I also listen to Chopin quite often. I've even learned some of his work on guitar.
Oh man, Chopin has the worst fans ever, they're sooo snoody and the way they suck on their corn cob pipes and read Hemingway makes me sick, they're sooooo full of themselves.....
(a knock on all the fan bashing in this thread, don't take it personally) ;D
Mudvayne is, without a doubt, a joke in every conceivable way! Spinal-Tap is more credible! It's as simple as that! THEY ARE A JOKE!
Can you elaborate on this please? To each their own....Im not arguing with you in any way. I am a huge Mudvanye fan.........just a huge music fan in general..except country I can't stand that, but at the same time I have to respect it as a form of music. Im just interested in your opinion if you chose to give it

i agree, i started this thread, which is a top 20 ;D, on general topics, but i have seen mudvaye and slip knot, and its all music to me .. anyone who dogs them or anyone, just doesn't get music in general .... cr*** although i think it is funny, people say, i love all music except county (and rap) ... i asked a friend of mine who he thought was the best guitarists in the world, and he said, outside of his genre it was rikkie skags.. sp .. i thought that was interesting .. cr****

one of my biggest pet peeves is when some says those exact words..."I listen to everything, exceptcountry or rap."

Are you the one that figured out that one of the songs on lateralus is structured in a fibonacci number sequence? You can't tell me that ain't sad, haha.
sorry but that is common knowledge among tool fans...i really doubt your friend discovered that....

yeah I was going to say that too, but I wanted to focus on one thing at a time lol.
"They won't break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show. It is then that we will see the rising of the moon."

Oh geez.........let me rephrase this then. I would not spend money on a concert ticket for a country act, I would not buy a country cd, I would not drive 10 hours to attend a country music festival. On the other hand, I would not just turn off a song because it was country. I would not say an entire genre, such as country, sucks. So really what I am saying is I have no real knowledge about the country genre and intend to learn minimal about it because it is not my cup of tea, yet I respect the music and the artists. So let me say I listen to most genres of music I just chose to not indulge in alot of country.

Country music rocks! Not that sh*t today. I like that fast pickin country. Sounds so similar to bluegrass. Is there a name for it? Give me Junior Brown over Garth Brooks any day!
1st Off Tool is one of the main reasons I am coming to the Roo this year. How diverse this festival has become is outstanding. For someone who is looking forward to TOOL as much as Govt Mule as Much as Ben Harper as much as the White Stripes as much as Cold War Kids. It is a justification for me that people who like bands like the Allman Brothers (wannee was outstanding this year) also listen to Tool. To have a festival that has say a band like Clutch playing alongside Andrew Bird ADDs To it..not DETRACTS from it. Noone is going to spend the kind of $$$ that the Roo calls for, jsut to see Tool...or Rage for that matter... But hell I am going to one of the Rock the Bells show in NYC just to see Rage. A rap show on an island off of Harlem that will bring heavies from the Bronx, as well as New Jersey metal heads...THAT IS FUCKING SCARY..but fun at the same time!!!!! There is nothing like this going down in manchester, Tenn. Makes for a fun show. Having all the same "kinds of bands" playing with the same vibe makes for a stale boring festival. Personally I would love Rage on the bill as well. They are a great band. As for the lug nuts who show up and ruin shows it happens at almost anything these days. I live in Boston and HATE going to shows here because of the crowds. The screaming frat boys, girls who are there just to yap and say they were there. It is disgusting. One of the worst shows I have ever been to was the Ben/Jack Johnson bill a few years back. To say I listened to ONE song all night would be an overstatement. Or worse the South Boston lug nuts who "mosh" by dropping into a 3-point stance and charging one another...great...just great.
Tool fits the Roo vibe more than the folks who are stuck in Dave Matthews land, can fathom. They will play an hour and a half and move on. You dont like them...hell there are 150 other bands to watch that weekend. OR just hide in your tent from the big bad metal boys.
its an hour and a half of your life, try something new...that is one of the things festivals offer. A chance to see different bands you wouldnt go see elsewhere on their own..or it is for me at least. A chance to see bands that have popped up on my radar that I may have passed on in a club, etc. If I end up not liking them, there are 4 other stages to choose from, at least one of which will have a band I do like on it!!!!
Try something different...you might just like it Mahalo wordo
I have to say that when I first heard that Tool was a headliner, I had to do some research because I never heard of the band (ok, I'm 45 yrs old and don't get out all that much) Anyway, when I told my friends about Tool playing, their initial reaction was to say that it might bring in the "rowdy crowd." Since then I have listened to some Tool material and it isn't my cup of tea either. I don't think Tool will do anything to the Roo vibe and while they are playing, me and my buds will either be at the Troo Lounge or resting for the late night festivities which is where the real fun begins anyway. That's at least three open spots for the rest of you to fit a bit more comfortably...
You really should check out Tool, do yourself a a favor... there is a reason why they're headlining roo... they f*cken sick

