Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
The problem is it doesn't "sound" like anything cause it is on a message board. That statement was taken 10 different ways, good/and bad, by 10 different people. To somebody who posted how much they like Coleman it didn't look very lighhearted. At least I didn't think so, and I said nothing about Coleman.
I am on the fence about the additions cause I was happy with the initial announcement, anything after is bonus to me.

This isn't a major addition to you, that's fine, does that make it lame? only to you. You should have said something like:
"I dont like this round of additions because older jazz artists and more obscure acts don't appeal to me. I'm looking for something that I read about on pitchfork last month."
The above, is explaining how you feel in regards to the situation. Instead, you said:
"These additions are lame"
That is a blanket statement about the arists, not your personal feelings towards them, and that is why people took offense.
However, I certainly wouldn't say f*ck you in response, you don't deserve that.
Thank you. Thank you, very much for that eloquent description of "what I should have said". You know... There are sooo many things that might make me more acceptable to those who seek acceptance if only I sacrificed my opinion. You keep yours. I'll keep mine. And next time you can pretend that you are a wiser man than to assume that I can't speak for myself.
I have to start doing some research...definitly no big names, or leeks that people spoke of....hmmmm kind of lame considering the anticipation and lack of info as of late!!!!!!
what do you all think?????
I'm glad some of you folks corrected this statement. Ornette Coleman is a GENIUS. He's a jazz legend.
Plus, talk about great collabs.....Widespread? Galactic? wheeeee.
STOP IT. So you don't like the artists? So watch someone else when they're on. Its not like you won't have plenty of other choices. So you're disappointed that this announcement didnt have a HUGE name? So wait for the next one. They can't all be The Mars Volta, The Arcade Fire, Les Claypool, etc. Some people really like the the artists that were added and thus are happy about the additions. The way I see it, there is no way possible that adding bands can HURT the lfestival, so please just chill out and wait till the next announcement. I'm sure at least a few will be more toward your liking. And I'm sure the announcements will be a bit more consistantly paced. You just need to chill out and wait for the next one. But please don't rain on others' parades.

It's really silly that people who are usually open minded about music and enjoy a wide spectrum of music would poo poo these additions. In the immortal words of Mike Muir..."Just cause you don't understand what's going on don't mean it don't make no sense and just cause you don't like it, don't mean it aint no good!"

WOW I didn't expect see Ornette Coleman being there but I didn't expect Buddy Guy there last year or Herbie in 2005. If I remember from my music classes and corect me if I'm wrong Coleman pretty much started free-form jazz. I'm not really familiar with any of the other additions but with some reseach I'll become a bit more familiar in the coming weeks just in time for some more additions.

Coleman could've been the ONLY addition and I would still be thrilled! Seeing him perform has never even seemed like a possibility before! BONNAROO: Making dreams come true!!!!!
I'm glad for these additions.. El-P is really the only one i've ever really listened to out of them.
But now i get to discover some new bands / artists instead of see another "big" band who i wouldn't really care to see again (Arcade Fire / Mars Volta) (although i really would like Les to be there... and the eels....)

I think you missed my point, which was that you DIDN'T express your opinion in your initial post. If you had said "I don't like these bands", that would be expressing your opinion, making the blanket statement, "these additions are lame" does not read the same way. I'm just giving you a suggestion as to how to better articulate yourself so as to avoid having people saying things like "f*ck you" in response to your posts. I could care less whether or not you actually like Bromberg or Coleman, but when you simply call them lame, I take issue.
I'll be the first to admit that no one in this round of additions is high on my priority list, but they are cool adds that further supplement the diverse range of music which Bonnaroo has come to bring us.

I think having an open mind about these additions would be the best approach considering what little I know of any of them. Maybe this will force me to do a little research and expose me to something I hadn't been into before.. this has to have happened some other time before in my life or I would still be listening to 80's rock... (no offense to the police)
Can I reserve my right to comment on the "lameness" or "supurbness" of this addition until after I've seen the show? or would that not be in the spirit of the board?

