My bet is on... Phish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Outkast, The Flaming Lips Maybes- The Killers, REM, John Mayer, 311, maybe even Radiohead coming back and... The Allman Brothers as not headliners
Maybe it's too early to bring the White Stripes back but they are supposedly getting back into the studio in the near future and I think they could headline Friday night.

never too early for 2007's best live band!
Ditto! I so desperately want the Stripes to come back in 2009. I've been big into them since 2001, and they've been my favorite band for about six years now... and yet, I've never seen them live. It's tragic, really. For me, The White Stripes headlining would be worth at least half the price of admission.
Unfortunately, I don't see it happening for a while. If they do return in '09, I think we'll see them as either a What Stage pre-headliner, or a Which Stage latenight.
I hate to say it, but I thought the White stripes were entirely underwhelming in 07. Maybe it's just because it was a sunday show and I was worn out, but I thought the racontuers were far better at roo than the stripes...but of course having jack white at roo leads to some awesome superjam possibilities!

they headlined in 07, when i saw em and it was fucking amazing, but idiotically, they put them on which stage in stead of what, where wilco was, at the same time and everything. TWS had a much bigger crowd from all accounts and wilco wasnt even a headliner!

DMB should be back in 09. dave and friends in 04, dmb in 05. they haven't played the farm that much when you think about it - two years with a dave presence, out of a possible 7. thats a long time without dave in any form at roo.
love him, like him or hate him, the dmb has one of the most successful tours year in and year out, for the past like 10+ years, they've been compared to a modern day grateful dead, i know their music isn't like the dead and their following isn't exactly the same, but i think we can all understand why they draw that comparison a little bit.
we need them back at bonnaroo, but since leroi's passing, god rest his soul, this will not be the same band. so i'm not sure what the touring schedule will look like next year. they're taking their "sweet time" (as dave said) on the next studio album, so when summer rolls around next year, they still might be working on the album. they're trying to gather up all of the parts leroi recorded so they can use them on the next album. on weeklydavespeak, a tracklist from the new album has surfaced, but who knows about the future of this band for sure.
HEADLINERS: from the 70's - THE BOSS from the 80's - PHISH from the 90's - DMB

Fri - Queens of the Stone Age>Nine Inch Nails Fri Latenights - Black Crowes, Mars Volta, Spiritualized, Polyphonic Spree Others - Ryan Adams, John Prine, Old 97's
Sat - David Byrne>Bruce Springsteen Sat Latenights - Arcade Fire, moe/umphrey's, LCD Soundsystem, Explosions in the Sky Others - Modest Mouse, The Shins
Sun - Allman Brothers Band>Phish Others - Muse, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes
if these were the only bands playing, i'd still go...
well needless to say im not going. but i think dave will return. and thats a good thing. he knows how to put on a headliner show. no tom petty, police, tool greatest hits played directly off the album type of shit. dave, trey, warren, robert, herbie.... they should bring that shit back. but cold play or red hot chili peppers seem more likely. and im so very sick of sh!tshow reunions like the police getting mentioned for roo. id rather have bustle in the hedge row latenight then have a crap ass zeppelin reunion. or brain damaged eggmen over floyd for that matter. same with the talking heads. id rather just see adrian belew play a 3 hour making flippy floppy with umph. but if i was forced to try to accurately pick roos headliners i would go with friday night red hot chili peppers, saturday night jay z, out kast, or some such thing. (maybe that lil wayne slot) and dave on sunday. feels about right for a new roo. maybe coldplay. maybe oasis or u2 or some such garbage. korn and nin seem about right for latenights. and maybe the allmans/phil on sunday if they think they can convince any hippies to still come.
and although dave is a step up from jack johnson i still cant comprehend how the dead gets compared to this stuff..... the dead is a one of a kind thing. but if you were going to compare the scene it sure as hell dosent compare to dave and jack johnson. try phish, wsp, mule, etc...
daves touring dosent even compare to the dead. they dont play nearly as much. they mostly have a new campus to play to every show. only a couple of dedicated people on tour, not a whole community. half the people there are only there because of a chick they went with and dont care about much but getting drunk and/or laid. and they bust out pretty much the same show night after night because everyone wants to hear the hits when they over pay so much for a ticket. about the only connection to the dead and dave is that dave plays commercialized festivals that were spawned from what the dead and others were doing decades ago. on that level snoop and kanye must be like the dead too. oh well... im gonna listen to some dead, dream about the ledges, and get back to reality.... this rooality just gives me a headache.
