its theodore's style that will be lacking, i dont doubt that pridgen's hands are just as good or better than theodores, but jon had such a great latin hinge to everything he was playing and the jury is still out on how big an impact that will have on TMV

Ouch. Thats never going to happen...... Ever. Please, just don't tell me you're one of those sour ATDI fans who say Sparta is better than TMV.
No, i'm one of those sour ATDI fans who can't stand either Sparta or Volta
god know's i've tried.. but neither of em have it for me
So far I feel like I know more about the bands you DON'T like as opposed to the bands you DO like. Let's keep the good vibes going man, if you don't like Volta thats cool, just let these people wish and hope.

Thomas Prigden didnt just crawl out of the sewers to become the new drummer for TMV. He's had his name out there for a while and alot of people have been waiting a long time to see him really show his stuff.
Pridgens resume even dwarfs Jons in every aspect except a lack of previous works. Prigden has tons of FORMAL training with alot of famous names. The shining part being that he is a formally trained, thoroughly talented Jazz drummer. He is also very young, and very ambitious. Something Jon was not and is the reason why he is no longer drumming for TMV.
I love Jon and the work he did with them. He was one of my favorite drummers, and still is. Alot of TMV fans labeled his "style" "voodoo drumming", when in reality what Jon did behind a kit was nothing a pro couldn't handle. Blake and Deatoni did just fine filling in for Jon on tour. Its just a matter of Jon really being all people have known with TMV.
When everybody thought Blake and Deatoni were permanent replacements I really didn't care at all. When I heard the name Prigden I immediately got a boner. I've heard everything accessible that this kid has done and he most definitely is the real deal.
Here's a great example. Just a basement vid of him screwing around. I would also check out the work he has done on other projects if you are interested.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

Superfly... Watch the watch as it swings back and forth, beck and forth, back... and... forth. You're getting very tired. You are feeling more and more relaxed, and are about to fall into a deep sleep...

Everyone NEEDS to go look for the Horden Pavillion bootleg 3/15/07. Nice and clean recording, these guys blow the roof off with Pridgen. I'll post some more thoughts when I'm done listening.

im thinking the chances they are added are 50%. no, probably 20%...
I think its actually pretty likely they get added. They have played before to a hugely positive response. They didnt play last year. They have a good amount of new material since their last show. They have a hot new drummer. And lastly they dont have any dates up yet during bonnaroo. I dont want to get my hopes too high, because theres no other band i rather see added, but the signs kinda point to them getting added, just because theres really nothing going against it right now.
yeah. i see on this board that alot of people really like the volta and loved their show from 2005. i think it would be the perfect addition. they got great songs and they jam them out.

Anywhere I can download this? I would love to check it out, if not just for Idle Tooth.

I just got if from there. It is a pretty good recording, and Prigden sounds damn good.
karma for providing in my absence.
By TMV standards its a pretty good recording. I'm dying to see them now. Prigden just kills it. Idle Tooth doesn't sound bad at all. Its only about 6 minutes in change though, so its along the line of when they debuted The Widow during the Wiltern shows. They never play their real thunder before it's released. If they don't get added I might have to write a strongly worded letter.

After listening to that boot (one of the best quality volta ones i've heard) I can say after only that one show that i prefer Pridgen on drums to Theodore. I'm not gonna say he owns Jon or that TMV is better of with him, but i definatly prefer his style. Really good boot, if you havent gotten it yet, get it.