Like I've said before. Anyone who doesn't think they are worthy of Tool headlining is going to be very shocked when they see how great they are live. I was so happy when I learned they would be there. Very unexpected Bonnaroo artist, in my opinion.
I'm a gigantic tool fan. I have never moshed in my life, I dont like heavy metal, I dont get drunk and start fights for no reason. Seriously some of the post on here are discouraging and plain stereotypical. Tool is a different breed of rock, yes they have heavy riffs and they do scream in their music. At the same time its extremely melodic, deep and in some cases inspiring and spiritual.
Tool is not a heavy metal band, they are more like a modern rock symphony. Yes I am coming to see Tool, but they're not the only band. Most of the heavy metal heads jumped ship when lateralus came out and I highly doubt the retards you are speaking of would pay this type of money to come see one band especially when they are in the middle of a US tour.
Anyone who has not seen them live or really listened to them and think they're some heavy metal band, please prepare yourself to get your mind blown (without outside help) and I guarantee you will have a different perspective of them when you leave.

Don't sweat it! Lots of people were saying that Radiohead was going to ruin Bonnaroo last year! Obviously, they didn't! The vast majprity of people were blown the f*ck away by them! People fear change. People like to try and validate and rationalize their fears. It doesn't matter! If Tool is that good live, people will still be praising them this time next year....while everyone is worrying about how some other band is going to ruin Bonaroo! That's just the way it goes.

Alright, I've got a controversial opinion and I'm prepared for smiting, but here goes nothing...
I was thinking about this thread and I think that if any band is going to "ruin" Bonnaroo this year it would be the Police. Look at every other band on the lineup, they're all innovative bands on the cutting edge of today's music scene. Tool is no exception as their music constantly pushes the boundaries of metal, to the point that a lot of fans are reluctant to group them in with other more classical (and crappy) examples of the genre. Like all other innovative bands, their music appeals to a similar crowd (in many respects, though clearly not all) and I think they fit in very well with the idea of Bonnaroo. The Police, on the other hand, are an older group that, like it or not, simply can't be at the front of the crowd anymore. They attract a large (and considerably older) crowd that could conceivably be vastly different from the standard Roo crowd and who knows what that could mean for the festival as a whole.
Does this mean I think the Police are going to ruin Bonnaroo? No, I don't think any band could do that. I'm just saying, Tool isn't the biggest issue here by far. Also, I'd like to add that any comments I made about the crowd at Bonnaroo was made strictly in general as the crowd (like the music) is too diverse to describe.
I don't think its possible that any band can ruin Bonnaroo. If you added Good Charlotte and Cradle of Filth, Bonnaroo would still be Bonnaroo. I doubt many people would even watch them if there were another decent choice. The Bonnaroo spirit would carry on regardless.
However, with Tool, its not like they don't belong. Some of their songs are on the heavier side, but they are as musically innovative, thought-provoking and psychedelic as any band that has ever played the Roo.

So exactly what is a "considerably older crowd" to you? Someone who's lived more than a quarter century? I'm 35 (yes, ancient to some of you). Do you worry the Police fans will make to many ruts in the mud with our walkers? Perhaps a few grey hairs scares you?
