I'm thinking a set sort of akin to the show they did before NYE in 07... half older stuff, half new debuts of the new album.
We may get just a couple songs from Octahedron, not too much. I read an article somewhere about Cedric talking about all the shows before Bedlam came out and commenting on how in hindsight he really didn't like it, cause the crowd wasn't into in it because its hard for the crowd to digest alot of new material in a show and be fully engaged to the band. He didn't criticize the fans, but acknowlegded that disadvantage to the crowd.

its nice to have idols that take alot of factors into consideration when putting on a show. beats going to see douchebags who think its all about them, even though they wouldn't be shit w/o their fans.

think they will play any vault stuff? like how eunich was pulled out late last tour?
I don't know, but I wouldn't expect to see Eunuch... I think it was just a random thing they did for a little while.
If they were to "go to the vault", I'd love Take The Veil, Cicatriz, or Concertina.
But, honestly, it's been since September since I've seen them live, and I can't wait, so ANYTHING would be good. They could play "Tourniquet Man" for 2 hours and I'd be happy... sort of.
^I'd rather a "Cut That City" > "Concertina" opening. I mean, imagine all of this odd ambient noise, and then "Neonecropopulace Has No Reflection!!!" to start out a concert... could anything be better?
But I wouldn't complain at the Deloused beginning, at all .
yeah that would be pretty sweet too actually. Ive just watched that old Electric Ballroom show so many times plus Id like to see Pridgen tear that up. This was their setlist the last time they played Bonnaroo in 2005 if anyone cares. I didnt go back and read the whole thread so someone may have already posted this....
Drunkship of Lanterns Concertina Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus L’Via L’Viaquez The Widow (The Haunt of) Roulette Dares

you can expect to walk away from the stage they play at with your head body brain mind soul: everything. scattered around the farm with the ultimate feeling of bliss.

^^^^This sums up why this thread has stayed up top for the last couple of years and why it's still here. Karma! Oh wait....Crunchy Point! Doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well.

i don't know, since the new album is coming out so close to bonnaroo, i think there is a good chance that they'll play more than a couple of songs from it at roo. i think that they'll probably play about half of it. if not more depending on the length of their set and how much they end up jamming out.
also, i found out that money mark from the beastie boys played some synths on one of omar solo albums.
This has probably already been pointed out in this thread, but I have been listening a lot to "The Bedlam in Goliath" and every time I hear Wax Simulacra I hear the following lyric:
To shake by the roots
as
To shake Bonnaroooooo [ts]
I think it is pretty hilarious and makes me look forward to seeing them even more. I'm not a music connoisseur so I must admit that I have had a hard time listening to them in the past except for a few songs, but Bedlam I find to be much more accessible and enjoyable (except Tourniquet Man, bleh)
I'm getting nervous. On Mars Volta's website they have other festivals listed, but not Bonnaroo...hmm
rest easy friend. www.nastylittleman.com/ scroll down and you will see that an official press release from the tmv's pr team confirms their app. at 'roo.

No latenight Mars Volta... I' m disappointed ... that was hopefully the highlight of my entire weekend... now I have to see 1 1/2 hours of the Mars Volta followed by ... Bruce?... then to NIN (conflicting with Yeasayer and MGMT... bruce better be shooting glowticks out his @ss or something to top those two performances... hahaha
At least TMV has the kickass preheadliner slot like the Stripes did... I'm sure it will be amazing
I couldn't be happier with their spot... a latenight would have been way too hectic. I was predicting either a latenight or what they ended up getting (closing a day on the Which Stage, pre headliner), and I'm very happy with the scenario of "see Bon Iver, go to Which Stage for Gov't Mule and The Mars Volta, then chill in a good spot during Springsteen, see NIN."
Sounds like a dream come true, to me, fellas... my two favorite bands (pretty much) back to back on one stage.
Also of note is a reminder that The Mars Volta are going to be doing this performance for Anthony Keidis' sobriety, tomorrow:
I think they are going to kill it at the time they are given. I expect them to play until 9 since they have noone after them until 1 with NIN.
I agree. Their set will almost definitely go longer than scheduled. We won't get the 4 hour marathon that miight have been if it was late night, but they'll definitely play longer than 90 minutes.

^^As much as I love The Mars Volta (a tie for my favorite band with MMJ) I will not be excited for this show until they are on the stage. I got burned three different times trying to see them last year only for them to cancel. Once they finally made up the show it was worth it, but I can't get my hopes up.
