I know it's unlikely and slightly unpopular to suggest, but The Cure will be playing shows in the south around the time Bonnaroo would likely take place next year...
Post by BrokenLight on Sept 17, 2007 0:27:29 GMT -5
bands that would be good at bonnaroo:
pearl jam, rem, david bowie, bob dylan, allman brothers, the dead, led zeppelin, roger waters, neil young, bruce springsteen, tom waits, eric clapton, rush, bruce hornsby, eagles, paul simon, black crowes, oasis, dmb, counting crows, blind melon, trey anastasio, ben harper, jack johnson, modest mouse, the killers, the shins, mars volta, arcade fire, david gray, the polyphonic spree, lcd soundsystem........................................................................................

Friday: The Arcade Fire with David Bowie Saturday: Pearl Jam Sunday: Dave Matthews Band
This would make me crap my pants and I think is also a very good mix of bands and styles. Arcade Fire's show at ACL last weekend was freakin insane. It earned the number two spot in my list of best shows right behind my number 1: Radiohead @ Bonnaroo 2006. Arcade fire would put on one hell of a show especially with the bowie out there with them.....

definitely think arcade fire should be there, couldnt afford acl this year but heard from everyone i know how awesome it was, definitely a great act for late night on the which stage

the killers are a guilty pleasure, i couldn't see them playing this year though.
the cure would be awesome.
i'm hoping to see some UK indie acts there, namely belle and sebastian. it would also be cool to see a libertines reunion or just the babyshambles.
umphrey's mcgee and the disco biscuits need to happen, of course.
i like the direction bonnaroo has taken, with extremely diverse lineups. i don't want to see the same type of music played all day for 4 days straight.
well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things
yeah man i agree on the diverse lineup, but i think the killers are just a bad band, i would rather have trey back again than the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz killers
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

I agree. While I am a fan of the jam bands and enjoy them alot, I think four days straight would be very repetitive.
I don't think there's a better, more diverse major music festival in the nation. Last year really did it for me for the diverse line-up: Free-jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman, Hip Hop spinner visionary DJ Shadow, 80's pop-punk greats the Police, prog-metal gods Tool, instrumental indie-jazz/rockers Tortoise, not to mention the festival goer favs like Ben Harper, Widespread, classic rockabilly Junior Brown... if you liked a certain type of music, more than likely it was at Bonnaroo. I think this year could be even better. Of course, I have no information on which to base that statement, but judging by how diverse last year was and given what possibilities there are in 08, I think it's a given.

^^^On the subject of diversity... it was late Friday night when I realized each musical act I had seen was of an entirely unique style:
Blues (James "Blood" Ulmer) Indie rock (Tortoise) Folk (Gillian Welch) Electronic (Hot Chip) Hip-Hop (The Roots) Jazz (Ravi Coltrane Quartet) Metal (Tool)
And again, that was just one day! Not that it needs to be said again, but that's what makes Bonnaroo the best.

Fri - either Radiohead, Pearl Jam, The Cure, David Bowie or REM
Sat - either Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Roger Waters, Robert Plant with or without Jimmy Page(Led Zeppelin won't happen at Bonnaroo), Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes or The Who

Latenights - either Trey Anastasio, Dave and Tim, Moby, The Killers, Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Beastie Boys, Blue Man Group, Chemical Brothers or Mars Volta

I agree with you on the diversity thing, but I'm one of those assholes that are picky about genres. Tool isn't metal at all. And there was plenty of indie rock, but Tortoise isn't really....that at all. I'd call Tortoise more a combination of experimental jazz and post-rock.
I'm a big fan of both of those, thats why I say this.

My psychic sources tell me the 3 headliners are included in this list:
Radiohead Pearl Jam Robert Plant or Led Zeppelin Trey Anastasio or Phish Yes Rage Against the Machine Beastie Boys AC/DC Prince Allman Brothers Band Bruce Springsteen
Friday - Springsteen Saturday - Radiohead (something special like two sets, playing OK Computer and the In Rainbows in entirety) Sunday - Trey and Friends
Post by BrokenLight on Oct 18, 2007 19:09:04 GMT -5
now that looks like a winner...
i mean seriously, those 3 could be it...its diverse...classic rocker, alternative icon, jamband favorite...
springsteen - never seen him, i like his music, i consider him someone i'd like to see before i die, i feel there's only a handful of classic rock artists left i want to see, new album with the e street band, makes sense to me
radiohead - would having only a year off from bonnaroo be too quick of a return? not in my mind, look at how often panic has headlined, among the many others who've played years back to back, radiohead WILL BE headlining an american festival next year, but i think they could get other offers next year too-coachella, lolla, maybe acl
trey anastasio and friends - trey would be a good sunday headliner, because of the fans of the jamband scene, because a lot of people leave early sunday, a good portion of the people at bonnaroo have seen trey play, and you get that option with him, you either leave or stay, or do whatever, i'd like to see him, i've seen him a few times, i don't have to see him, he would be a good closer, but if trey's involved i'd rather see phish close out bonnaroo
...but i still the think the best way to close out bonnaroo is if roger waters or led zeppelin headlined sunday night

Brokenlight, whether dto's three happens or not, you make a lot of sense a lot of the time, and if those important people read this, they may consider that as well. Keep posting
*edit* oh, and this would be fantastic by the way...
...but i still the think the best way to close out bonnaroo is if roger waters or led zeppelin headlined sunday night
Chuck Norris... duh, anyone who says no to him headling, prepare for a beatdown... Texas Ranger style
3 hrs of roundhouse kicks to the faceeee.
On a more serious note, to the people wishing for Pink Floyd, I can definitely see Roger W. headlining (Ive heard his shows are great so no worries) but not Pink Floyd in its entirety(sp?). I would also be game for Bowie and TMV. I saw TMV live once and it bout ripped my face off. Would love to see em in an environment like Roo.
