They played the Coachella movie in HD on Paladia the other day. TMV's performance is during the day on it and I thought the energy was still there. I like the idea of seeing them during the day since Ive never seen them that way before. Dont get me wrong, its a trip to see them in the dark with their lights and stage setup... but it will also be cool to see Omar and Thomas groove in the daylight.
You know what? You're right. I honestly hadn't thought of it that way. I've always seen them in the dark so it will be a change of pace. Should be a trip.
i think it will be interesting to see how they play with the time scheduled to them. from what i've heard of the new album, its definitely a change of pace. in preparation for what will be the most anticipated roo set for me since radiohead, i have been relistening to all five of my tmv albums (4 major releases and scabdates) and you can really see evolutions from one to the next. i may listen to all five of them in sequence on my drive up to manchester as well.
is it true that Adrián Terrazas-González and paul hinojos are not featured on the new album? i dont know how to react to no horns on this album
^ I've not heard their presence yet, so I too am not sure what to think of that... we may be in for something totally radical to their usual show of recent years, because of that.

Honestly, performing on the Which Stage leading to the Boss' epic set, TMV are going to destroy! Bonnaroo is their festival (and we're lucky for that!), and they're going to put one of the best shows all weekend. It'll probably be the best show they do all tour, realistically. One-and-a-half hours of Volta into Bruce into NIN is better than anything I could've planned myself. Too good to be true. Just be happy they're not playing the Which during the day like AC. That'd be criminal! They have a prime spot at the 'Roo, in my opinion. Heads will be blown leading into the headliner and late-night madness that is Saturday night. Seven hours of non-stop craziness is enough to make my head spin!

You can't forget the sure to be killer show leading into Volta; Gov't Mule... they are always one of the best shows of the weekend at every festival they play.
I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'm not a fan of The Volta. I've tried getting into them, but I just can't. I know a lot of people on the board like them, so I hope they put on a good performance for you guys. I'll probably be at The Decemberists during the performance.

Not sure man, I was just thinking the same thing. Have you heard Since We've Been Wrong? I can't picture it being well received at 'Roo. I want a high energy Volta show if I decide to skip The Decemberists for them.
Televators on the other hand...I would love to hear
So how well will the more mellow songs of Octahedron flow with their live show do you all think?
Sang and I were talking about his just today.... any chance of anything different than the 8 piece of usual? I'm assuming the full band is intact, with these newer songs being less full of improv and in between their other more improvisational norm.
What do you mean? Like, their "walk on" theme... or the number they'd start the show with?
Their current "walk on" is the theme from "Fistful of Dollars".
As for what they'd open with, it's completely up in the air... over the course of 2008, they opened with either Roulette Dares, Goliath, Drunkship of Lanterns, or the "Jacob Jam".
^For less than the first half of the year, yes... then in May-June, they started doing that jam. Then, ever since, it's either been Goliath or Drunkship, which counts for over half of the shows they did last year.
I'd personally not be surprised to see them open with Goliath... I can just see that being a proper opener at Roo... I'd prefer Roulette Dares, though, or anything, really. Nothing against Goliath... it's a great song, I just like others as openers.
Alright, well it looks like Roo won't be the first show on the tour... June 8th, they have a show in Ventura, CA. Tickets go on sale today.
I'm kind of annoyed by that... but they did the same thing last year, before their NYE show, so, whatever.
Just look at it as a warm up show. They need 1 show to tighten things up before Roo. Plus, there is a possibility they won't even show up for that show so we could still get the 1st show on the tour.
we should do this and have a listening party at bonnaroo...
Host Your Own "Octahedron" Listening Party
This summer, The Mars Volta is giving a handful of lucky fans the chance to check out Octahedron before it is released on June 23rd!
We are looking for 10-15 of their biggest fans to host advance listenings in their homes for their new album, Octahedron. Fans must submit why they deserve to host a party. Submissions are open to interpretation: anything from youtube videos, illustrations, writings, etc. Any way to best translate why you deserve to be a "Host".
"Official Hosts" will have their party pics posted on The Mars Volta’s website (thebedlam.net).
We will also select one host and guest of their choice to see The Mars Volta perform anywhere in the US.
Submit your entries by June 3rd to OctahedronParty@gmail.com. Make sure and include all your info (name, city, state), so we can get in touch with you. Good luck!
After reading a few of reviews for octahedron, i've determined HALO has to make an appearance. I'm also banking on some Frances/DEloused stuff given Thomas' most recent ORL group performances.
