I can't figure out Widmore's interest in the island, either.
The captain of the Black Rock is named Hanso (that's his last name, I can't for the life of me think of his first name right now). He's the great-grandfather, or something like that, of the dude that runs the Hanso foundation, which funded the Dharma Initiative. And if you'll remember, we saw a scene where Widmore is at an auction house and buys the diary of the first mate of the Block Rock. My question that will never be answered: how did this diary escape the island?
That episode was great!! DESMOND!!!!!! He IS the loophole. Something about him can stop the MiB or bring Jacob back or whatever is about to happen. I'm actually starting to be intrigued by the alternate flash-sideways timeline now too. I want the end to come. Bring it on!!!
EDIT: Jack is the man. Just believe Jack. BELIEVE!!!!
ok. let it go on the record that one of my theories for the ending is that jack saves the day by getting the plane off the island and desmond sacrifices himself by 'blowing up' the island with the MiB on it....somehow relating back to all the energy pockets.
(this might be really basic, but i feel pretty good about it. haha)

I thought it was slow, too. I'm tired of the sideflash stories. They raise more questions that probably won't be answered, and other than suggesting that most Losties, but not all, had better lives in Sidewaysland, they don't seem to have a point. I also don't think the keep-the-MiB-on the island thing is really much better a way to tie it all together than they were just dreaming, they were always dead, etc. If Jacob's main purpose is to never let Smokie off the island, why keep bringing people to the island who can potentially help Smokie leave? And why keep the danger of MiB getting off the island a secret from the people expected to stop that outcome? What about Widmore? Wasn't he the one who ordered the gassing death of all those people? Now we are supposed to see him as a good guy? And why the hell would an otherwise intelligent man like Widmore hire Liz Lemon to be his muscle? WTF? Start making sense, Show!
It was nice to see Desmond again, though. And Claire got the go-ahead to kill Kate soon. Girl fight v.2!

i might have missed something, but when did this go down?
Fake Locke told Claire that he needed Kate to help convince some of the candidates to leave the island, but once he was done with her, he said "whatever happens, happens".

I think the flash sideways stuff is interesting but kind of lame. They are just showing it to make us realize that all of their lives conflict regardless if they crashed on the island or not.
I thought Alpert gave the order to gas Dharma to Ben, which would have come from Jacob. But that was so long ago, I'm probably wrong so feel free to correct me.

I thought it came from Widmore since he was the leader of the Others at that point, and thought that that was the reason Ben used to exile him, but I'm not sure. Now that you mention it, it could have come from Alpert or Jacob, too. So many bad guys, so little time!
Someone pointed out that Sun lost the ability to speak English on the Island and also can't speak it in the sideways world. If the sideways world is somehow sort of bleeding into the Island world, the sideways stories would get much more compelling to me.

Didn't Jin find out Sun knew English after they crashed on the island? Or am I mixing that up? I just assumed she was still keeping it from him in the other timeline, but I'm always getting distracted by the sparkly things and really have no idea, y'all always notice a hellu'va lot more details than I ever do!
Yes Jin knew Sun knew english. When Jin and Michael were arguing over the watch. Also just found out today it looks like everyone's favorite Daniel Faraday may return for 6.16. As well as Danielle Rousseau, and Radzinsky.

Actually scratch that guys. Dominic Monahan (Charlie), Jeremy Davies (Faraday), and Fisher Stevens (Radzinsky) are gonna be featured in this week's Desmond centric episode as well as Penny.

What I mean is, if Jin found out Sun knows english ON THE ISLAND, how do we know that Sun doesn't still know English in the "sideways" world and just isn't speaking it?
Post by viciouscircle on Apr 2, 2010 14:46:05 GMT -5
In the original timeline, Sun learned English in order to escape from Jin. In the sideways world, they aren't even married and she doesn't want to leave him, so I'm assuming she had no reason to learn English or to hide it from Jin if she had learned it.

Am I missing something?
I don't think she does because she would have spoken up when Jin got stopped at customs. In the original version, she didn't tell him she was learning English because she was learning it so that she could get away from him. In the sideways world, she doesn't want to run away from him, she wants to run away with him, so I don't think she would have let him go through as much trouble as he went through if she had the ability to stop it.

AhHa! THAT's what's been confusing me this whole time! I was under the half-baked impression that everything in sidewaysland was identical up until the crash/non-crash. I think I would have liked that storyline better and just WANTED to believe it, all evidence to the contrary be damned!
Thanks for setting me straight though, I guess I really DO gotta pay more attention?! ??? ;D
ok, so my friend kirsten had a really interesting theory......
the reason we are seeing the alternate timelines is that once one of the six has been chosen as the candidate at the end, the other ones will go back to their lives as if they were never on the island.

I generally just hear static in my head when Jack speaks, so I hadn't thought much about his promise to the Sun. But now that I have thought about it, if Jack is planning on reuniting Sun and Jin and getting them off the island as he told her, does he realize that pretty much means abandoning the Jacobians, whose plan is to blow up the plane? He doesn't know there is a sub, so if he was thinking about how to actually deliver he must see that to do so he must actively go against the Jacobians and work if not with, at least towards the same purpose as, the WTFLockers. Maybe Jack switching teams is what Lindelof meant by the conversation changing in a week. Jack and WTFLocke being on the same side would definitely mix things up.
On the other hand, I kind of think Sun is going to die in both universes and won't be getting off the island anyway. She's gutshot in Sidewaysland, and realistically she should die there. If the worlds are bleeding together as I think her language thing reflects, she would die on the island as well. Plus the way Keamy said "some people just aren't meant to be together" to Jin made me think they are not going to make it together in either universe. ::sniffle::

i love jin and sun's story. to me it is the only real 'love story' on the show. way more so than jack/kate/juliet/sawyer or charlie/claire. desmond and penny maybe. but if sun or jin really don't make it to the end i'll be pretty sad.