Ornette Coleman is one of the top five most important musicians of any genere in the last 100 years. He essentially added a new volume in the harmonic, and rhythmic dictionary. I beg everyone on this message board to see him. Its not easy to listen to, but you will be in the presence of greatness. He is, by far, the best pure musician at the festival. Please see him. Seriously. You'll be a better person.

EL-P is gonna be SICK!!!
do yourself a favor, and go get his new disc, it is absolutely NASTY!! (not to mention the guest appearances by: Cedric, Omar & Ikey, Cage, Trent Reznor, Slug & Murs, Chan of Cat Power, Daryl of Glassjaw, Aesop Rock, and most of the beats are done by Mr. Dibbs!)

Sheesh, some people are hard to please on here! People complain endlessly about not getting artist additions, and then when some come, they bitch! Come on people, just be glad that we even got some!
I can't tell you how stoked I am for Flight of the Conchords, if you guys have never heard their stuff, then you definitely gotta check em out. Their special on HBO is hysterical, I couldn't stop laughing. Seriously, they are a must see for me! And someone said they were from Australia earlier in this thread, they're actually from New Zealand, but who cares, I'm just glad they're coming!
Here's to more solid artist addition rounds such as this one!

Well played. I'm still going to, for the record, say that the addition did absolutely nothing for me - not rain for any parade, just 1/2 a penny thrown in the mix of countless comments to come for this thread.
You got to love how hurt bystanders on these boards get for a hypothetical f*** you. Loosen up people. One guy acting like a jackass illicits a jackass response in my book. It's not personal. Consider it sarcastic jawing off of opinions not a personal attack on the guy's character...even though he's probably one of those douchetards who dresses up like an english nanny to win back the affection of his estranged family

This definitely was not the list I was expecting - can't say I'm disappointed, but not ecstatic either.
David Bromberg is a pretty cool addition - if memory serves I've got an old tape of him and Jorma doing some acoustic stuff from the mid 80's possibly. I'd expect to see him show up with the Tuna, and possibly vice-versa.
Is it possible that Ornette fills this year's 'older legend' role ala Dr. John, Herbie, Doc Watson.

All I keep seeing is ppl saying, "I don't like these addtions" and other ppl being like "ahhhhh you suck for not liking these bands and expressing an opinion!" It seems to be getting out of hand here IMHO. I didn't like the additions. I was thinking that with the wait we would have more. Call me crazy, but I seem not to be the only one. But let's keep this civil.

Karma to you deadheads61088, for encouraging people to learn about this great artist.
To any people new to Coleman out there, don't get me wrong here, I'm as happy to see pop and popular bands as any red blooded consumer but a chance to see [glow=red,2,300]Ornette Coleman [/glow]passed up will be something you will regret later in life when you have learned more about music. He's old now and i have no idea what he'd be like live at any time in his career anyway but he is a HUGE piece of modern music history.
From an ontological perspective, It would not be an exaggeration to say he is one of the most important living Western musicians.
If it means anything to you, he is John Zorn's inspiration and major influence. And flying spaghetti monster knows how much music Zorn has inspired and played on and prodcued himself...he has turned on an entire generation to fusion and experimentation and free jazz and mixing of genres and so much of what happend in the 90's. Coleman is a remakable and amazing artist.
Further i rarely have heard about him touring.
I can't believe they got him for the Roo. (he did play with Jerry Garcia years ago...maybe there's a tie-in)

As soon as I have karma to give, your getting it. That was a good read, and a great insight into someone I was previously unaware of. Thank You.

Hot Damn!!! Coleman and Bromberg!! These guys are kings of music - broaden yourselves, go check them out. That's what Bonnaroo is all about. Every year I try to sample artists I've never heard live, sometimes never heard of period. Last year a younger kid sat next to us during Buddy Guy's set and after a bit he turns to his friends and says "Damn, this guy's pretty good!" Be that person.
Here's a link for some info about David Bromberg (inc. tracks from his new CD) cdbaby.com/cd/bromberg I also HIGHLY recommend listening to "Demon in Disguise". "Wanted Dead or Alive" (both CDs with members of the Dead as his backing band) and "How Late'll Ya Play 'Til?"
