The Flight of the Conchords is a quality addition to an already solid comedy lineup. My friend has an HBO special of them recorded on VHS which we watch religiously. They play comedy songs ala Stephen Lynch.

Ornette Coleman is one of the creators of free form jazz.He is a jazz legend and rarely comes around. He is a must see to me.Check out some of his early 1960s stuff why ahead of its time.

Anything is obviously welcome. This was definitely not the bombshell most of us were hoping for.
I'm with you on both accounts. El-P will be fun, especially with Galactic. The diversity is noted and I am psyched to have some afternoon jazz! But certainly no Shock and Awe:

This makes me gravitate toward someone's theory that some of the big names to be used as artist additions were in the initial leak. Like maybe this addition would have had SCI or Michael Franti or something.

Ornette is a very great addition. I consider him a BIG name even though many here were looking for something different. I'm quite happy with this addition.
And after last year's endless conflicts I am already perfectly happy with what we have. Any more major additions will just end up making me choose more partial sets than I care to.

I admit to not knowing a thing about the other additions, but I'm psyched about Ornette Coleman. I've never made an effort to attend a show by a jazz legend, but love the old school jazz guys. I'm calling it right now though, his time slot is going to create a huge schedule conflict for me because they will put him up against somebody else I really want to see.

Lame for the wait i say. Actually really really lame for the wait. I guess they must have blown the wad on the initial line-up. I'm guessing no big names (Arcade fire, Mars volta) are coming now.
I dunno, if you ask anyone who likes jazz, Ornette is as big (prolly bigger) an announcement than Mars Volta or Arcade Fire. I mean, christ the guy's a legend. I'm f*ckin satisfied, I'll tell you that much. And if the additions are anything like this weeks batch, I think we'll be witnessing one of the best and most well-rounded fests of the year.

Flight of the Conchords - anyone ever heard of these guys? They're a comedy team, according to the 'Roo site.
The New Orleans Klezmer Allstars - Bar Mitzvah music in Tennessee! RAWK ONNNNNN! ;D
Yard Dogs Road Show - a old-school travelling vaudeville troup. Worth a look.
fotc are great. they had a HOB comedy skit that was absolutely hysterical. i love them, they truly are the best folk-parody duo to come out of australia in a long time.

Agreed. I'm sorry that this didn't fit some people's idea of a "big" addition because TMV and Arcade Fire were left out; but please people, dig yourselves out of the indie hole you're in. These additons might not strike your typical 20-something as "big", but they are. Just because you don't know them doesn't mean they're not big. In the grand scheme of music, both Ornette and Bromberg will go down as bigger than TMV and Arcade Fire will ever be.

I'm probably going to get smited for this, but oh well.
I really don't get why people are complaining.
We finally got artist additions and, all things considered, they're pretty awesome artist additions.
No, there's none of the 'ZOMG UBERPOPULAR' bands (ie, Arcade Fire, The Mars Volta, Les Claypool, etc.), and a lot of people don't seem to know these additions. Instead of complaining, why not look 'em up and get into some new music? All these additions are pretty awesome, especially Ornette (jazz legend) and El-P (one of the big names in underground hip hop right now).

maybe this is a sign of even more good things to come, found this in El-P's profile.
With appearances by Trent Reznor, The Mars Volta, Cat Power, Aesop Rock, Cage, Matt Sweeney, Tame One, James McNew of Yo La Tengo and others, this is an album poised to extend a genre into a new realm of artistic expression.
So we already have Aesop Rock. We had Cat Power last year. Yo La Tengo is on tour right now and could be added. The Mars Volta played in '05 and hopefully are added. Plus, the collaborations that could happen. That'd be amazing!

Well, jazz isn't really one of my favs (i know i'll get smitted for that) and hip hop isn't my thing either. Give me something with some POP. I used arcade fire and mars volta as just examples. I mean, most ppl won't know who these artist are. I had no idea. and probably part of it is my indie hole. But one notable or name friendly band would have been nice, espically for the wait.
arizonelovesyou, I couldn't be more on the same page, I've posted twice today that I think it's a good posibility to get one or two of the guest artists that isn't already signed , preferably Omar, Cedric, or Trent(aesop rock is on.) And wasn't Yo La Tengo on a leaked line-up? I always thought they would be good this year.

This is pretty cool. I didn't expect any of these, but I'm down. The chance to see one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time is pretty amazing, and NOKA are pretty great, as are Yard Dogs Road Show. I'll admit, I'd feel a little shortchanged if we didn't get any other big names at all, but this is a fine announcement for me.
^ If you don't know any of em, I'd say the two best are Coleman and El-P. El-p's new record is off the charts, and Coleman has one of the best and most consistent catalogues I've ever seen or heard. To pick one of his recordings to recomend, I'd say start with "The Art Of The Improvisers" and work your way up, chronologically.
i'm glad to see El-P and Ornette Coleman on the list, but this addition is only slightly better than the "first" addition. Hope to see some heavier hitters in the next few rounds
