I just read Doc Jensen's summary (all 11 pages) and he makes the most sense. He's on the fringes of VC's theory without quite coming out and saying it. He theorizes the two realities will merge, but both the Island person and the Alt person have to be aware and willing to merge. I would guess it's Desmond's job to get to the Island people aware and wanting to merge... I wonder if it will be the dead peoples' jobs (Charlie, Michael, etc) to get the Alt people aware and willing to merge.
I found these ratings Airline posted back a few pages. I'm surprised they rated last week's episode "Happily Ever After" so low. But it looks like this week will be another excellent Hurley-centric episode!
This should make you guys happy though; My spoiler site DarkUFO's sources grade completed episodes before they come out based off the finished scripts. These are the scores
LA X- 9.0 What Kate Does- 6.7 The Substitute- 9.1 Lighthouse- 8.8 Sundown- 8.4 Dr. Linus- 9.3 Re-con- 7.1 Ab Aeterno- 9.6!
Episodes 10-16
The Package- 8.7 Happily Ever After- 7.2 Everybody Loves Hugo- 9.1 The Last Recruit- 6.5 The Candidate- 9.3 Across the Sea- 8.8 xxx- 7.8
Judging by the titles of the episodes, it appears to me that we will know who is Jacob's successor with 2 episodes to see how it plays out. Also, who is the "Last Recruit?"

I wish it would be Hurley, because I think he is the only one of all the Losties not to have his ego totally caught up in everything he does. But I hope it isn't Hurley, because it sounds like a pretty lousy job and he deserves better. I hope it will be a total surprise, whoever it is.
I think it will be more complicated than just picking one person as Jacob's successor. I get the feeling that the ending will have more to do with the Losties getting what the ultimately want/being happy than anything else. That may mean that the Island no longer exists and/or that they've changed the past to make that happen. (This is purely speculation.... I've been avoiding spoilers... so I could be completely wrong)

JHO, no offense, but I hope you're wrong because that sounds pretty boring. We need key people to die. I don't necessarily want a happy ending. I want it to be tragic. I want the island to live on to fuck with other people. Just as long as it's not a lame ending like the Sopranos.

??? Sorry, I don't see how that would be boring. I can handle people dying (JACK!!!!) but I'm not a fan of tragic endings. These are characters that I've been invested in for 6 years. If there's not some sort of a happy ending for most of them, this entire series will have been a waste of my time.
They are gonna be faced with a decision which reality they want to live in.
That's kinda what I figured. And I'm almost certain Sayid won't make it until the end.... I mean, which reality would he choose? Neither seem like much of an option.

Hurley will take over, give Sayid his woman back, Sayid will become good, stay on the island, and eat cheezburgerz!!!1
...you know how Desmond is the secret weapon... what if Widmore brought him back to send the island in a time loop with the EM field, right as everyone is leaving the island. And then Desmond ends up pressing the button in the hatch... and it's just an endless time loop.

I don't think the Losties can just choose which reality they want to live in - the realities are dependent on each other. The no-crash reality only exists if they crashed and set off the bomb, so they can't have the no-crash world without the island world. They should be stuck in both unless they find a way entirely OUT of the current time loop they either created or helped to create, i.e. a whole new reality that isn't dependent on them ever setting foot on the island to create it. Desmond could be the key to doing that, but then what does the whole Jacob/ MiB conflict have to do with any of that? Their stupid little spat is getting on my nerves - quack them both! At any rate, I don't think the sideways world is turning out that great for anyone as time goes by - it looked pleasant at first but it seems like lately we are seeing things starting to fall apart for the Losties or not be as perfect as they seemed on the surface, and I bet we'll see more of that.
I still think it's interesting that two guys who are dead on the island and thus definitely better off in the sideways world, Charlie and Daniel, are the two who (so far) are not buying into it. It could be coincidence, but I think there's probably a meaning to and a reason for that. It's like they are, subconsciously, choosing to sacrifice themselves again, since without the sideways they were/are/will be dead. Who they are deep down didn't change with their circumstances which may be some of the point of this whole freaking series. Or not.

Do you think Desmond ran Locke over so he would remember his other island life? doesn't seem like he killed him
Desmond is the man <3 even if he is stuck in the well at the moment
OH and loved the ominous Willy Wonka quote in the previews for next week's episode
Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing, So the danger must be growing. Are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Yes, the danger must be growing, For the rowers keep on rowing, And they're certainly not showing, Any signs that they are slowing!
yes. desmond and charlie needed near death experiences to see the other reality so he plowed over locke. that is why the *BAM* LOST LOGO moment was him bugging out on the ground. locke was seeing the island he is so fond of but is now dead on. i just don't understand why it was different for hurley in that he required the kiss to see the other reality. i really enjoyed the episode i just need this to wrap up because im really still confused where this is going

I loved that, too. That song was scary in Willy Wonka, it's TERRIFYING in the Lost context.
My favorite episode of the season so far. But why would MiB throw Desmond in the well instead of just stabbing him and making sure he's dead? Should that fall have killed him? There's something freaky about that well. Or maybe Desmond is who the Jungle Boy was referring to when he told MiB "You can't kill him." ??
Did anyone think the kid in the jungle looked older than the last time we saw him? WTF is that all about?
Nice to finally find out what the whispers are. One question answered, only 4,815,162,342 to go!

Different kid If I remember! the first kid was a blonde haired boy... wait or did they also see this brown haired boy before and I'm just forgetting about it.....and there are two different mysterious kids lurking about

Only two kids so far, and you're right, the first one was blonde. I thought they looked the same just with the second one older, and with a really nasty smile. Blonde kids' hair can get darker as they get older. Great - now we don't know if it's two different kids or one kid who is aging rapidly or what it means either way. Gah!
I think Des ran over Locke to get him to the hospital where he and Jack will meet again and walk down Island memory lane together. It would be interesting if in the alt world it was Jack trying to convince Locke to believe in the island.
Another great episode. Go Desmond! It was definitely nice to find out about the whispers.... but it also made me think about the other "dead" people we've seen on the island: Yemi, Alex, etc. Are they stuck there too? Or were they actually versions of the smoke monster/MiB?
As for Desmond running down Locke, I do think it's to jolt him into remembering. Perhaps you need a life-altering experience to remember your island life? I would guess the kiss was life-altering enough for Hurley.
But I'm curious if alt reality Locke will remember his island life (before he left/died) OR if he'll tap into the conscious of MiB who is currently in his body.
When I first watched it, I thought Desmond was trying to kill Locke so that way his timeline couldn't merge. But from the look on Locke's face after being hit, it did look like he was remembering something. I can't wait for next episode. I definitely think Locke will find his way to the hospital and meet up with Jack.

I think the first kid was Jacob, and today's episode's kid was MiB.
That's my theory, too, that they are time-traveling, smaller versions of Jacob and MiB.
Thw Whispers aren't just any old dead people, they're the dead who can't move on because of bad things they've done. I don't think that would apply to Alex.
Good call on the life-altering thing. I couldn't think of why Hurley was getting his jolt so easily compared to the others, but that makes perfect sense.
MiB is not exactly in Locke's body, or actually he is but he isn't in both of Locke's bodies. Remember how Locke's body was still there on the beach after MiB took his form? Unlike Christian's body, which disappeared once MiB took his form, Locke's is still there. It's like there is a spare John Locke's body lying around for some reason. I don't think anyone ever figured out how that worked/ why that would be so.

I had not considered that. Was the blonde kid the one MIB saw when he was with Sawyer? That would explain the smile on the kids face this week. He is looking at himself as an adult.
Great episode this week. Be careful with dynamite folks!
