I'm not sure which puzzles me more, this LOST episode or the current Roo lineup.
I'm contemplating this idea of "darkness" in people. Can we assume that Sayid developed this sickness/infection BEFORE he died? (I don't think it was the spring that did it to him) If so, how does one get infected? Is it through sacrifice or something?
And, once again, I'm soooo tired of Kate. Let her die already. Better yet, make Sawyer kill her. But I was a bit proud of Jack tonight, with the swallowing the pill incident. He may have hope yet.
they way I was thinking about it was that MiB is the infection inside Sayid. MiB being the evil side of the island and Jacob being the good. At the same time, before last night's episode I thought MiB was inhabiting Locke because when he met Jacob he said that he wanted to kill him or something of the sort.
I'm also glad Juliet is dead because she's a horrible actress. Sawyer has turned into a whiner that throws a temper tantrum every once in a while. How's Claire infected and overcome with the infection when she's saving Jim? Is the Japanese guy lying to Jack? Also, Jack has gotten way too full of himself and thinks he's more badass than he actually is.
I'm thinking I'll be selling my seasons 1-5 on ebay after this season ends...
The more I think about that episode, the more disappointed I am in it. It didn't get interesting until the last 15 minutes. And I'm already bored with the alternate reality timeline.

Just finished it. I didn't think it was that great, either. I don't know, it just isn't grabbing me this season so far. The only thoughts I really have on this episode are
1) Jack getting smacked around a bit in the first five minutes. Start every episode like this and I'll watch no matter what else happens. 2) Why do these people always ask the wrong questions? Who cares what exactly is in the pill? The important thing is what happened to Sayid and what are they trying to accomplish by giving him the pill. More than half the episode was spent waiting to see if Jack would realize this. 3) While any amount of torture sucks, relative to what he's dished out in his life, or even just while on the island, Sayid has nothing to whine about. 4) Claire. Being taken over by darkness is no excuse for letting yourself go. Brush your damn hair already. 5) No Lockesque and no Ben. It's like the lineup announcement all over again.
i think the infection is the black smoke, but the only thing i am thinking is that this is like french people. remember when rousseau shot them all on the beach when she was younger saying, you're infected! it was after they went down into the temple with the black smoke.

Shitty episode. Every time they show the alternate timeline, I yell at the tv to get back to the temple. I agree w/ EAp that Sayid is infected with whatever the French crew were infected with. I was surprised that Jack ate the pill and even more surprised that Sayid said he trusted Jack enough to take the pill.
I'll watch it again cuz my I was playing with my son while watching.
Im glad to see Claire back but she def has to do something with her hair. Russeau's (sp?) hair was a lot tamer than Claire's and Claire hasn't been on the island for more than a few months.
Aside from the ash spread around the temple, wouldn't the smoke monster (mib) just tear that place up and wasn't that where the smoke monster "lived"? What the hell are the barricaded doors supposed to do?

ugh, i was wondering when claire was going to come back!!! i feel like i need to rewatch last episode. i forgot so much that happened. i think this season is kind of week though. i hope it picks up.

The article I posted on the last page made an interesting point about the alternate reality/timeline. While I don't like the AR, I can see where the producers/writers may be going with it based on the author's assessment:
We know the point is to show that the Losties' lives would have still affected each other even if they hadn't ended up on the island, but the author thinks it's also showing that they are still tied up in their personal destinies. Take Kate for instance: in the island timeline this week, she admits (to Sawyer on the dock) the reason she came back to the island was to find Claire. Based on this confession, we assume that it is Kate's destiny (or part of her destiny) to make sure Aaron and Claire stay together. This destiny is obvious in the alternate reality, especially because she makes a point to tell Claire that she should keep the baby.
I think if you take that view on it, the alternate reality may not be as boring. It will be interesting to see how this parallel will work with the other characters (specifically Locke, since he's dead).

totally forgot Rousseau said that. Nice!
ugh!!! hate when i forget stuff like this!!! i totally agree!

