another interesting tidbit....i don't know if any of you other dorks watch supernatural, but it is a show on the CW about two (superhot ;D) brothers who hunt demons. the apocalypse is now upon them and the devil has taken a host body. low and behold, it is the same actor who plays our friend jacob!
- i also would like to know where Jacob/brother's "mom" came from. was it just a family line that has forever been on the island that just keep passing the immortality down?
-i also liked that they had the dark/light colored swaddling cloths. like it was said...fated from the start.
-i find it interesting we still don't know MiB's name. i feel like this will be some sort of revelation.
-i believe MiB has something to do with "badness" in the world or something. why else would he not be able to leave unless others "took" him? maybe that's why the mom wanted him to stay the whole time and just kind of went with jacob as the fall back.
-i think maybe you guys are reading too much into the dates with the idea that the bones would be dust or whatever. this is the lost island we're talking about.
a little underwhelmed by tonight's episode, though I have to say I am pleased that my prediction of Locke and Jack on the beach as the final scene is still a possibility
Did anyone else feel like the passing of the torch ceremony between Jacob and Jack was fake? I just got a weird vibe from it. On the other hand, Jacob did claim he was disappearing once the fire went out. I don't know.
Jacob really sucks at explaining stuff to the Losties. His mother told him never to go into the light cave. He never tells that to Jack. She led him to where it is and Jacob just kind of said "It's over there." I just thought it was kind of odd. I also don't get why Jacob will be gone after the fire is out. How does that work? "Mother" wasn't able to do anything like that.
Well I enjoyed it more than last week's episode... but then I think because it's a flash sideways and included Desmond. I am pretty over the actual island, and think last week's episode really did that to me.
Jacob being gone after the fire is out probably has something to do with the fact that he is already dead. How his ashes were able to manifest him back to where everyone could see him is way beyond me. i also feel like the passing of the torch thing was a gimmick. didn't jacob's mother use the wine while he just used water? after last week's episode it is apparent that jacob is not the wise knowitall that he was made out to be earlier in the series. he is weak and flawed just like the other characters in the show. i have a hard time trusting him now.
great episode in my opinion. love how everyone is coming together in the flashsideways reality.
also when kate asked "why did you cross my name off?" i really thought it would have been great if jacob said, "because you're annoying and no one likes you."
I thought last night's episode was a good build-up for the finale. I am getting a bit worried that a lot of things won't be explained. I realize we were told that early on this year, but thinking back, I just feel like so much of the things that have happened over the seasons will be inconsequential in the end.
For example, was the Dharma Initiative ever really relevant? Then why bother devoting so much time/energy to it? Maybe it was just a way to explain the "special properties" of the Island but it could have been done in a different way.
now that you guys mention it the "passing the torch" scene did seem a bit off. maybe jacob didn't have the wine he needed to truly transform jack so he was trying to give jack some confidence to take on MiB. If it was fake maybe in the end there will be a twist and they will all get to leave the island and nobody will have to take the responsibility (or maybe Locke really will destroy it). I can't wait to see what Ben does, since Locke told him he could have the island and then quickly decided to destroy it instead. I'm really not sure what Ben's motivation is right now that lead him to become so quickly evil again.
I also really hope Alpert isn't dead. It seems in the past two episodes there have been many notable events (the deaths of Sayid, Jin, Sun, Lapidus, Whidmore, Alpert?) that didn't actually hit me very hard when they happened. Maybe I just want them to be more cinematic and dramatic but it seemed silly to me to build up the Whidmore character for so long and portray him as one of the mysterious characters who may actually know what's going on and then just kill him off like that. That's why I don't think Richard is dead. I'm not even sure if the smoke monster can kill him (I think for that particular situation he just wanted him out of there) but if that was his end it was waaaay too abrupt for me.
The actor Mark Pellegrino stated that the wine doesnt matter. The guardian of the island is transferred through the incantation. So its the same regardless of liquid.
Also, great episode if this truly is the end for Richard and Jacob i wanna say Nestor Carbonell and Pellerino have been awesome for the series and I look forward to seeing them in other stuff.

Yeah, that got me a little misty eyed, too. I don't know what they're going to pull in 16 hours. All bets really are off.
