On a side note, there are dates for shows in Europe in early July... now, either that means that this will be a one off show for the US, to kick off the overseas tour, or a mini-tour is soon to come, possibly taking up late May-June.
I'm hoping for this to be a one-off show... something special. As much as I'd like to see TMV again in a club, I'd love for this show to have a sense of exclusivity.
U sure those are for TMV? I thought they were Omar's band dates... I've seen TMV's UK festie dates...
I think that for 2009 that the band is just going to take it easy and just do a number of festival dates and just put all their energy in those shows on top of finishing LP6.

if thats the case, and i hope it is, lets hope that TMV-ROO09 will be beyond our wildest dreams ))

I'm hoping you're right, because if that's the case: Roo show/other festie shows= more epic than the average show.
Now if they were in a full club tour, more than likely their Roo/fest shows would be anywhere from 30-45 minutes shorter than club dates.

i saw them at voodoo last year, and at clubs, and the energy they had at voodoo was insane. and that was with an hour and a half set time, in the evening.
whether they go on tour or not, which i suspect they will once the album release date is official, this bonnaroo show is going to be amazing.
i really hope they get a loooonnnggg set time, but no matter what it will be longer than that voodoo set time. and the crowd will be a lot more receptive to the band here than at voodoo.
i hope i'm not setting my expectations too high, but i think this will be the best show i ever go to in my life.

When the Volta graced the farm with their presence in 05', it was beyond all of my expectations and I can only imagine that their return visit will be just as epic if not more.

I hope for a spot similar to Ghostland's last year!!!
I hope not, personally. Either have it in the late of the day, or in the beginning of the late night... not smack dab in the middle of late night, which would put it DIRECTLY in conflict with (likely) NIN.
i'm new here, and sorry this is kinda long, but i wanna add my 2 cents.
i've been to 5/7 bonnaroo's. i remember the first one when everyone thought Phish was coming back. It will be very exciting to see Phish FINALLY play at bonnaroo. however, i am probably equally as geeked for TMV. i'm hoping they play latenight on the which stage before NIN on what stage. Anyways, i had listened to very little volta, but i'm a sucker for seeing live music, so i laid down $50 to see em in Tulsa last year. Went to the show not REALLY knowing what to expect. all i could think was SH!T FUCKK $HITT RAWK FUKK!! it was AWESOME!!! For a guy who just generally enjoys bonnaroo, and music. this is going to be epic. for all you Phish heads who are seeking a different way to get your face melted, GO SEE THE MARS VOLTA!!!! the other best show i saw last year was DAvid Byrne. this festival was meant for me!! glad you guys can make it to my party!! :-)
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
new Inforoo-er here, been lurking for about a month now..
'09 will be my first 'Roo and I am extremely excited. Volta is one of my top MUST SEE shows. I've been dying to see The Mars Volta for a while now. Never got the chance to see them in my hometown of Boston. I have incredible respect for them and I think they're incredible. However, I hate how loud their last two albums have been mastered. They're almost un-listenable for me. I'm excited to hear some of the new tracks in a live setting. I feel like it might help me connect with the music more. Anyone feel the same way?
Yeah, makes sense. I fully expect to be blown away, I hear they are out of this world live when they are really in the zone. I just can't get into Bedlam in Goliath and Amputechture that easily because of the mastering. I can't be the only person in the world that feels this way. They sound awful. I know the music underneath is great, I just can't get to it.
I agree, certain parts of the two most recent records don't sound too hot, but the music underneath is as good as it's always been.
I can agree certain songs like "Goliath", "Metatron," "Viscera Eyes," and "Tettra" sound overly loud and heavy on the treble, making them somewhat difficult to get through. All the same, I do think that some songs sound superbly mastered, like "Soothsayer", the book-end of Amputechture, and particularly "Day Of The Baphomets."
The songs take on a more spacious element in a live setting and with many songs off of Bedlam, in particular, the band finds their stride quite well; "Goliath" is one of the best live numbers in the band's large catalog.

Question for you vinyl fans. How much is too much for Mars Volta LP's. My local record store has Bedlam for $50 plus tax. I just bought Amputechture for $26, and I think they're selling Frances for about $33. These are Canadian prices, but do you think it's too much.
I saw Bedlam at HMV for $5 plus tax, which is over $60...pure craziness.

I always check amazon.com. they got used and NEW ones for under 30 bucks. try this link:

i hope that works. 50 is a bit much for me for one album on vinyl
I got okonokos by MMJ for 30ish and that's around the highest I'd like to pay unless it's something I can't resist
Awesome thanks a lot man - karma. I use to keep Amazon in mind when buying things a lot, but it didn't come to me this time. On the Canadian site it has Bedlam for $45, so worst case I'll get them to match that or I'll buy from Amazon and get free shipping.
I have a question for all the peeps that saw Mars Volta at Roo in 05, what was the sound like? Last year two of my most anticipated sets Battles and Sigur Ros both had sound problems. I just hope that Mars Volta doesnt have any sound problems, they seem like a band that would be pretty hard to mix live.

i don't remember it being awful. but they never sound perfect. so i guess it was average.