Personally i still think rousseau was the one who was infected, since it seems they are comparing claire and rousseau. This was a weak episode but i expected it since it was a kate ep. This week should be good with a good ole Locke/Locke-Ness Monster episode.

ok. a couple of things -the connection i see between rosseau/claire: the only women to have had babies on the island that we know of. (antichrist??) -still leaning towards seeing that whole annoying jesus/devil (aka good/evil) thing with the scales and how fake locke was talking about how he visted him when he was down and blahalblah. -the 'kid' is young jacob. i think maybe he just keeps being reborn? -the only thing i am at a loss for, is what really is the candidate? you protect the island from fake locke? if so, why would fake locke want to get off the island? -where the h e double hockey sticks is desmond???

This episode was great!
I'm wondering if terrible things will happen if fake Locke (We still don't know his name do we?) leaves the island, like evil is being unleashed. What if Jacob protects the island because he has to protect people from freeing fake Locke?

I was very happy about this episode, I think Sawyer will go back to being the bad guy just as he was in the first season, this would totally make my day. I also was thinking that the boy might be a young jacob, but that seems too easy, I dunno. I loved how MiB was yelling the same thing that Locke has said multiple times "You can't tell me what i can't do" or something. It's also very awesome that the "Locke-ness Monster" doesn't even really know what's going on, everyone's Lost.
I enjoyed this episode. We need more Locke and less Jack and Kate! I think there's nowhere else for Sawyer's character to go, he has to be a bad guy again. HIs nice-guy-in-love character wasn't cutting it.
Anyone else notice that Kate's name wasn't on the cave wall as a "candidate"?? I hope that means she is killed off soon.
For some reason, I thought the little blonde boy was Aaron. It never occurred to me that it could be a young Jacob, but maybe it is. I will have to think on this some more.

So aaron was born on the island. is it possible that we see somehow later he ends up back on the island? maybe jacob IS aaron all grown up? idk kicking some ideas around
Ok so at this point we pretty much know that Christian on the island isn't MiB, right? Hmmm I'm kinda confused.
Have we seen Christian since MiB took over Locke's body? I don't feel like we've seen him on the island in a while. I'm assuming that MiB used Christian's body until he discovered Locke's body was available.

Yeah he showed Sun and Lapidus the picture of the Losties in the past, and I think fLocke was already doing his thing. I don't know the rules just seem overly confusing and a burdensome at this point. I'm sure this will make more sense once we know things. But for now the greatest part of this show is the character driven episodes. I <3 a good character episodes, and the altLocke stuff was awesome.

I noticed Kate's name wasn't listed, too. I don't know if it means she'll be dead soon, or that she just isn't a candidate, but we can dream! I also wondered if Flocke isn't going to just kill Sawyer, if all he's trying to do is get rid of the candidates. Once again, the Losties do a lousy job of getting answers to the right questions. Sawyer asked Flocke "how are we going to get off the island" and Flocke just says "together." Well, duh, that's pretty much implied by the "we" part. But instead of asking for a real answer, Sawyer just says okay. It's a good thing none of these people are investigative journalists or homicide detectives or the like.
LOVED Ben as a middle school teacher. The alternatate story line is fine with me when it is just Ben and Locke. They could just have the two of them read the Honolulu phone book to each other and their acting chops would make it interesting.

Ok, so I just read a blog with some insights. Here's my favorite thing the author said:
"It was a pretty big surprise to see that Kate's last name was not mentioned by notLocke and Sawyer did not ask about her (also, I did not see Austen etched into the rock). Given the apparent absence of Kate, I am now assuming that the Kwon etched on there refers to Jin rather than Sun, because the rest of the Candidates are all men. [sidenote: yes, I realize that other female names are up there but they are all crossed out; my question is about women as Candidates for island leadership.]
That Ilana referred to Frank Lapidus as a Candidate is rather fascinating now, given that he was not on Flight 815...but was supposed to be (their pilot). I have a suspicion that Smokey killed pilot Seth Norris upon arrival because he thought it was going to be Frank Lapidus. If Alpert is right, and notLocke "wants everyone dead" - then he probably intends to somehow kill all of the Candidates before they have the opportunity to take over leadership of the island."
(As a sidenote, some people claim to have seen Kate's name etched in the stone, as number 108. I didn't see it but I didn't look hard for it either. I'm assuming the producers didn't intentionally show her name.)
