The island is the plug of hell
I actually cried by the end of tonight's episode (you can laugh if you want) when Hurley caught up with Richard and was speaking for Isabelle, his story made me so sad but it was amazing to finally find out about his past, how things came to be, and know that he is still on Jacobs side.

That was an amazing episode. I'm completely torn now.... is Jacob good or bad??? Part of me really wants to believe he's the bad guy in all of this. Especially when MIB said that Jacob stole his body and his humanity.... if that's the case, who's body is he using then? And where is it now that he's in Locke's body?

So many answers and so many new questions. I am also completely torn as to who is good and who is bad. I really don't think it matters. I seriously doubt that they are in hell. It just doesn't make sense that the Dharma Initiative was in hell.
Alpert is such an intriguing character, even more so now that we know his back story. He's always been my favorite because he was so mysterious. This episode def showed his acting chops. Before we got his back story, his acting was so one dimensional.

I think Jacob is good and the MIB is bad. That being said, I still like MIB better, as well as everyone on his side at the moment.
One more thing- if this show ends and John Locke is not resurrected or it turns out he wasn't special and his story actually did end with his death, I'm going to be PISSED.

It's (ironic?) that this is Stephen King's favorite TV show because the similarities between the characters of Randall Flagg and the Man In Black are suddenly running rampant. Also, from the King stories Flagg may or may not be the Demon Legion, and that also really seems to fit the Black character well now.
For all of it's ups and downs I've been hardcore loyal to Lost since day one, but last night's episode really did kick some major arse! Especially since there was none of that (so far it seems to me) pointless alternate reality crap filling up half the episode. I hope they decide to wrap up/tie that stuff into what's really going on ASAP because it was such a relief not having to watch any of that last night.
Anyways, two thumbs up to Lost from here on out me thinks!

i cant remember what was said, but did anyone else feel that when mib at the end broke the wine bottle, that he even back then knew what he was going to do in order to get off the island? just a thought that this might be a plan....LONG thought out.

I think MIB's plan been a long time in the making. But it was a matter of finding someone "corruptible" enough... and my guess is John Locke (or at least his body) fit the bill perfectly.
Remember the season 3 episode, can't remember the name, where Locke is on the commune/farm and picks up the cute cop boy. The cops picked Locke because his pysch profile said he was "amenable for coercion". Hmm.....
^^Thats always been the best evidence to me as well jhontin. thumbs up. when goku said locke was amenable for coercion it perfectly set up locke's destiny.

But to be fair, John Locke was not corrupted. He is dead. Ben killed the John Locke we know. MIB is using his image, as he has done before, to coerce the others to work for him.
And if they pull that "they are all dead" crap, I am throwing something at the plasma.
i've been watching LOST from the get go but never posted in this thread. After last night I had to see what you guys thought bc I (like most of you) thought it was a sick episode. I really think we're done with stinker episodes. Anyway I REALLY like the possibility of the series ending with Jack and Locke sitting on the beach together in place of MIB/Jacob.

Locke is dead, yes, but I still think there's a connection between his being amenable for coercion and MIB using his image/body.
I guess any of the other "candidates" could take Jacob's place but Jack and Locke have always opposed each other when it came to when to have faith and when to be skeptical. They're such opposites that I want this to happen. And for the record Jack frustrates me sometimes when he seems to give up, but I've always liked him.
I've been thinking about the "Adam and Eve" bodies that were found in the caves. They are supposedly important to the conclusion of the series, and now that we somewhat understand what the stones represent, does anyone have ideas as to who the bodies are?
One male, one female.... could they possibly be Jacob and/or MIB's parents? (I'm still under the impression they are brothers, which may not be accurate) Or are they Losties?

That seems very plausible. Do you think everyone else will be dead at that point?

that could be a good idea. MIB said he had mother issues growing up. and jacob is always saying you have a choice. maybe mib went with my mothers crazy; waahhh . jacob goes, well im gonna make the choice to not let this affect me in a bad way? idk just thinking.

Interesting idea, SB. Or maybe MIB convinced Jacob to kill their parents, which goes in line with his thinking that everyone is corruptible... he was once able to corrupt Jacob. Jacob is making up for this sin by allowing people to choose to be good or evil?
EDIT: or maybe MIB killed their parents... perhaps he was coerced by Jacob? And now he's taking it out on others by trying to corrupt them?

It really bothers me that Jacob is alll blah blah blahing all the time about people having choices, when all he ever has done is try to manipulate people into making the choices he wants them to make. His whole deal seems to be about controlling and ruining other people's lives for the sole purpose of proving MiB wrong about a philosophical issue. It just seems so petty to me, and in no way good. They apparently have access to wine on the island from the get-go, so if he's so worked up about the issue, why can't he just get drunk and argue into the wee hours about that crap, wake up with a hangover and feeling kind of silly, then go eat a big breakfast and forget about it like the rest of us? What a tool.
WTFLocke talking about having a crazy mother really made me wonder if some part of OriginalRecipeLocke isn't bubbling up in him somehow, since he had a crazy mother himself. How many crazy mothers' kids can there be on one show? It would be interesting to me to see it play out with a battle within MiB for control of himself vs. Locke's personality/spirit or whatever you want to call it.
Speaking of crazy mothers, the scene in the episode before last when Claire tried to clobber Kate was my #1 most hilarious scene ever. It probably wasn't supposed to be funny, but I laughed and laughed and laughed.
i too, loved the alpert episode. his back story was not at all what i expected. i also kinda expected him to be even older than he was.
i think maybe the island is kind of like a pandora's box? once things start leaving bad can happen.
i am also thinking that widmore is to fakelocke/MiB what alpert is to jacob. otherwise, i can't really understand why widmore is still a factor and why he wants to find the island so badly.
another interesting tidbit....i don't know if any of you other dorks watch supernatural, but it is a show on the CW about two (superhot ;D) brothers who hunt demons. the apocalypse is now upon them and the devil has taken a host body. low and behold, it is the same actor who plays our friend jacob!
