think I just heard him say bastard mastication. I think I should stop listening."
They have a tendency to grow on people immensely. I can't count the times I gave copies of TMV albums to friends, only to have them look like they're going to vomit..... The vast majority of them come around eventually. I still love that to this day I can throw on a TMV disc and hear something I've never heard before. No matter how many times I listen, there's always small nuances that I pick up on to this day.
It just always pisses me off when people say that it's "just a bunch of nonsensical noise". I just don't understand how you can hear some of the huge string and horn arrangements and write it off as "noise".

Pitchfork does write the best Mars Volta reviews! They're vicious, man.
Funniest story about Cedric's voice is about my friend, after we'd listened to Frances the Mute once or twice. One night we were hanging out, and he was like "man, I wanna see the singer from the Mars Volta." I looked at him, like, "really?" And he said "yeah, man, I bet she's hot."

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Not that it is needed, but if you are into "breathing," please sit down and just take in Frances. If you don't like it then, you will not like Volta.
That album is a journey. I can not tell you the amount of f#ck&d up things I have pictured in my head while listening to that album with my eyes closed. I wouldn't change any of it, including the crickets!

Frances The Mute is probably my #1 headphone album of all time. End of story.
Schools over. I've been journeying through 400 posts for months now. Finally got to 500. I get 3 wishes granted for that or something, right?
1) Add The Mars Volta to late night Friday. Please? 2) Add The Mars Volta to late night Friday. Now!!!! 3) Add The Mars Volta to late night Friday?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
