^^ I'm thinking a split between the Oceanic 6 on the mainland and the rest still on the island. Probably more flashbacks to earlier life and flashforwards. I was thinking it would be awesome if they started showing flashbacks to when the 6 were on the island, but showing things they didn't show us the first time around, if that makes any sense.
"...when it comes to that fantastic note where the rabbit bites its own head off, I want you to throw that f**kin radio into the tub with me." -Dr. Gonzo, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Read this on a Lost board and thought I'd share. It's about Locke's identity at the end of the last episode as Jeremy Bentham:
The Panopticon is a type of prison building designed by English philosopher Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell whether they are being watched, thereby conveying what one architect has called the "sentiment of an invisible omniscience."
The key to the Panopticon, and the key to all modern forms of surveillance, is that you don't know when you are being watched. You could be watched all the time, some of the time, or none of the time. You internalize the observation and you behave as if you were always being watched.
(This is also how most religions and Santa Claus impose discipline.)
When Ben looks up and says "I hope your happy Jacob" it is like he is talking to the person in the Panopticon, Jacob. The show has often treated the themes of observation (The Pearl, Patchy, cameras in the bear cages, etc.) and this is further evidence of the importance of this theme.
Also don't forget that Locke, Rousseau and Bentham were all concerned with social construction. It is very important that Locke's new name is a different thinker and a different way of disciplining and controlling society.
^^ thanks for that! The night after the Lost finale, I was reading a story/essay, and it mentioned Jeremy Bentham and the Panopticon prison setup (in relation to Myanmar though). I found it really interesting as well....
As for Daniel Farrady and the others on the small boat, some think they disappeared with the island, as did the freighter wreckage. I'm not sure what I think, but I don't think the writers would have spent so much time building up a character such as Farrady to have him disappear without an explanation. I think he's going to be important in some capacity later on, especially with his little notebook.
I've heard that next season will focus a lot on the Dharma Intiative and possibly some history of the island. If you think about it, each season has sort-of had a theme with it's focus and flashbacks/flashforwards: Season 1: Losties; Season 2: The Tailies; Season 3: The Others (Ben's crowd); Season 4: The Oceanic 6.
Claire is supposedly not going to be a part of season 5. She still under contract for 5 and 6, but they are going to have her on a hold. Oh, and Daniel Dae Kim is going to be a part of season 5, so those 5 seconds or so before the boat exploded, Jin jumped off. (like we couldnt figure that one out already. So Jin is alive on the island, Sun thinks he is dead. Apparently they have to go back, which im sure will happen, and there will be yet another reunion for these two. always a tearjerker

Why is it that Michael can't die?
About Claire, I halfway though she might have died when the cabin exploded also. It seems like she would have looked more injured if she was just hurt. I don't have any idea what's up with her.

interesting little video from comic-con. quality's not great and the intro is a supposed to be a kid who snuck a video camera into the dharma intiative recruitment booth, so bare with the annoying fat kid for a few seconds. no major spoilers i promise.
With Season 4 being released on DVD next week, I figured it's about time to bring back this thread!! My palms are itching, I need my LOST fix. I've started re-watching the series, just started season 1 this past weekend.
Was anyone else involved in the Dharma ARG before it got yanked a few weeks ago? I was really disappointed in that. But I'm glad they're at least giving us something with the weekly updates from Carlton and Damon.
The footage they sent out yesterday, with the sneak peek at the season premiere, was just ok. I didn't exactly get me excited about the premiere. I'm tired of Kate. She gets on my nerves. I want some more Hurley and/or John Locke!
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

pretty sure it's gonna be half and half. they said they're gonna do a different format than the flashback/flash-forward deal. so i figure it'll take place on the island and the flashes will be of the 6 trying to get back. there are only 2 seasons left so we've gotta start getting some answers about the island...right?

That's what I'm thinking, or at least hoping for! I'm very curious how the Freighties, such as Farrady and Charlotte, are involved. I think they will play a bigger role... Farrady's role will be in bringing them back to the island.
Do we think Desmond is gone forever? I really liked him.

^i think desmond and penny are in the trailer for season 5....and also ben said that all of them have to go back....so wouldn't that include desmond, even tho he's not part of the six.
all i wanna know is why'd the freakin statue have 4 toes. i've been dying to know that for two seasons. drives me fuckin nuts
I'd love to have the statue explained, it's been gnawing at me for a while too. And the polar bear in the desert. We can assume the bear has to do the time warp/traveling, but I need more details.
And Walt... I want to see more of him and know what his place in all of this is, what his special power is. Why they were "testing" him.
Me too. I liked his character a lot, second only to Hurley (who I LOVE.) But I think Charlie's storyline was complete. He did was he was supposed to do, there wouldn't have been any point to him sticking around, ya know?
I'm going to have a Lost mini-marathon this weekend.

I need to have a full on marathon just to keep up with everyone here. I remember a lot... but names just aren't my thing.
So I've started on the 2nd season.... I watched 5 episodes last night alone. I forgot how amazing the second season was, how everything was revealed to us about the Tailies and the Others. You can tell they thought everything through before they started shooting any of those episodes.
The third season, I remember how disappointed I was in most of it. The finale was awesome but the season itself was so slow. I'm not really looking forward to watching it, even though I know I have to.
i'm on my winter break. and i'm devoting the whole break to re-watching the first 4 seasons. i'm halfway thru season 1.... and i'm falling in love w/ this show all over again. i can't waitttt for season 5 to start!!!
