Not gonna lie, I've had Bedlam in Goliath for about a week and TMV are soaring up my list of bands to see this year. Can't wait to check out the other albums.

Just so you guys know, The Mars Volta are putting out a new album this year, supposed to be more "acoustic" but he has gone on to describe "earthy tones" and that it's not just acoustic guitars. So expect a few toned-down songs, but of course they won't go without bringing the house WAY down.
They still play Roulette Dares and Drunkship of Lanterns off of their first LP, but this is a band that likes to play their newest, freshest songs the most.

Sorry, but what's your source on this? Omar said in an interview over a year ago that he hoped to have the new album AND the live DVD out by the end of 2008...and that's the last I've heard of either one.
For some reason, I want to believe that there are multiple sources for this show, and this is just one. However, I could be mistaken... I know, though, that I have a copy, somewhere, that is the show split into two tracks. This is split into individual songs.
thats cool that they arent gonna play much of Deloused because its honestly the only thing i really know by them, but its enough.
I probably wont listen to anything else (too busy with Phish lol) and just let them blow me away live
If you haven't already, grab the Live Phish run of halloween musical costume shows, pretty awesome. As for TMV, I think their show will be much more fun knowing the music and really being able to get into it, I know it was like that the first time.
Since we've got no other tour dates (thus far) for this year and the possibility of an album sometime this year, I'd expect something like what they did with their second set on NYE 07; a handful of new songs and a condensed version of the prior year's tour.
Just my guess... so something like Goliath, Viscera, Widow, Wax, Drunkship, Cygnus, and some new stuff.

unfortunately i was a victim of the 2 columbus cancellations and 3rd show that kind of sucked. it might have been the venue, but man i was just so disappointed. I saw them late night in 05 but if there is anything remotely good going on at the same time i think i am going to have to pass. I really do hope y'all get a great show though. I know they off nights and i think that's what i got. Too bad it had to be after TWO cancellations in a row.

I was also a victim of those horrible cancellations and I said I would never listen to the Mars Volta again. That only lasted 2 weeks and I will be at their show at Roo no matter what.

heres to hoping this roo performance will be as legendary as their last, if not more!

There's no way it can match up. Sure, the performance might be excellent, but part of what made The Mars Volta's 2005 show so legendary was the fact that no one was there. Seriously - the tent was half-full for most of the show. The loud noises and dischordant tones drove all the hippies off to Galactic's Krewe De Carnivale or STS9 or whoever. It's one of those shows that was utterly transcendent because it flew completely under the radar - no one was ready for it.
It actually reminds me of the Flamings Lips show in 2003 vs. their show in 2007: I'd say both were great as far as Flaming Lips shows go, but in2003 they were in a tent, people had no idea what to expect, they weren't yet a huge draw...whereas in 2007 hey filled a field with people there to trip out on the giant animals and lights and balloons and whatnot. It sounds ridiculous, but it makes a difference.
i don't know what show you were at but that 05 show was packed. i even left dmb early and still was in the back. the crowd may have thinned out some during saul williams and the long delay before tmv came on. but by the time tmv started playing the crowd was spilling out the sides of the tent.

You're crazy. I skipped Saul Williams to go watch Galactic...but came back for TMV. Right before they went on, there was a sizeable crowd. I'd say the closest I could easily get to was the back-left-corner of the tent. After about 15 minutes, there were far more people walking away from the tent than towards, and I was able to easily stroll to dead center of the tent, and I always had room to move around.
i do remember moving up some but it was still pretty packed.

i prefer the performance over the size of the crowd. and i doubt tmv would disappoint on the roo turf.
On a side note, there are dates for shows in Europe in early July... now, either that means that this will be a one off show for the US, to kick off the overseas tour, or a mini-tour is soon to come, possibly taking up late May-June.
I'm hoping for this to be a one-off show... something special. As much as I'd like to see TMV again in a club, I'd love for this show to have a sense of exclusivity.
