Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
"You see what's funny about this thread is that all Bonnaroo people pride themselves on being so open to so much music...but here everyone is being a bunch of elitists."
The bottom line is that most bands that exist SUCK. I have seen many hundreds (if not thousands) of bands in my life. I have worked on staff at three major venues for the past eight years and I can, with no elitism or snobbiness, tell everyone that the overwhelming majority of bands that exist are not very good. I have had the (mis)fortune of seeing so many medicore/terrible bands it would makes you puke. The number of REALLY good bands that can be booked in any given year is in the hundreds. Bonnaroo prides itself on booking bands that put on a good live show. In REALITY, that means that very few bands ought to be eligible to play there.
My point is saying that certain crappy bands don't belong at Bonnaroo is just realistic and shows decent taste. Some music is not good. Some bands are not good. Some are very good. The good ones belong at Roo and the bad ones don't. It doesn't make me elitist. It simply shows I have the ability to differentiate between good and bad music.
Bjork... I've never been a fan, I just don't get her "music", if you want to call it that... I think Bjork belongs at Coachella where she was this year...

Napalm Death. BTW, why's everyone come down on the Chili Peppers? Saw them here awhile back and they put on a great show.
I don't want them there because they'd most likely be headliners and that in itself would be tragic. I'd rather see Napalm Death, seriously.
In your explanation of why you don't want them there, all you really did was say you don't want them there... I'm curious as well, do you have any reasons other than you think it'd be tragic?

Their ego's would not allow them to accept anything less than a headlining spot, meaning there would be no other music while they played. There are a ton of other bands more deserving of a headlining spot than the RHCP. Headliners make a big difference in the turnout of the festival. Also, Anthony Keidis is the worst lead singer of all time. I could go on, but I think that's enough.

They started strong but have sunk into a pit of mediocrity. They bore me. "Californication".... blech
Anything after Blood Sugar Sex Magik is garbage, oh and Keidis sounds awful live.
I saw them several months ago and I gotta say that I was disappointed that Keidis didn't speak to the audience once. Flea did most of the talking at the end. I like my performers to at least acknowledge the audience and say hello or something!
if you don't want to see a band then don't watch their set...not that difficult...hopefully you can entertain yourselves with the many many wonders of roo

we understand that Sparky, this is all hypothetical.
I'd agree that overall quality has slid for the RHCP. Many times I find myself thinking "wow, another song about California. imagine that..."
However, I thought, IMHO, that they put on a good live show. I don't think they should headline Roo, but I just wondered what everyone's gripe was with them.

I think the biggest problem w/ RHCP at roo was pointed out in a previous post: Their egos and stature wouldn't allow them to be anything BUT a headliner.

I find myself thinking that too. I think that the RHCP should headline Friday night, then have TOM PETTY headline saturday night. That way, we can hear the originals played the 'right way' on Sat. Night....

Personally I love this latest album by RHCP, altho there are several tracks that I could go without... I wouldn't mind seeing them at Roo, altho I agree I would rather see someone else headline

I can understand not liking bjork, but not music? Just watched a bit of her live this year on YouTube, and I heard all the usual suspects that denote music (Rhythm, beat, melody, harmony etc.). It is strange music, but it is certainly musical.
Listen to some pieces by John Cage and Alvin Lucier, and then we can debate weather or not they qualify as music.
