Two freaking hour recap. Jesus.
Is it just me or do all of the actors seem a bit off. I noticed it with Miles first when he was joking with Richard about joining the club. He was happy. Maybe it's just me.

I think much like the Sopranos finale this finale will be loved and hated which I think we all pretty much expected going in. For me they nailed it out of the park, did they give us all the answers land explain everything clearly no but they gave closure to all the characters in a great emotional way which to me was the most important thing.
To me this is the second best finale ive seen behind Six Feet Under which will probably never be topped. I love that the show will continue to be theorized and discussed long after its over which was always one of the best parts of the show. Im sad that its over but it was a hell of a ride.
superb. it took me a few minutes to work it all out in my head, but now that I worked it out I think it was just superb. many of the sci-fi elements weren't explained but I never thought they knew what everything meant when they wrote it anyway and frankly I was impressed at how well moments from earlier seasons tied in. I used to hate the sideways timeline but it turned out to be an awesome twist in my book. Also, some of the lines that poked fun at the show (Hurley's yoda line or other lines about it being over or coming to an end) were really entertaining. Overall though, I really liked the overall message of the series.

what more could you want from the finale? they kill the villain, the main character dies finally saving his friends, the island lives on with new protectors you didn't expect and the remaining characters get away. I also loved to see which six characters made it through. it was the 3 surviving main characters and the 3 coolest characters to join the cast later on. Is it weird that I was actually happier that Lapidus, Miles and Alpert made it than Kate, Sawyer and Claire?

I watched some of Lost..I honestly was surprised it was on as long as it was...not because it was bad, actually it was quite good...but usually, any show that requires thought on basic tv gets axed fairly quickly (Drive, Twin Peaks, Freaks and Geeks, etc. etc.) and I liked how the ending was just that...an ending...not some last episode cliff hanger.

I really don't get Jack's island injuries bleeding over into the purgatory reality.
Jacob told Widmore that he had to bring Desmond back right? So Jacob clearly had no idea what Desmond could/would do? Also I don't think Desmond understood the connection to between the realities, or he at least didn't understand that the other reality was purgatory. When Desmond pulled the plug did he expect everyone in the main reality just switch consciousness to the side-flash/purgatory reality? I'm really tired so forgive me if my confusion is really unnecessary.
Ok, I'll just say it. I thought the way it ended was lame, at least in the alt-reality portion. Sure it was cinematic and epic and all that. But it just seemed like a cheap way to end it. They're all dead? Really? That's the best they could come up with? I'm sure alot of people will be satisfied with this ending cause it brought everyone back together in the show in an emotional way. But I felt the whole church thing alt-reality timeline ending really shortchanged me. I like the way things ended on the island, for the most part. I just don't get the point of the alt-reality. Like that was what they were building towards all season? All six seasons? Really? That's the best they could do? It just doesn't seem right.
I don't think that they were all in purgatory or that they all died at the plane crash. I'm still trying to work everything out, but those are two things I know. I love that the writers didn't just spell it out for everyone. There's still some mystery.

Still wrapping my head around it, but it seems to me that the flash sideways was their purgatory, while the island was real. The when of purgatory is irrelevant according to Christian, which allows the characters who lived, Hurley, Kate, Sawyer, Ben, and other characters who may or may not be dead in 2007 timeline like Desmond, Penny, and Aaron to be in the church.
Also, if the island wasn't real then characters that weren't on the plane, Desmond, Penny, and Juliet wouldn't have been in the Church. I guess i took the exchange b/t Ben and Hurley at the church as the proof that the island was real, and Ben couldn't go in/decided it wasn't his time because he had a few wrongs to right, specifically recieving forgiveness from his/Rouseau's daughter.
What are your thoughts on the plane image at the end, was it just to show the lasting image of the plane and how it all started with the plane crash or is it showing they actually died in the plane crash and it was all just big purgatory where they had to find their peace? Had they not shown it i would be 100% confident with my theory above, but the plane image casts a little doubt.
^^ Mr. Mustard, I agree with your theory. My friend that watched it with me took the ending with the plane to mean they all died in the crash, but that's not what I think. I think what all happened on the island this season was real, and the alt reality was their "purgatory" (or whatever you call it). The stuff in the alt reality took place after everyone relevant had lived out their lives and died.
It's taken me some time to wrap my mind around it all. Last night, I wasn't sure I liked how it ended; like danbird, I was a little disappointed and felt it was a bit of a cop-out. But now that it's had some time to settle and I've worked through some of it (I was a bit confused after it all), I'm fairly content. I knew there was no way they were going to answer all of the questions and bring all of the theories full circle. I think they did the best they could without pissing off a lot of the fan base. But I also believe they didn't have this ending in mind "all along"... I think it was probably something they came up with as the seasons progressed.
However, I am very disappointed Michael and Walt were not included in the finale! I suppose they weren't "ready" (like Ben and Ana-Lucia)? But why wouldn't they even MENTION them? I'm still curious why Walt was so special in the first two seasons, and then suddenly was gone and hardly ever mentioned again.
I want to know what you guys think: what happened to Desmond, Hurley and Ben on the island? Jack died; Kate, Claire, Miles, Alpert, Sawyer and Lapidus left.... what happened to those three fellas? Are we to assume they stayed behind and guarded the island for the rest of their lives? I personally wanted to see Desmond to go back to Penny and little Charlie.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly right, Mr Mustard.

Hurley stayed behind to protect the island and asked Ben to be his Number 2 (basically his Alpert). The exchange between them in front of the church was supposed to show us that they protected the island for some time. How long isn't clear, but you have to wonder if Hurley and Ben stayed on the island for as long as Jacob and Alpert had.
I don't think the plane wreckage at the end was the Ajira plane. It definitely was the set from the pilot episode. I don't know what the significance of it was though, other than to show where it all began for sentimental reasons.

Oh, the plane wreckage after the show was over? Thought Mr Mustard was talking about the plane Jack sees at the end. Yeah, the wreckage after the show was over was Oceanic 815. I don't know that there was any real significance to it -- the episode had ended at that point.
