I have a question for all the peeps that saw Mars Volta at Roo in 05, what was the sound like? Last year two of my most anticipated sets Battles and Sigur Ros both had sound problems. I just hope that Mars Volta doesnt have any sound problems, they seem like a band that would be pretty hard to mix live.
Well, very shortly after they started the power went out. It's a weird sensation to hear and feel the loud-ass speakers and then hear nothing but what's still powered on-stage, with the drums still going but not much else. (I will never forget the loooong wait for them to come on only to have the power problems shortly after starting. I was really worried that the show would not go on, and my mind was in no state for that...hehe, but fortunately it did and it was great.)
After that was cleared up the sound was fine for me. The TMV shows I saw in '04 and '05 were dicey as far as sound (in my opinion) but this was one of my favorites from the shows that I saw.

That had to suck, good that it all turned out well though. I noticed last year that many sets had technical issues at one point or another. Not sure if that was just last year or if its like that every year, hopefully not.

out of my 2 bonnaroos that happened to tmv and kings of leon. but i don't think were any problems with any other shows that i have seen.
Metallica got a blown speaker or something during " Seek and Destroy". I remember Levon Helm having some tech issues, not much, but a little static and mic squeaking here and there; Sigur Ros sounded far from perfect, but I'm sure that was just the acoustics of the Tent; Superjam in 07(JPJ, ?uestlove, Harper) had some poor mixing... you could hardly hear it for the pulsating bass of STS9.

Yeah, I'm with sangreal. The only times it's really happened to me was TMV and KOL. Out of a shit ton of shows at 5 Bonnaroos, I think that's a pretty good track record.
The only real problem I had at Sigur Ros was that their music can be extremely quiet before they crescendo into madness, and during those parts all you could hear was bumpin' from other tents. That's to be expected I guess though. Every other time I've seen Sigur Ros it's been inside and the crowd and all surroundings were pin-drop silent.

Battles and Racontours had some sound issues as well last year. I seem to recall more sound problems than in previous years, but maybe it's just wehere I happened to be.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

I totally agree about Raconteurs. I saw them a week before Roo and they were amazing...they sounded great! But at Roo I couldn't believe how bad it sounded...I was very disappointed...I regret leaving Les to this day
KOl was bit big deal though...lead singer was pissed, but it was col to se them sing a half a song with no sound..first time for me
I know, I know... the announcement of TMV being at Bonnaroo has put an indefinite halt to the "upload a vid a day" thing I had going... well, I just happened to stumble upon this gem .

yah at first i didnt like bedlam, but i dont think i gave it enough chance at first. now, addiction.
frances the mute == pure sex.
yes frances is the sex. i started my omar and cedric journey with relationship of command (at the drive-in) and one day i heard televators on mtv of all places and fell in love. it took me a while to figure out that this band was made up of members of at the drive-in. i didn't pursue things any further at that point until the widow single came out and i decided two solid singles deserved some real investigation. so, i downloaded some songs, mostly from tremulant ep and eventually bought frances the mute. i was blown away. every listen of it and i found new reasons to love the band. it was like hearing radiohead songs for the first time, or pink floyd, or mer de noms, or the beatles.. i didnt know music like that could be made. i immediately went and bought deloused and was equally as impressed. deloused i found to be more easily accessible for my friends to hear. i've never found myself having to listen to the volta more than once to "get it", but i always felt i had to explain to others why exactly i loved the band. im sure others of you out there have experienced the same feeling of having friends not be able to handle the "noise" but trying to force them to like the band anyway ha.. but then of course i got amputecture when it was released and found it to be tougher to get into, but once i did, i was hooked. scab dates is unbelievable. i'm just sad that i never got to see them live during that time period. i was nervous that bedlam would be too out there, the same way i'd felt at first about amputecture, and it sort of was. but by second or third listen, it all made sense to me and i cant get enough. my amputecture, frances the mute, and scab dates were all stolen and i have sense bought back frances and amputecture and it was like re-experiencing them over again for the first time. unfortunately i havent found a copy of scabdates the last few times i've gone cd shopping.
but i tell you what, by june, i'll have a copy. and my bonnabuddy will be forced to listen to the entire cd. and i will force him to love them as i do.

hahahaa. it's so funny because so many people go through the same volta stories. i forced the cd on my friends... 2 years ago? they said it sucked and blah blah blah, then a day or two later, they asked what it was. made me proud. it seems to take 2 or 3 listens for me to really begin to appreciate it, maybe because it's just so... ... complex? i dont know.
amazing. my 14hour drive to TN will consist of LOTS of mars volta. <3
^For me, it'll consists of a few Volta bootlegs... those things are the way to go. If you guys have gotten into the albums and such, start looking for bootlegs; they truly are one of the best live bands out there.
look for "The Mars Volta. Bren Events Center. University of California. Irvine, CA. 30 January 2008" this show is from an fm broadcast so the quality is the closest you'll get to official release, and its def one hell of a show.

really cant wait for this set. it will be impossible for me to miss this unless theyre against Phish, or maybe Galactic.
They will be playing against NIN or Wilco. What is really think they should do is Put NIN 1-3 on What and then TMV from 4-6 on Which after Ben Harper R7. Thats prolly not gonna happen tho
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Why do people think Wilco will get a late night slot? From most reports, their show is about the opposite of what you'd want in a late night show... I'm saying late afternoon stage (not tent) show.

I think you are right. Wilco = mid day/ early evening WHAT. Like Raconteurs last year.

i dont think Wilco will. why do u think mars volta will? TMV will either be late night against NIN or pre headliner on Which Stage against Wilco on What. But in response to that Wilco would KILL a late night. When i saw them on the lineup i thought of MMJ's slot last year but they will be b4 Bruce.
